The contact owns a 2020 Grand Design Reflection RV. The contact stated that the rear leveling jacks of the trailer were significantly close to the ground while in the retracted position. The contact stated while driving 10-15 MPH downhill, he noticed that the rear leveling jacks were touching the ground. The contact stated that he was concerned because the failure could cause him to lose control of the trailer while driving, which could lead to a crash. The dealer and the manufacturer were not notified of the failure. The RV was not diagnosed or repaired. The failure mileage was unknown.
NHTSA complaint 11578070The rear drop brackets on both sides of the back axle of my 5th wheel RV failed and broke off. The drop brackets attach the leaf springs to the RV frame. While pulling the RV, I noticed a sudden change in how the RV was pulling and it seemed to be unstable. I pulled over and while looking for a cause, I found the broken brackets. I was near a Camping World RV repair store, so I towed it there where the brackets and frame where repaired. Had this occurred at highway speeds, the axle could have become so unstable that it broke the remaining brackets which would lead to a complete loss of the axle on the highway and whatever disaster would occur after that. This definitely would have put other drivers and their families lives at stake. I researched this on the Grand Design owner forum board and found that this same problem has occurred to other RV owners. Looking at the broken bracket prior to repair, it appeared to be an inferior cast metal that didn't seem appropriate for such an important part under stress. I contacted Lippert, manufacturer of the frame, to notify them of the incident.
NHTSA complaint 11548361The right rear spring hanger broke away from frame while driving through a construction area with little to no room to maneuver.
NHTSA complaint 11474668The contact owns a 2020 Grand Design Reflection equipped with Westlake Tires, Tire Line: Super, Tire Size: ST235/80R/16 124/120L, DOT Number: JUMR2CT4718. The contact stated that all four tires failed to retain air. The contact stated that tires pressure was 55 PFI while the normal tire pressure was 85 PFI. The contact stated that the tires were the original tires. The dealer was not contacted. The tires were not replaced. The manufacturer was notified of the failure. The approximate failure mileage was 1,150.
NHTSA complaint 11457100Wanted to inform NHTSA that our 5th Wheel Camper interior wall separated from it's self which can cause slide issues in the camper. This in my opinion is a safety hazard as this is the structure of the camper and can separate at anytime which could cause slide issues while traveling on the road if there was too much weight for the frame. These camper's have two large slides on one side. The concern is too much weight causing structure issues which could break traveling down the road if it were to break loose.
