The headlight assemblies on both the right and left side have water pooling which severely dims nighttime visibility and creates an immediate risk of total headlight failure while driving at highway speeds. The Forward Collision Avoidance safety sensors have begun flashing or malfunctioning due to the excessive moisture.
NHTSA complaint 11766639The vehicle experienced a failure of the High Pressure Fuel Crossover Pipe, a safety defect subject to NHTSA Recall 26V-229 (Manufacturer Campaign 033G). While operating the vehicle over 200 miles from home, a strong odor of raw fuel was detected inside and outside the vehicle. The vehicle was immediately parked at an authorized Genesis dealership due to the risk of pressurized fuel leaking onto hot engine components and igniting an engine compartment fire. The dealership confirmed the defect and performed the recall service, completing and invoicing the repair order on August 5, 2026. However, the manufacturer failed to fulfill its statutory duty to provide a remedy without charge and within a reasonable time under 49 U.S.C. § 30120: Unreasonable Logistics Delay: Following the completed repair on August 5, 2026, the manufacturer failed to arrange flatbed transport back to the home state dealership until August 21, 2026—leaving the vehicle stranded on the out-of-state lot for 16 calendar days solely due to internal corporate logistics delays. Failure to Remedy Without Charge: The manufacturer provided no loaner vehicle. After directing the owner to secure rental transportation, the manufacturer retroactively imposed an undisclosed $60/day reimbursement cap—a limitation that does not appear anywhere in the official federal recall notice. This action shifted over $1,100 of out-of-pocket rental and carrying expenses directly onto the consumer. The replaced/inspected fuel pipe assembly was serviced and recorded by the authorized dealership under Warranty Claim Campaign 257.
NHTSA complaint 11765830The evaporator core leaks 1234yf in the cabin rendering the air conditioning useless. During times of higher humidity, the air conditioner is needed for defogging the windows of the vehicle. The inability to do so severely limits visibility.
NHTSA complaint 11764986At approximately 68k miles, I observed hesitation when pulling away from a stop in our 2023 GV80 2.5t AWD Prestige. At 71,300 miles, we observed an increasing howling noise from the rear of the vehicle, primarily at coasting, with various tones emitted during application and release of the accelerator pedal. The rear differential fluid was drained for inspection, and there were metal shavings accumulated on the drain magnet, discolored (metallic shavings) fluid, and visible shiny metal flakes in the drained fluid. The differential is close to total failure on this vehicle. Hyundai has issued a TSB, so it is known, but they are not recalling this extreme safety hazard that has been reported for several years across many owners. A quick search of various owner forums reveals this truth. Moreover, replacement differentials do not improve the issue, often having to be replaced themselves only a short time later.
NHTSA complaint 11758415I am submitting this complaint regarding the handling of a safety recall on my 2023 Genesis GV80. During an approximately seven-week service visit at an authorized Genesis dealership, I was verbally informed that the applicable safety recall had been completed. Based on my subsequent interactions, Genesis Corporate also appeared to believe the recall had been performed. However, the recall was not documented on my repair order and was ultimately completed later by a different authorized Genesis dealership (Genesis of Weatherford). I am concerned that a safety recall had been verbally represented as completed when it had not actually been performed, resulting in my vehicle being returned to me with an outstanding safety recall still open. I request that NHTSA review the handling and documentation of this recall. The attached repair orders are all from the same visit, and incorrectly showing as two visits. The vehicle was dropped off at Norm Reeves Genesis of Irving on Jun 23, and remained in their possession until the vehicle was ultimately returned to me on August 11th. The recall was not completed, nor was the principle failure (P213800) remedied. This concern is particularly troubling because my vehicle has also experienced a separate recurring safety-related propulsion defect (P2138/P213800). After yet another authorized Genesis dealer recently returned the vehicle stating it could not reproduce that fault, it recurred within approximately 24 hours and caused the vehicle to enter reduced-power/limp mode while my wife and two young daughters were merging onto a highway. While this complaint concerns the handling of the recall itself, I believe the pattern of unresolved safety-related issues and inaccurate repair completion records warrants NHTSA's review. I have a case with Genesis Motor America, Case #43043015, thoroughly documenting all of this. Genesis has offered me no goodwill or viable remedy, aside from "try taking it to another dealer."
NHTSA complaint 11758086A software defect exists which causes the vehicle to reset the electronically controlled side view mirrors such that they point downward, obscuring the driver's view along the sides of the vehicle. I have notified the Genesis dealer and Genesis USA before and neither has been able to reproduce or rectify the problem. I suspect this is a defect when the vehicle is started on an unlevel surface, as the mirrors will attempt to adjust automatically. The defect appears to be most prominent when switching user profiles and shifting into a gear before the driver profile has finished loading. This issue is also present on the 2026 Genesis GV80.
NHTSA complaint 11744519The contact owns a 2023 Genesis GV80. The contact stated that while pulling into traffic, the vehicle stalled. The accelerator was depressed, but the vehicle failed to move. There were no warning lights illuminated. The contact stated that the failure was due to NHTSA Campaign Number: 24V282000 (Fuel System, Gasoline). The contact contacted AAA, who rest drove the vehicle but eventually towed the vehicle. The vehicle was towed to the local dealer, where it was diagnosed that the fuel pump needed to be replaced. The manufacturer was contacted and provided a case. The failure mileage was approximately 6,700.
NHTSA complaint 11738023On April 20th, 2026 I called Genesis of Carmel (Address: [XXX] Phone: [XXX] ) to get a oil change. On the same day I called them I also explained that various warning lights started to appear in the dash (check high beam assist system, check driver attention system, check speed limit system). The next day on the 21st when I wen to t take the car in for service the car would not start. I had to have the car towed to the Genesis dealer listed above. I received no calls from the dealership for 2 weeks. When trying to call their phone it is very hard to get through and strangely they hang up on you once you been transferred to the service department. On May 10th I received a call back from the Genesis delership and they stated that they had out a battery in my car but that the battery is draining and they don't know why. I asked them in they provide loaners sionce ai have beeen without a car for sevral days. they expolained that they don't have any but I could call Genesis (844-340-9741) and perhaps they could help me faster. i asked why they couldn't call for me and they stated that I may have better success. I called Genesis at that phone number 844-340-9641 and again explained all of the above information. I was given a case number and provided the same day as requested the information that they are asking for. This is a copy of the email (attached) I received after that call. Please note that even in this email they are stating it will be awhile before they get back to me. I am still without a car or a call back from the dealership. NHTSA complaint 11737754On Friday, April 11, 2026 I received an alert on my vehicle that there was a possible issue with the driver's side headlamps. After checking my headlamps I discovered that the driver's side headlamps were not on. It was night time when this happened and I was very concerned for my safety and the safety of others while driving without proper lighting. The issue has been confirmed by a Genesis Service representative stating that this is a very common issue with this particular vehicle. It was relayed that moisture gets in the light assembly and shorts out the ILCU, which kills light functions. I have not had the vehicle inspected by the manufacturer, police or insurance representative. I feel that this issue, being known to be a common occurrence, should be a recall item and I am requesting a goodwill repair. I purchased this vehicle used and have had it for nine months. It was out of warranty when I purchased it so I purchased an extended warranty but unfortunately for me it does not include lighting. I am an elderly woman on a fixed income and cannot afford an expensive repair like this (approximately $2,500). I've always wanted a GV80 and was so excited when I purchased it. I am hopeful that Genesis will stand behind their product and put this item as a recall or in the very least grant a goodwill repair.
NHTSA complaint 11731618In light of the recent fatality involving an automatic folding seat in a Hyundai, we tested the automatic seat function in the Genesis 2nd row to ensure it responds appropriately. First, my daughter (weighing 165 lbs) sat in the seat without a seat belt on and activated the folding mechanism. The seat did stop once it detected her, but only after it had already pushed her into an uncomfortably bent position, which suggests the detection point may be later than ideal. We then tested the seat using a Joie Mint Latch baseless car seat with a child in it (18 lb child, and the car seat weighing approximately 9 lbs). We did not secure the lower anchors or seat belt out of caution. When we pressed the button, the seat continued folding without stopping, and we had to quickly remove the child and car seat to prevent the seat from fully collapsing onto him. Although the button could be pressed again to reverse the seat, that would not have prevented a serious injury had we not intervened immediately. This presents a significant safety concern.
NHTSA complaint 11731384On September 28, 2025, after parking in my garage on a hot day (~80°F), my Genesis GV80 automatically locked all doors while my 3-year-old child and dog were still inside. My keys were also locked in the vehicle. Neither the driver nor passenger door thumbprint sensors responded. For approximately 20 minutes, I was unable to unlock the car while my daughter was trapped inside crying and screaming. I was forced to call the police and emergency services. The situation was only resolved when I calmed my daughter enough to press the unlock button from inside, just before the ambulance arrived. Police responded to the scene and a report was made. This is the second time this defect has occurred. A nearly identical incident happened previously when my daughter was 2 years old, though I did not obtain a police report at that time. This defect presents a serious safety hazard to children and passengers, especially in warm weather when entrapment can quickly lead to heat-related injury or worse. The locking and keyless entry system (including electronic thumbprint access) failed without warning. No dashboard lights, error messages, or other warnings appeared prior to the failure. The defect is reproducible, has been reported to Genesis, and is available for inspection. INFORMATION REDACTED PURSUANT TO THE FREEDOM OF INFORMATION ACT (FOIA), 5 U.S.C. 552(B)(6)

NHTSA complaint 11690321I am the owner of a 2023 Genesis GV80 and have experienced a recurring issue with the vehicle’s windshield. I have owned the vehicle for nearly three years and, in that time, have spent more days driving with a cracked windshield than without. Even the smallest of impacts, such as minor stone chips, immediately expand into large cracks, leaving no opportunity for a standard resin repair through companies like Safelite. To date, I have gone through three new windshields, all replaced with factory OEM glass and professionally installed by a reputable auto glass repair company in Portage, Michigan that specializes in high-end vehicles. Despite this, the problem persists. This ongoing defect presents a consistent safety concern and raises serious questions about the durability and quality of the windshield. Further, Genesis community discussion boards reflect that many other owners are experiencing this exact same issue. I believe the glass to be very weak and poses a significant danger if an impact other than a small stone was present. The photos attached is of the third windshield currently on the vehicle. Replacing it would mean a fourth windshield. It currently received a stone roughly 2200 miles after the previous windshield was replaced. The current windshield has 3 cracks (all separate incidents) in it since July!!! I do not live down a dirt road. Most of the vehicle miles are done on the highway. I do not drive behind semis or put myself in situations that would increase the odds of my vehicle getting struck by a flying stone. I have paid thousands in windshield replacements and PPF film to protect my vehicle.
NHTSA complaint 11687371On [XXX], the GV80 experienced a complete electrical system failure (dashboard lights began flashing and eventually went black, display screen went black, steering wheel locked and brakes were hard to engage), all while my wife was driving on a major highway in rush hour traffic. The dealership claims this electrical system failure was caused by improper battery cable hookup, but this is incorrect. I have time stamped photographs showing a wiring harness that was already burned before any battery cables were connected. I also have documentation proving when the tow truck was dispatched to the vehicle’s location. Dealer Findings *Service advisor stated that there was improper procedure from someone hooking up cables to wrong posts and burning the wire(The issue occurred prior to any battery cables being connected ) -*Wiring harnesses are burned and damaged, creating excessive resistance *The condition is causing a dangerous buildup of heat *Multiple fuses have already blown and required replacement *The dealer explicitly advised that the vehicle is not safe to drive and could cause a fire at any moment Safety Risk This level of electrical damage is not consistent with ordinary wear or misuse. It represents a serious safety defect: • The failure rendered the vehicle completely inoperable. • The failure occurred while driving and resulted in a loss of steering and difficult braking, creating a severe risk of crash and injury. NHTSA complaint 11684295Horn failure 4 horns have failed.
NHTSA complaint 11677732The contact owns a 2023 Genesis GV80. The contact stated that while driving at an undisclosed speed with a child seated in the rear passenger’s seat, the seat belt webbing loosened from the frame of the vehicle. The vehicle was taken to a dealer and the contact was informed that the seat belt might have been cut and caused the failure. The contact disputed the claim and notified the manufacturer of the failure; however, the manufacturer sided with the dealer. The contact was not offered any additional assistance. The vehicle was not repaired. The failure mileage was approximately 49,000.
NHTSA complaint 11666053I feel there is a flaw in mechanical and electrical. There is no emergency release from the outside of vehicle to get to the battery. The battery went dead I had to crawl from the front seat.(locks were dead as battery was dead) all the way to the rear hatch to release the lever to open the hatch to get to the battery. There were no outside mechanisms to get to the battery once the battery is dead. How is this safe.
NHTSA complaint 11625735Stalls or Stops while driving. Increased RPM when gearing down and lunging with zero fuel pedal applied. Lunging/delayed forward motion from stop with acceleration. Electrical system random issues including unable to hold a charge, parasitic battery drain.
NHTSA complaint 11604707The contact owns a 2023 Genesis GV80. The contact stated that while driving at an undisclosed speed, the vehicle independently turned off with several unknown warning lights illuminated. The contact restarted the vehicle. The contact received notification of NHTSA Campaign Number: 24V282000 (Fuel System, Gasoline) however, the part to do the recall repair was not yet available. The contact stated that the manufacturer had exceeded a reasonable amount of time for the recall repair. The vehicle was taken to the dealer however, the failure could not be duplicated. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure and a case was opened. The failure mileage was approximately 15,000. VIN tool confirms parts not available.
NHTSA complaint 11585502The Adaptive Cruise Control will slow the car down or try to bring it to a stop from speed on a highway for no reason, with no other vehicle in close proximity. Sometimes it occurs on a curve when the car seems to react to a guard rail or snow bank. Very often it is on a long straight stretch of road with no one in sight. Car just aggressively decelerates. The only action is to press the accelerator or shut the cruise control off in order to overcome the problem. Clearly this puts vehicle occupants at risk because the car creates a risky driving situation on highways. Have brought it to a dealer where the service manager acknowledged that this is an issue with this vehicle that others have complained about, but Genesis has not addressed. Message boards and Genesis on-line forums are filled with similar complaints. There were no warning lamps or other indicators for the problem.
NHTSA complaint 11560941Technical service bulletins and other notices the manufacturer sent to dealers. A bulletin is not a recall; the 60 most recent are listed.
