NHTSA complaint 11767344Day after purchasing gv70, upon starting vehicle, the brake pedal went all the way down to the floor. After taking foot off brake and reapplying foot pressure, the pedal responded accurately and I started the car. This occurred a second time and upon the 3rd time, I contacted the dealership. The third incident occurred with 4300 miles on it. First incident under 500 and second under 750
NHTSA complaint 11767108The contact owns a 2026 Genesis GV70. The contact stated that while driving approximately 14 MPH, the automated brakes independently and violently engaged. The sudden braking caused the contact’s head to strike the driver’s side door frame, resulting in a head injury and a brief loss of consciousness. There were no warning lights illuminated prior to the failure, but the vehicle entered "Emergency Mode" during the failure. Medical attention was required, resulting in an emergency room visit. The contact stated that after the failure, the power seats became inoperable and batteries were draining abnormally. The battery failure locked the doors, and the vehicle was taken to the dealer to unlock the doors due to the failure. The vehicle was taken to an authorized dealer, and the vehicle was diagnosed with misaligned and low-facing radar sensors that were tracking the ground. The manufacturer was notified of the failure but could not assist because there were no fault codes retrieved. The failure mileage was 100.
NHTSA complaint 11765094On August 1, 2026, the right rear passenger door of our Genesis GV70 opened while we were traveling approximately 75 mph, approximately 25 minutes into our drive. We purchased the vehicle new on March 20, 2026. During the approximately 25 minutes of driving before the incident, we received no door-open or door-ajar warning. The warning first occurred when the door physically opened, providing no advance indication that the door might not be secure and no opportunity to stop before it opened. My daughter was seated beside the right rear door and was leaning against it when it opened. She had to grab the door and physically hold it shut. This created an immediate risk of serious injury to an occupant at highway speed. My safety complaint concerns both the door opening while the vehicle was moving and the timing of the door-warning system’s activation. I cannot determine whether the door was improperly latched before the incident, whether the latch failed during the drive, or whether a sensor or other component malfunctioned. What we observed is that no warning was provided during the preceding drive; the warning activated only when the door opened. We delivered the vehicle to the dealership on August 4, 2026. The dealership has retained it for investigation but has stated that it cannot duplicate the door incident. We have not been provided with an identified cause or a confirmed repair addressing the door opening and warning behavior. We have also reported recurring electronic problems and supplied the dealership with videos documenting those issues. I request that NHTSA investigate the door-latching mechanism and associated door-warning system, including whether an unsafe door condition can remain undetected or unreported until the door opens while driving.
NHTSA complaint 11760910The vehicle intermittently and unexpectedly shifts itself from Drive (D) into Park (P) while completely stopped in active traffic. When traffic moves and the accelerator is pressed, the engine revs safely in place, but the vehicle does not move because it has uncommandedly entered Park. The driver must quickly apply the brake and manually shift back into Drive to avoid being rear-ended. This has occurred on 6 separate occasions within the first two months of ownership, creating an immediate, severe collision hazard at active intersections. Dealer/Manufacturer Actions: The vehicle is currently on its 3rd service visit at Genesis of Lindon for this exact issue and has been out of service since August 10, 2026 (accounting for 11 business days on this visit alone, and over 20 calendar days total across all visits). The dealership has been unable to replicate the intermittent electronic/software fault during limited 15-mile test drives. No error codes are stored, and no dashboard warning chimes or lights appear when the uncommanded shift occurs. A corporate case has been opened with Genesis Motor America, and a formal written notice under the Utah New Motor Vehicles Warranties Act has been submitted. The vehicle is currently deemed unsafe to drive by the owner and remains at the dealership.
NHTSA complaint 11758979Component Focus: ENGINE AND ENGINE COOLING / VISIBILITY/WIPER/DEFROSTER (HVAC) Description of Safety Defect: My brand-new 2026 Genesis GV70 Turbo (under 5,000 miles) suffered a sudden, catastrophic cooling system and heater core failure while in operation. The vehicle has a severe design defect: it completely lacks a low-coolant fluid level sensor in the expansion reservoir. Because of this engineering omission, the vehicle dropped its coolant level completely below the minimum safety line and filled the enclosed passenger cabin with highly toxic, atomized ethylene glycol (antifreeze) chemical vapors through the HVAC vents without triggering a single dashboard warning light, chime, or error code. The climate control system simultaneously malfunctioned, dropping fan speeds when stopped and forcing occupants to breathe in the concentrated toxic fumes. This is a severe health and safety hazard. A driver could easily be overcome by hazardous chemical vapors or experience sudden engine failure at highway speeds because the vehicle provides zero electronic warning of a critical coolant loss. Local authorized dealerships refused to accommodate the vehicle or provide a safe loaner vehicle despite the car being completely undriveable and chemically hazardous to sit inside. The vehicle is currently disabled at a dealership
NHTSA complaint 11756637While driving at 35mph on a straight section of road the warning sounded, the display said "steering wheel locked" and I could not turn the steering wheel for about 5 seconds, then it returned to normal operation. We bought the car new in July 2025. I found numerous posts on line describing similar or worse experiences. The dealership performed tests and could not determine a cause.
NHTSA complaint 11754710The contact owns a 2026 Genesis GV70. The contact stated that while driving 14 MPH, the brakes independently engaged, causing the contact’s head to hit the driver’s side door/window area, sustaining an injury to the head. The contact lost consciousness for a brief moment. No warning light was illuminated however, the contact mentioned the vehicle engaged Emergency Mode. Neither the dealer nor an independent mechanic was contacted. There was no medical attention required. The vehicle was not yet taken to a dealer or independent mechanic to be diagnosed. The manufacturer was not notified of the failure. The approximate failure mileage was 100.
NHTSA complaint 11754073On XXX while driving at approximately 5mph in a parking lot my Genesis GV70 shifted from Drive to Park by itself causing the car and my wife and I to lurch forward and come to a stop! The car would not come out of Park and a warning came up after the fact saying to contact immediate service. My wife and I were in the car and there were no injuries. If this occurred at a higher rate of speed on a busy highway I cannot imagine what would have happened. I immediately called Genesis Road Assistance for a tow. The car was towed by flat bed to the dealer in [XXX], where I purchased the car, approximately 10 miles away where it sits today waiting for service. My wife and I are afraid to drive this car ever again as it is brand new with only 250 miles on the odometer. *No warnings of any kind prior to the incident. NHTSA complaint 11749808while driving the vehicle, the driver's seat moves to the furthest position, away from the steering wheel and pedals. The memory position or forward/back control does not work consistently to put the seat in a more comfortable seating position. This is a random occurrence that can happen several times a day everyday or once or twice every other month. It is unsafe during taking off from a light, as the seat moves back I can barely reach the accelerator. During braking, it's harder to apply pressure to the brake pedal. Also, my mirrors are harder to use because of the different seat position. I have an appointment coming up but it will have been well over a month since I told the service department. I have some video of the controls not working after the seat has moved back, but it is harder to get video while the seat is moving back and I'm driving. This has been an issue since SEP 2025 or so, but it has been happening a lot more recently this past month
NHTSA complaint 117467142026 GV70, rattle onset at exactly 50 mph. Aero-induced (not road-surface dependent) Local dealer service department confirmed the same rattle on two other 2026 GV70s on the lot.
NHTSA complaint 11737183The driver‑side display on my 2026 Genesis GV70 randomly goes black or becomes distorted. This defect is included in Recall No. 26V019. Despite this, Genesis Consumer Affairs and the dealership (Homestead Hyundai/Genesis) refuse to perform the required software update that corrects the issue, claiming the vehicle is “already updated” — a statement that directly contradicts the official Genesis documentation, which I personally obtained. Instead of applying the required software upgrade, the dealership replaced the monitor. The replacement failed in the exact same way, proving the issue is not hardware‑related. When the driver‑side display goes black, I lose critical driving information, creating a clear safety concern. They refuse to update software.
NHTSA complaint 11732547I leased a 2026 Electric GV70 from Genesis in June 2025. In January of 2026, when driving the car I got a warning sign to stop the vehicle and check the battery supply. At that point, the car went into sever power reduction and would only go 20 MPH or so. After 20-30 minutes, the car completely shut down and became inoperable. Luckily, I was near home and was able to get my car home. I had to have the vehicle towed on wheels as it was completely frozen to the dealership. They diagnosed it as a failure of the Integrated Charging Control Unit (ICCU). They replaced the ICCU but identified other issues that to this day are unresolved and my car is still in the shop. These cars were subject to a recall for ICCU failure but only to model year 2025. These ICCUs are continuing to fail on the 2026 models, and at an alarming rate. The head of service at the dealership told me they were dealing with "hundreds" of ICCU failures on Hyundai/Genesis vehicles. If I had been on a highway traveling at higher speeds and the car suddenly lost almost all power and would only drive for another few miles before completely shutting down, it would have created a dangerous situation. These cars need to be recalled - again. Hyundai/Genesis clearly dont know how to make electric cars/battery packs that work and should be held accountable. I believe they are downplaying this situation due to the prior recalls/class action lawsuits and dont want to experience further reputational damage.
NHTSA complaint 11731269When stopped at a stoplight with my foot on the brake and the transmission in drive (D), after 15-30 seconds, the transmission shifts into park and the engine starts. (the autostart was in the default position). This has occurred repeatedly. The the autostart button is pressed and the light is on, the transmission reacts normally. I have a video but it is larger than 10MB
NHTSA complaint 11728732Hyundai/Genesis 2026 GV70 2.5T Advanced. Drivers side instrument cluster goes blank/black, dangerous. Contacted Genesis Customer Care, doesn't know how to fix my model/trim. Representative, hung up on me. Dealer: Homestead Hyundai/Genesis doesn't have tools to fix the problem..
NHTSA complaint 11727873Without any warning, on March 15, 2026, I turned out of a parking lot onto a major road and I noticed it wouldn't accelerate above 20 mph, so I pulled off the road. I tried again and my vehicle still failed to accelerate. And on my third attempt, my vehicle decelerated and was about to completely stall. I managed to turn into a parking lot and avoid getting rear ended. However, this could have been a fatal event. While I was trying to accelerate, the vehicle was quiet as if the car wasn't even running. After shutting the engine off for awhile, I was able to drive the vehicle with caution. I reached out to two Genesis service departments regarding my vehicle failing to accelerate while driving and neither had heard any previous complaints, and the earliest appointment would be mid April. There was no sense of urgency, as I'm left to hesitantly drive my vehicle at the risk of it happening again and getting rear ended. And when my vehicle does go in for service, I'm weary whether the problem will be resolved properly since the service department is unaware of the issue. In addition, I have had this vehicle for only 4 months and 1 month into it, I already took it to service because of fuel odor that had not gone away since the day 1. But the service department didn't find anything wrong with the vehicle, so nothing was done to it. I also swung by another Genesis service department, in case they happened to be familiar with the cause of the odor. My vehicle still has the fuel odor and now I'm wondering if that is related to my vehicle not accelerating. I am seeking your assistance to ensure that the problems with my vehicle are confidently resolved. And I wouldn't want this to happen to anyone else. I am thankful, I was driving and not my teen.
NHTSA complaint 11726876Got a "power limited, check electrical system" warning when starting the car. Towed it to the dealership and they told me the ICCU failed and it needs to be replaced. It has been over 5 weeks and still waiting for the part to be back in stock.
NHTSA complaint 11725639I have not had no incident yet but my 2026 Genesis GV70 3.5 UNINTENDED ACCELERATION BY ITSELF. WHEN THE ENGINE IS COLD UPON STARTING THE VEHICLE ACCELERATE BY ITSELF. WHILE COASTING THE VEHCLE ACCELERATE, i ALMOST HIT THE GARAGE DOOR. A recall should be called on all 26 model GV SERIES. This should be looked at before someone gets injured. The service advisor informed me all 26 GV MODELS DOES THAT. Thank YOU FOR YOUR TIME. Mr. [XXX] INFORMATION REDACTED PURSUANT TO THE FREEDOM OF INFORMATION ACT (FOIA), 5 U.S.C. 552(B)(6)
NHTSA complaint 11724022The contact owns a 2026 Genesis GV70. The contact stated that while driving approximately 35-40 MPH after charging the vehicle, an unknown warning light was illuminated. The vehicle automatically called Genesis Connected Services, which advised the contact to tow the vehicle to the dealer for a diagnostic test. The contact was able to drive to the residence. The Mobile App displayed Diagnostic Trouble Codes: P1AA700 and P1AAF00 for the electric battery management system. The vehicle was towed to the dealer, where it was determined that the battery management system needed to be replaced. The dealer informed the contact that the repair was pending approval. The vehicle was not yet repaired. The manufacturer was not notified of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 1,889.
NHTSA complaint 11722474Tried to start the car and got a several warnings of "turn off vehicle and check EV system" and "power limited". This is similar to the ICCU failure issue other people have reported.
NHTSA complaint 11716943Technical service bulletins and other notices the manufacturer sent to dealers. A bulletin is not a recall.
