I am filing this complaint regarding my 2022 Jeep Grand Cherokee and safety recall 89D (NHTSA Campaign 26V562000). My vehicle is currently experiencing abnormal driving behavior that has caused me to have a legitimate safety concern regarding the vehicle’s suspension. The vehicle does not drive normally, and I am concerned that the condition may be related to the component addressed by recall 89D. I have contacted both the dealership and the manufacturer’s recall/customer assistance department multiple times seeking to have the vehicle properly diagnosed and to determine whether it is safe to operate while the recall remedy remains unavailable. Initially, I was advised that I could take the vehicle to a Jeep dealership to have the condition diagnosed and that the recall department could provide rental assistance because the vehicle was not driving normally. I subsequently received different information stating that rental expenses could only potentially be reimbursed if the vehicle was taken to a Jeep dealership for an alternative repair while waiting for the recall remedy. I am concerned because I have received inconsistent information regarding: 1. Whether the vehicle can or should be driven while experiencing the reported condition; 2. Whether the dealership will diagnose the vehicle to determine whether the current condition is related to recall 89D; 3. What interim repair or inspection is appropriate while the official recall remedy is unavailable; 4. Whether transportation or rental assistance is available while the safety concern is being investigated; and 5. What expenses, if any, will be reimbursed if an alternative repair is necessary before the recall remedy becomes available. I understand that an official recall remedy may not yet be available. My concern is not simply that the recall repair cannot currently be completed. My concern is that the vehicle is actively exhibiting abnormal behavior involving a system that is the subject of a safety recal
NHTSA complaint 11768089Pedestrian Alert/Forward Collision light warning always on after over the air update. Manufacturer removed option in settings to disable this feature and warning light has been on since this over the air update. Dealer has attempted repair however fix only works for a few weeks and then reverts. Over the air update also disabled paddle shifters, caused language on vehicle to switch to italian, and changed units of measure for speed and tire pressure. This is a blatant safety issue as it is not apparent to driver that speed settings have changed. The inoperable forward Collision system risks the public and passengers safety. The fix provided by manufacturer is temporary and does not resolve the issue.
NHTSA complaint 11767536Car is rocking and popping in rear only. Jeep requests I drive car to dealership and pay for diagnostic of vehicle although displaying all signs of recall.
NHTSA complaint 11764690The contact owns a 2022 Jeep Grand Cherokee. The contact stated while driving at an undisclosed speed, another vehicle struck the rear of the vehicle at approximately 70 MPH. The auxiliary warning lights were illuminated. The contact stated that none of the air bags were deployed during the crash. The contact expected the air bags to deploy and was concerned that they failed to do so. The contact and his daughter both sustained injuries as a result of the crash. The contact reported neck whiplash, cervical and lumbar neuropathy, sciatica, herniated discs at L4-L5, drop foot, several contusions, rib injuries from the seatbelt, and injuries to the left hand, thumb, and wrist after the contact's daughter's hand was forced into the dashboard. The contact also received 14 stitches near the left eye and was placed in a wheelchair. The contact stated that surgery was recommended for his neck and lower back and that he and his daughter received physical therapy and chiropractic treatment. Following the crash, the contact also experienced additional vehicle issues, including the rearview camera that was intermittently darkened, an auxiliary battery that was not functioning, and an abnormal smell resembling gear oil and electrical burning. The vehicle was taken to a dealer and the vehicle was diagnosed however, the diagnosis was unknown. The failure mileage was approximately 39,800.
NHTSA complaint 11763483Hard shifting occurred. Then service 4WD light came on dash. After an oil change, the light went away, but the hard shifting is still there. An independent dealer replaced my transfer case as well as completed an update to the transmission. The hard shifting came back even worse, with almost every gear. Took to a Dodge/Ram/Jeep dealership who completed a TSB 21-015-23. Their next recommendation is to replace the valve body and if that doesn’t fix it, then replace the transmission. They stated this recommendation came directly from Stillentis. Since this is a known issue from Stillantis, they should be issuing a recall immediately. Failure of the transmission can cause sudden power loss, unpredictable acceleration, stalling, and fire hazards. These things can in turn cause accidents and safety hazards.
NHTSA complaint 11763220Passenger seat lumbar air bag randomly over inflates and doesn't deflate to the point where the seat in not usable. This caused pieces in the rear of the passenger seat to bow out and push the plastic cover off, touching rear seat which holds a car seat for a 2 year old. This puts the passenger and rear seat passenger at risk along with possibly all passengers. This has been brought to a Jeep dealership and they left it inflated for now. They gave an invoice for 2 parts, the module and back cover. I was told it shouldn't inflate more and when I asked, was told it probably won't explode but I may want to move the car seat over.
NHTSA complaint 11757106Forward Collision Warning has been disabled since a forced OTA software update in August of 2024. Jeep has issued a STAR report to their dealers (S248A000013). Jeep acknowledges it is an issue, but fails to cover the remedy. Dealer wants $200+ to diagnose plus the cost of the software refresh. The system forces you to take the software update, removes a key safety feature, and then Jeep wants you to pay to restore it. This is a major issue with this model covered in the forums and should be addressed via recall. [XXX] [XXX] INFORMATION REDACTED PURSUANT TO THE FREEDOM OF INFORMATION ACT (FOIA), 5 U.S.C. 552(B)(6)
NHTSA complaint 11754910The initial safety issue began with the rear-view camera going blank and the Uconnect 5 screen freezing while the vehicle was operating in reverse. My vehicle's service record indicates that Safety Recall 24V-436 / FCA Campaign 79B was marked as "Completed" in the FCA system on June 19, 2024—even though the official recall was not initiated until around June 25, 2024, and no physical software update was performed at that time. To resolve the recall, I took my 2022 Jeep Grand Cherokee L to Performance Chrysler Dodge Jeep Ram in Delaware, Ohio, where technicians updated the software to version FCA-MY24.U33.43-PROD. Immediately following this dealer update, several core vehicle and safety functions failed: Forward Collision Warning (FCW): The FCW system automatically turned off, and the option to re-enable it completely disappeared from the vehicle settings menu. Vehicle Safety & Operational Controls: Automatic speed-sensitive door locking and paddle shifter functionality were completely disabled. I returned the vehicle to the dealer, where technicians reflashed the software to restore the user configuration options and re-enable FCW. However, the Uconnect system remains dangerously buggy: Active Safety Alerts: The amber FCW OFF light illuminates continuously and gets stuck on. While ADAS features appear partially operational, the constant amber warning obscures real-time system failure notifications. Backup Camera & System Latency: The Uconnect system routinely freezes, introducing a dangerous delay in the rear-view camera feed during reversing maneuvers. System Instability: The Uconnect software randomly resets to the Italian language, resets rear-camera display settings, disables automatic door locking, disables paddle shifters, and causes seat auto-adjustment malfunctions. Stellantis has since issued TSB 08-221-26 (Software Version U41.10), which explicitly acknowledges that these exact software bugs—including the persistent FCW OFF light, screen freezes,
NHTSA complaint 11754092The dealership performed the backup camera safety recall (Jeep Recall 66B / NHTSA Campaign 24V436000), but the safety defect returned. The dealership is now refusing to re-repair the vehicle, falsely claiming the recall warranty has expired. The backup camera screen is blue and says camera is not available.
NHTSA complaint 11753110This model of Jeep has a documented history of having software problems that occur resulting in huge safety issues. I am filing this report because Jeep has not successfully solved this issue leading to regular ongoing safety concerns. Jeep themselves have issued several STAR reports on this, and a simple internet search will show thousands upon thousands of posts of owners with recurring issues. The specific safety concerns regarding seat positioning while moving, language change of instrumentation and critical alarms, metric changes to critical items like speed, and failure of front collision sensors. The issue begins with the driver seat changing its position while driving. While driving the seat will suddenly recline almost to a lay down position which is a safety risk. After some time fighting this, the car will eventually have a computer issue where the language changes to Italian, and cause the front collision sensors to be disabled. There is actually no issue with the sensors, it’s a software glitch that causes the sensors to be deactivated. In order to fix the issue, the car has to be taken to the dealership for several software updates and reconfiguration, resulting in cost to owners. Extended warranties do not cover software. The issue will then recur, sometimes within as little as a week, others after a few months. Researching forums, it appears this may be related to some OTA software update, but that hasn’t been confirmed as far as I can tell. This is a safety concern. Seats should not adjust on their own without driver controls being accessed, and collision sensors shouldn’t deactivate because of a software glitch.
NHTSA complaint 11752113Randomly, and without warning, the instruments, gauges, and displays will switch into a language I do not speak or understand (Italian). Coinciding with the switch to Italian language, cluster and radio display settings revert back to default settings, auto door locks and paddle shifter becomes inoperative (with no menu to enable), pedestrian emergency brake (peb) lamp or forward collision warning (fcw) lamp turns on with no way to disable, units of measurement including speed, temperature, etc. all change, and many other random settings change as well. ***This is clearly a dangerous situation because of all the functions and gauges that change, and the fact it is difficult if not impossible to recover from this due to the language of the setting menus, and the complexity of discovering and navigating through all these changes. I have taken it to the dealer twice, and they say there is nothing they can do and to wait for a possible software update, but none has come and it has been over a year. When this happens, even if one is able to wade through all the settings menus and change setting back, some items cannot be reset (like the FCA off lamp). According to various Jeep owner forums, some dealers have been able to reset something and temporarily correct the issue, but they charge for this service, and the issue returns randomly again. Here is an example forum discussion, indicating many if not all vehicles are affected: [XXX] Many people on the forum believe this issue did not start until a software update a year or so ago. This is a well known and widespread problem, and there is even a DOT Bulletin on the issue: dot.report Bulletins Because this is dangerous (for settings/gauges/units to no longer be useful while driving), and it occurs randomly, I strongly believe this issue should be a manufacturer recall. I am available for any needs. INFORMATION REDACTED PURSUANT TO THE FREEDOM OF INFORMATION ACT (FOIA), 5 U.S.C. 552(B)(6)
NHTSA complaint 11748545The original engine mounts are causing the engine to have a loud knocking sound at idle. Jeep is aware of the bad engine mounts and issued technical service bulletin #09-015-22. The CDJR dealer confirmed the engine mounts need to be replaced and it is a known problem. The 3 year/36,000 mile warranty just expired and they refused to replace the mounts under the powertrain warranty. Bad engine mounts are a safety concern because they allow excessive engine movement, which can damage steering, drivetrain, fuel, cooling, and electrical components, potentially leading to loss of vehicle control or a breakdown. If a mount fails completely, the engine can shift enough to affect shifting, steering, or throttle operation, increasing the risk of a crash.
NHTSA complaint 11748317Retractable seatbelt is no longer working. The vehicle is currently at the dealership for repairs. There is only 32,000 miles on this vehicle. The seatbelt no longer retracts; therefore, if an accident occurred a personal injury would very likely result. Yes, the dealership has confirmed the seatbelt is no longer retracting. There haven't been any warning lights or messages. An extended warranty has been bought through Korner Stone. Korner Stone will not cover the repair/replacement of the unit even though seatbelts and air bags are safety components of the vehicle, and the warranty is supposed to be bumper to bumper. (The clause is written in their fine print of their contract. If the unit fails, they are not responsible.)
NHTSA complaint 11746420My 4WD service light keep coming on
NHTSA complaint 11741393There was a previous recall for camera system that was fixed using a OTA over the air update per JEEP. This update introduced new problems It disabled the forward collision detection and disabled paddle shifting and other safety features which should also be issued as a RECALL because the dealer is not reputable to this on their own. The fix that they did requires customer to come in and have more work done at their expense and they pretend they didn't cause it but clearly this is a major problem across their whole line of Cars.
NHTSA complaint 11741257My 2022 Jeep Grand Cherokee L experienced a sudden, simultaneous failure of multiple electrical, safety, and driver-assistance systems. Without warning, the instrument cluster illuminated a yellow warning light indicating that the Forward Collision Warning (FCW) system was disabled and unavailable. Concurrently, the steering wheel paddle shifters completely stopped functioning, and the vehicle randomly reset its primary language setting to Italian reverted its system units to Metric and Celsius. Furthermore, critical user customization options in the Uconnect 5 infotainment system—specifically the auto-folding side mirrors option, automatic door locking preferences, and passenger seat controls—completely disappeared from the settings menus.
NHTSA complaint 11739891There is an issue with my infotainment screen that has been occurring for the past 3 years. There seems to be something wrong with the software. My screen goes completely black a few times a day while driving and then comes back on or it freezes. Automatic updates when the truck does a software update, it never corrects this issue. The Cherokee L was not included on the recall list but there is definitely a problem.
NHTSA complaint 11737626Issue regarding Service 4wd light coming on. This is a known issue and is there is a Technical Service Bulletin but no recall. This is a safety hazard and needs to be addressed as a recall. This is a manufacturer issue. It causes the 4wd system to not work properly and driving in rain snow is a safety hazard.
NHTSA complaint 11737593There is a continual problem with this car. Randomly, about every 1-2 weeks, my entire infotainment center, customer settings, and seat preferences will reset to Italian and the metric system. When this happens, the front collision warning system turns off. The radio screen also begins to flash on and off, where I cannot use the backup camera and audio cuts out. I have had it to my local Jeep dealership about 6 times now, and they are able to reset the system but the problem comes back. I had it there earlier in the week and the technician told me that there is no permanent fix, and that I will be coming back routinely because I am not the only one with this issue.
NHTSA complaint 11734403What component or system failed or malfunctioned, and is it available for inspection upon request? -Forward collision system light on dash is illuminated, automatic locks do not engage after vehicle is in motion, paddle shifters do not work. All displays switched to Italian & from standard measurements to metric How was your safety or the safety of others put at risk? -Forward collision sensors appear to not work as well as doors do not automatically lock as they should. Has the problem been reproduced or confirmed by a dealer or independent service center? -Yes, my dealership is aware of this issue and referenced service bulletin S2108000249, this did "fix" these issues temporarily, however a week later this issues happened again. Has the vehicle or component been inspected by the manufacturer, police, insurance representatives or others? - No Were there any warning lamps, messages or other symptoms of the problem prior to the failure, and when did they first appear? -No
NHTSA complaint 11734348Technical service bulletins and other notices the manufacturer sent to dealers. A bulletin is not a recall; the 60 most recent are listed.
