72K miles on vehicle and twice it has shutdown the transmission and shifted into neutral, both events occurred at highway speeds. I believe the transmission control module is defective and I can no longer trust this vehicle on open roads or merge lanes which leave no room for error.
NHTSA complaint 11767140The sensor is not working correctly, come on when rear seat belt is is already fastened
NHTSA complaint 11763925My 2022 Honda Passport EX-L began experiencing intermittent starting problems in July 2025, including hesitation and clicking sounds. The battery was replaced in July 2025, but the problem continued. The main safety concern involves the Idle Start Stop system. When the engine shuts off while stopped at a traffic light, releasing the brake pedal does not always cause the vehicle to restart normally. At times it struggles or fails to restart, requiring a manual restart. This can leave the vehicle unable to move in active traffic and create a collision hazard. On September 1, 2026, at 61,133 miles, an authorized Honda dealer inspected the vehicle and confirmed the concern. The technician documented that it would not start or would struggle to restart after Idle Start Stop activation, found the starter weak, and recommended replacement. I paid $200 for the diagnosis. Honda Corporate advised that another software/system update was applicable and had not yet been performed; an earlier update was reportedly performed in 2023. Honda also advised that replacement starters were backordered/out of stock. The starter was repaired by an independent shop on September 10, 2026. Honda advised that the starter was not covered because the warranty had expired. I asked whether it would have been covered if the warranty were still active, and Honda stated it would not because the condition is not a recall. No police or insurance inspection occurred. The vehicle was inspected by Honda and serviced by an independent repair facility. Repair documentation is available. No warning lamp or message was observed. I request that NHTSA investigate whether this is a safety-related defect involving the starter, Idle Start Stop system, software, electrical system, or related components. I have invoices of the cost associated with the battery replacement and stater repair.
NHTSA complaint 11763675The AD Steering Rack as noted on their service invoice. It started to get sloppy with a lot of give about 4 weeks ago. I asked my husband to drive it to verify my concerns which he did. During that time it had a mind of its own and seemed to want to steer itself. It was not on steering assistance mode nor could you activate that. At 34,000 miles, we immediately went to the nearest dealership and they verified in writing on their invoice a manufacturers defect. We had initially reported a severe condensation problem at 30,415 miles on Jan 27, which they would not address because my timeframe warranty was due to expire in 4 days and they said it would take weeks to diagnose. It is our thoughts that the condensation issue reported to them on jan 27, at 30,415 miles is related to the malfunction we experienced 4 weeks ago. No warning lamps prior were present at any time. When the dealer gave it back, it now has a new severe clunking noise when you turn the wheel. We took backroads home fearing a loss of control of the entire steering. The dealer would not honor any type of warranty until they received a code from corporate. To date, we have received nothing. Our car is grounded, we can no longer drive it and are still obligated to pay 777.00 per month to Honda Finance Corp. It was obvious that our safety and the safety of others on the road were compromised when the steering became sloppy and loose and steered by itself. This is available for inspection at any time.
NHTSA complaint 11763404The vehicle struggles to start after sitting for around an hour. A new battery has been installed after only 3.5 years and 75k miles. A new starter was installed after the same interval. Problems have not been fixed. Probably all stemming from the auto start stop system
NHTSA complaint 11758899While driving, the main dashboard instrument cluster gauge screen completely blacks out without warning, followed immediately by the center infotainment screen going completely dark. This total loss of the dashboard screen leaves me with absolutely no way to see my current vehicle speed, odometer, critical safety warning lights, or fuel level while traveling at highway speeds, creating an immediate and severe driving hazard. The center infotainment screen and rearview camera also fail to activate. These symptoms perfectly mirror the network failure described in NHTSA Recall 23V-431 (MFR Campaign ID: ZEM) for the MOST FAKRA communication cables on 2022 Honda Passports. However, when checking my 17-character VIN, the system states my vehicle is excluded from the recall registry. Because this defect causes a catastrophic loss of critical driver safety information (speedometer) and backup camera functions, this VIN exclusion needs to be investigated and expanded.
NHTSA complaint 11758513The starter motor on my 2022 Honda Passport failed, causing a complete 'no-restart' condition after entering Auto Idle-Stop mode. The vehicle previously received the mandatory PGM-FI idle-stop software update under Honda Service Bulletin 23-008, proving that the software fix does not protect the hardware from failing. The dealership diagnosed a failed starter but stated that my 2022 model is excluded from the 10-year starter warranty extension under Service Bulletin 23-009, leaving me to pay out-of-pocket for a known defect. I am filing this to support the ongoing NHTSA Engineering Analysis regarding Honda Auto Idle-Stop system failures, as the defect creates a dangerous stall risk at intersections
NHTSA complaint 11755375I own a 2022 Honda Passport . The vehicle auto idle-stop system has failed to restart at a traffic light. The vehicle shuts down and eventually restarts after several manual attempts and was able to be driven again. Typically, the vehicle stops in the middle of the road at the stop light and the engine shuts down. After a while, I was able to restart and drive without issues. In the meantime I am in a stalled vehicle in the middle of high speed traffic. The vehicle was taken to a dealer. The vehicle was diagnosed with having a starter failure and two burned out relays. I have never had a problem starting the vehicle when I begin a drive. The parts were repaired. The manufacturer was notified of the issue. The approximate failure mileage was 38,100. Failed parts were retained by the dealer.
NHTSA complaint 11748024I drive the car with the engine-idle-at-stop function disengaged. Several times when slowing down, but still moving, the car shifts into park; the AC and radio remain on. I have to press engine start to start the engine. Several other times when already stopped, such as at a red light or in traffic, waiting to make a turn, the engine shuts off and the car shifts into park. I have to press the engine start button to turn the car back on. I am getting honked and hollered at in traffic, and could easily be vulnerable to being rear-ended when my moving car suddently turns off ad stops running (winds up in Park). A non-dealer ran diagnostics and found No History of any error codes, and the system worked when they drove it. The day before the non-dealer had the car, it shut off 2 times in about 2 miles. He said the New battery is fine, the alternator is fine, and they do not know what to troubleshoot. No lights light up prior to the incidents, but they light up momentarily during it: it is the "Charging System Indicator" and the "Malfunction Indicator Lamp" that light up. The new battery is one week old and installed as per the owner's manual and was checked by a 3rd party today. These events have occurred with both the original and new batteries. All of this has been over the past few months, with most incidents - an escalation - the past couple of weeks.
NHTSA complaint 11747238The sealant on the rear of both of my roof rails are starting to peel/melt away. The roof rails came with the vehicle and was not added after purchase. I also have a video of the incident but this form will not allow me to upload it.
NHTSA complaint 11745345The contact owns a 2022 Honda Passport . The vehicle auto start stop failed when at a traffic light. The vehicle was shut down and restarted and the vehicle was able to be driven again. In another occurrence, The vehicle stopped in the middle of the road at the stop light. After awhile, the vehicle was able to restart and drive without issues. The vehicle was taken to a dealer; however the vehicle was diagnosed with having a starter failure and burned out relay. The parts were repaired. The manufacturer was notified of the issue. The approximate failure mileage was 38,100
NHTSA complaint 11742120The contact owns a 2022 Honda Passport. The contact stated that the idle stop/start feature had failed on multiple occasion while at a complete stop. The contact stated that the feature could be disabled; however, the contact would be burdened with the task of disabling the feature each time after starting the vehicle. Once the failure would occur, the vehicle would remain in neutral(N) and would not restart in neutral. The contact would be forced to place the vehicle into (P) and manually restart the engine; this had been a cause for concern as this failure would cause the contact to hold up traffic. The contact also express concern that the failure may lead to an accident. The vehicle had been taken to the dealer on multiple occasions to address the issue where he had been informed to turn off the feature, replace the battery, and have a battery reset performed on the vehicle. The contact had performed all three recommended remedies; however, the failure had persisted. The manufacturer had yet to be notified of the failure. The vehicle was not repaired. The failure mileage was approximately 90,000.
NHTSA complaint 11738964The contact owns a 2022 Honda Passport. The contact stated while operating the vehicle stated that the vehicle has stiff steering and a odd noise coming from the steering wheel. The contact referenced NHTSA Campaign Number: 24V184000 (Steering) however, the VIN was not included in the recall repair. The dealer was notified of the failure. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was not notified of the failure. The failure mileage was 112,000.
NHTSA complaint 11734886My sunroof glass randomly exploded! Yes, my safety and others safety was threatened! Glass shards would have hit my face had my sunshade not been closed! Glass shards flew off the back of my vehicles and there was another vehicle driving in the same lane behind me. The road was smooth and there were no potholes present. My car was driving smoothly, no warnings of any sort alerted me to any issues. As I was driving, I suddenly heard a VERY LOUD “pow!” kind of noise from the top of my car. It was incredibly loud, and sounded like a gunshot or a firework on the roof of my vehicle. I was able to pull over to inspect my car, and I immediately saw the damage to my sunroof. The rest of my car stayed perfectly intact, and there was no rock present, no foreign debris, and no mark on my interior sliding sunshade (indicating nothing hit my sunroof glass to shatter it). My interior sliding sunshade was closed at the time this incident occurred, as I am positive I would have experienced an injury to my face had it been open! The explosion from my glass was violent, as it did not simply crack my glass, but instead it blew up leaving shards of glass on top of the interior sliding sunshade – those shards would have hit my face and body when the explosion happened. I have photos of the damage and I also have two dash cams in my car – one of the cams records video footage of the front view of my vehicle, and the other camera records video footage of the back view from my vehicle. The video footage I have recorded also supports my claim fully, and demonstrates that no objects were “kicked up” and hit my car, and the back view shows the shards of glass flying off of my car during the explosion. You can also hear the loud “POP!” in the video footage I have, and it is very clear when this happened. A certified Honda dealership has my car at their shop right now. Honda Corporate has been slow to respond and they are falsely claiming they have never heard of this happening!
NHTSA complaint 11733129The contact owns a 2022 Honda Passport. The contact stated that upon depressing the brake pedal, the Collision Mitigation System, Power Steering System, Road Departure Mitigation System, Adaptive Cruise Control, and Hill Start Assist messages were displayed. The vehicle was taken to a dealer, and the contact was informed that the vehicle was not included in NHTSA Campaign Number: 23V458000 (Service Brakes, Hydraulic). The contact was provided an estimate for a diagnostic, but declined. The manufacturer was notified of the failure, and the contact was given the same information as the dealer. The vehicle was not repaired. The failure mileage was 39,300.
NHTSA complaint 11732506The infotainment screen on my 2022 Honda Passport is constantly blacking out or freezing up. In addition to no use of radio or GPS when this happens, there is also no backup camera or rear cross traffic warning. This creates a safety issue. The vehicle has been to the dealer twice. While they can see the problem, they indicated there's no fault code, therefore they don't know know how to proceed with a repair. I opened a case with Honda Customer Service but was told they couldn't do anything and I need to talk to the service manager at the dealer, or just go to a different dealer or Honda Service Center.
NHTSA complaint 11724601On numerous occasions while driving on the highway with no other vehicles in the vicinity of my vehicle the forward collision active braking activates aggressively and brakes for no reason this is concerning at 70 mph with a vehicle behind that may be following to close on a slippery road surface. vehicle is available for inspection any time upon request. vehicle has not been inspected by any one yet. no warning lamps other than the one associated with forward collision braking.
NHTSA complaint 117234972022 Passport was driven from Indianapolis IN to Naperville IL on the evening of Jan 24th experiencing snowy and freezing conditions. Car was left overnight outside and would not start on the morning of the 25th. Warning lights displayed were battery and flashing engine light, one click on start up but no other noises. On the Morning of the 26ths AAA provided services to try and jump the battery and eventually had to tow vehicle to Valley Honda Aurora IL for service. Vehicle under went troubleshooting on the Morning of the 28th after being left outside. Vehicle still refused to start Tech suggested replacement of starter or IAW Honda Service Bulletin 23-010 and 23-023 letting vehicle starter thaw. Vehicle was brough inside into a warm environment overnight and started on Thursday the 29th. There were no prior indicators of issues until the Morning of the 25th
NHTSA complaint 11714648The starter failed to start the car due to what is described as a "frozen starter". A TSB exists for Honda where the problem is acknowledged, TSB 23-023. This left me stranded in the cold on 1/26 and 1/27. Many other drivers of similar vehicles have reported this problem in the past week. The problem is uniquely and disconcertingly dangerous as the problem impacts drivers who are in freezing conditions which can be inherently life-threatening if a known issue exists with a "frozen starter", this problem cannot be rectified by vehicle maintenance, for example, having a new battery or jump starter does not fix the problem. This problem strikes drivers in freezing and life-threatening conditions and is inherently unsafe and hazardous. The vehicle has not been inspected as Honda would not honor rectifying this issue for an "out of warranty" vehicle despite widespread concern. There were no warnings or messages prior to the problem. They first appeared in freezing cold after a precipitation event.
NHTSA complaint 11714411Our vehicle experienced total transmission failure with no warning while I was driving on a narrow country road. The car shifted into neutral, and I was unable to go anywhere, so I sat in the middle of the road with hazard lights on in a state of panic. We had the car towed to a nearby Honda dealership and were informed of the transmission failure, which was identified through a diagnostic test. Codes that failed were listed as: P0730; P0700; P07A6; P07A8; P07A4. I have owned the car for one year and three months (purchased October 2024 for $34,000). I am being told it is just past the power train warranty, and Honda is not offering any assistance in covering the repair cost - $10,000.
NHTSA complaint 11713610Technical service bulletins and other notices the manufacturer sent to dealers. A bulletin is not a recall; the 60 most recent are listed.
