The contact owns a 2026 Harley-Davidson FLHX. The contact stated that while riding the motorcycle at approximately 20 MPH, the engine throttle suddenly revved. The contact pulled the throttle and pressed the brake to stop the motorcycle, but the motorcycle accelerated forward and crashed into the rear of the vehicle ahead. The contact was thrown from the motorcycle and landed on the curb. The Police and Emergency Services were called to the scene, and the contact was transported to the hospital nearby. The contact sustained lacerations to the head, left wrist, and left knee. The contact remained hospitalized for five days. A Police report was filed at the scene, and the motorcycle was towed away. The cause of the failure was not yet determined. The manufacturer and local dealer were notified of the crash. The contact stated that prior to the crash, the motorcycle had received a software update associated with the throttle failure. During the first failure, the clutch was applied, and the motorcycle was in neutral, then went into gear 1; the display indicated that the tires needed air and the turn signals failed to turn off. The failure mileage was 100.
