Defect summary

Vermeer Manufacturing Company (Vermeer) is recalling certain model year 2008-2016 Vermeer BC1000XL, 2013-2016 BC700XL, 2012-2016 BC900XL, 2009-2016 BC1200XL, 2003-2016 BC1800XL, 2005-2014 BC600XL, 2005-2016 SC802 and 2005-2013 SC602 Brush Chippers and Stump Cutters. These models have LED side markers lights that do not have reflectors built into the lenses, reducing the visibility of the vehicle. As such, these vehicles fail to comply with the requirements of the Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standard (FMVSS) number 108, " Lamps, Reflective Devices, and Associated Equipment."

Consequence

The absence of reflectors could reduce the ability for others to see the vehicle, increasing the risk of a crash.

Remedy

Vermeer will notify owners, and will supply reflective decals to be installed on the trailer sides, free of charge. The recall began on November 13, 2015. Owners may contact Vermeer customer service at 1-800-829-0051 or by email at productsafety@vermeer.com.

Notes

Owners may also contact the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration Vehicle Safety Hotline at 1-888-327-4236 (TTY 1-800-424-9153), or go to www.safercar.gov.
