I had my vehicle checked for oil consumption for it failed the test. After Kia approved an engine swap an engine light came up with faulty O2 sensor. Not just one but both O2 sensors. Replaced both sensors but the problem persist. Kia changed the engine harness with the assumption that the technician damaged the harness while installing the engine. My vehicle has been at the dealership for four months and I honestly don’t know what to do.
NHTSA complaint 11766244The AWD coupler is shuttering and making the vehicle shake on turns . It is a common issue with KiA awd systems which is why I don’t understand why it’s not a recall! It puts people’s life’s at risk because upon accelerating at an intersection the binding does not let the full acceleration of the vehicle to take place . I have not yet got it serviced because it’s a pricey job . I just bought the vehicle last month and the warranty expired at the beginning of this month ! How do I purchase a vehicle and expected to to pay for a repair that is known to KIA AWD SYSTEMS !!! My vehicle only has 40k miles on it and from horror stories I hear it goes out more then one time .
NHTSA complaint 11766138Appears to be a parasitic drain on batteries. I just replace the 3rd battery yesterday. Kia does not address the underlying cause of battery drain.
NHTSA complaint 11764774One year ago, my headlight warning came on while driving back to [XXX] from [XXX]. I pulled over and tried wiggling my connector to my light which stopped the waring. I thought maybe just the bad roads had caused the connection to come apart. Throughout the year, the problem has happened. About 4 weeks ago the warning came back on but his time a triangle warning also appeared. I took it into the Lawton Kia dealership to be checked out. I was told it was due to my moister bearing being wet and needed to be changes with my head lights. I approved the work and this was done a week later when the parts were in. With in the week, the light came back on. I took it back in and was told that the headlight along with the pigtail was burnt and both needed to be replaced. the work in going to be over 1300 dollars. My warrant has expired and my extended warranty does not cover replacement of the head lights. At the time this started, my car was still in warranty, and I should have taken it in by I really thought it was loss connections due to the bad roads in [XXX]. I had not driven my vehicle at night since replacing the headlight bulb but if the light burned the pig tail, then this is a defect in the manufacture of this vehicle. I have filled a case Study with Kia but they do not willing to do anything about this because there is not a recall at this time for the headlights. My case is # XXX. NHTSA complaint 11764191Sunroof / moonroof failing close. Driving on roads / high speeds exposed to the elements for a moonroof that will not close leaving me and my family in danger when its our only vehicle and means of transportation. Has the problem been reproduced or confirmed by a dealer or independent service center? - Yes Has the vehicle or component been inspected by the manufacturer, police, insurance representatives or others? - No Were there any warning lamps, messages or other symptoms of the problem prior to the failure, and when did they first appear? - No
NHTSA complaint 11762077Our 2022 Telluride is binding when turning at low speed or accelerating on the highway we took it to our trusted mechanic, he believes it to be the all-wheel-drive coupling unit and that is a common failure point with these vehicles. I called our local Kia dealership and stated that the mechanic told me they need to check the firmware for the ECU to see if that may fix the issue. The dealership stated that they were just gonna have to replace the all-wheel-drive coupling unit instead of diagnosing the problem. After reading several reports from this government agency and other forms, etc. it sounds like the all-wheel-drive coupling unit is a common failure point and needs to be addressed as a recall by Kia.
NHTSA complaint 11759775The contact owns a 2022 Kia Telluride. The contact stated that on several occasions while driving at various speeds and while stopped, the check engine warning light illuminated, and the vehicle stalled. The vehicle was restarted after each failure. The vehicle was taken to a dealer on several occasions, but the failure was not duplicated. The vehicle was then taken to a dealer where it was diagnosed and determined that the ECM software needed to be updated. The vehicle was repaired, but the failure reoccurred two days later. The vehicle was taken back to the same dealer where it was diagnosed that the ECVVT motor was stuck and needed to be repaired. The vehicle was repaired, but the failure reoccurred the following day with the battery warning light illuminated. The contact stated that while driving with a child inside the vehicle, the battery, power steering, Auto HOLD, Forward Collision Avoidance, ABS, traction control, and the master warning lights were illuminated. The contact stated that the "Check Blind Spot Collision System", "Check TPMS," "Check Lane Departure Warning System", and "Check ESC", messages were displayed. The contact stated that the steering wheel locked up. While the brake pedal was depressed, the vehicle did not slow down as intended, causing the contact to temporarily lose control of the vehicle. The vehicle was coasted into a gas station parking lot, and the EPB, brake, seat belt, and collision warning lights were illuminated before the vehicle stalled. The vehicle was then towed to the same dealer where it was diagnosed and determined that the alternator failed and drained the battery, and both parts needed to be replaced. The vehicle has not been repaired. The manufacturer was notified of the failure, and a complaint was filed. The failure mileage was approximately 82,093.
NHTSA complaint 11758257Car has been degrading and fully depleting batteries, one per year, since car was purchased new. Some undiagnosed electrical drain is resulting the car not starting, either at home or at a stoplight when 'auto-stop' causes the car to stop and restart in traffic. Vehicle has been to dealership to investigate a cause 4 times without a conclusive finding for the cause of the draw. Short battery life and repeated battery failure, paraticularly when the car will not re-start at traffic light stops, is a safety hazard for users of the vehicle. More detail available upon request.
NHTSA complaint 11757946I am reporting a safety concern involving my 2022 Kia Telluride EX with approximately 95,000 miles. The vehicle has experienced intermittent rough running, significant loss of engine power, stalling, and recurring check-engine warnings. During one incident, the vehicle started, sputtered, and shut off. The engine oil level was found to be extremely low despite the vehicle having received an oil change approximately 2,000 miles earlier. After adding approximately one quart of oil, the vehicle was able to start and remain running. The check-engine light subsequently illuminated and Kia Connect reported diagnostic code P000A00. The warning light has intermittently turned off, but the fault remained stored in the vehicle's computer and was later confirmed by a Kia dealership. I brought the vehicle to an authorized Kia dealership because of the oil loss and drivability concerns. The dealership documented that no external oil leak was found and stated that the engine was likely consuming excessive oil. An oil-consumption test was initiated. According to the dealership's subsequent documentation, after approximately 1,000 miles the engine was more than two quarts low on oil. During this process, the vehicle continued to experience drivability concerns including rough running/stalling and poor engine power. I am concerned that the vehicle may stall or experience significant loss of motive power while being driven in traffic. I routinely use this vehicle for commuting and transporting my family. Kia ultimately declined warranty coverage based on insufficient maintenance documentation. I am not submitting this complaint to dispute the warranty decision. I am reporting the underlying safety concern because the vehicle has experienced stalling/loss of power together with substantial engine-oil consumption, and the underlying mechanical cause has not been clearly resolved.
NHTSA complaint 11757927Just started the car and the whole dashboard went blank, no speedometer, gas tank, nothing is showing like the whole dashboard died on us while driving
NHTSA complaint 11755746The contact owns a 2022 Kia Telluride. The contact stated that while stopped on several occasions, the Auto START/STOP feature was activated, and the vehicle stalled. The vehicle was able to restart without any further issues. The vehicle was taken to a dealer on three separate occasions; however, the failure was not duplicated. The manufacturer was notified of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 12,000.
NHTSA complaint 11755180Digital instrument cluster disappears upon startup of vehicle. Happened today August 4, 2026. When the digital instrument cluster disappears, the gas cap is also unable to be opened. Getting out of the vehicle and locking the vehicle and then getting back in and restarting the vehicle resets the system. I found this fix after the first time this happened in 2023 by googling and there were so many complaints a forum had been made about it. This is approximately the fifth or sixth time this has happened since purchase of the vehicle in 2022. Previous year 2022 models have a recall for the same problem, my Telluride is not included in that recall as it was built approximately a month after the recall dates. Was able to report the information to my dealer today and have it documented, previous attempt attempts to have them documented at the service department have been denied and was given the reason of “there’s nowhere to put that information if you don’t bring the car in”.
NHTSA complaint 11754735When turning the vehicle, say on to another road and not coming to a full stop, when you accelerate it doesn't want to accelerate, you press the pedal down gradually until all of a sudden it jumps to 2 or 3000 rpms and goes. Previously when we had this issue it was the AWD coupler that was fixed 1 to 2 years ago. My vehicle was inspected just before my warranty was up at around 98000 miles, I waited 8 hours for them to tell me they couldn't recreate the issue, I got in the vehicle and went to leave and had the same issue, turned around had their Lead Technician Zach ride with me and recreated the issue for him, he acknowledged that when I was accelerating the RPMs were not increasing, they kept my vehicle another 5 days after stating the first day they had to open a case with the Tech Line and do a flight diagnostic, after very poor communication over those days and the dealership telling me that the Tech line said if they couldn't recreate it there was nothing they could do, I finally called the Kia Customer Care line to ask for the Case number, the Kia Customer Care line stated that no where in the case did it state a Technician went on a ride along with me and experienced the issue and they also stated that Kia Tech line did not tell them there was nothing more they could do they asked them to keep trying to recreate the issue, eventually after having the vehicle for 6 days I finally had to go get my vehicle back. After 6 days of poor communication and no resolution. I have researched online regarding this issue as well and I am not the only one who has experienced this issue in this vehicle.
NHTSA complaint 11754591The second row of seats folds down and forward while driving, whether or not someone is sitting in them. This feels very unsafe, and I am concerned about how well someone would be restrained by the seat belt in the event of an accident.
NHTSA complaint 11752071My family came across this recall and notified me. It says that we can search for more information as of XXX, but today is JXXX, and I’m not getting anything via a search. I need to know what to do, other than parking it outdoors. The NHTSA CAMPAIGN NUMBER is 26V430000. Kia's number for this recall is SC374. This recall replaces NHTSA recall number 24V407. The info on this website says “Owner notification letters are expected to be mailed XXX.”, but that makes no sense to me. Why wouldn’t owners be notified when this was first posted, XXX ??? The VIN is [XXX] and the MODEL/OPT. CODE is J4232/010. INFORMATION REDACTED PURSUANT TO THE FREEDOM OF INFORMATION ACT (FOIA), 5 U.S.C. 552(B)(6)
NHTSA complaint 11751674I am the original owner of a 2022 Kia Telluride. Since approximately late September/early October 2025, the vehicle has experienced an intermittent engine stalling condition while stopped and idling. I first reported the issue to my Kia dealership on October 8, 2025, when the vehicle had approximately 59,761 miles. At that time, I advised the dealership the engine had already stalled twice within two weeks. I also sent a photo of the warning lights and suggested they allow the vehicle to idle to recreate the condition. The dealership stated they could not duplicate the problem and returned the vehicle without repairs. The same issue continued over the following months. The check engine light appeared multiple times, including in February and April 2026. My Kia Access app repeatedly reported diagnostic code P21A100 (Cylinder 6 Air/Fuel Ratio Imbalance). The dealership advised they could not repair the vehicle because they could not duplicate the concern. During one visit they repaired two engine oil leaks but stated those were unrelated. On July 8, 2026, the defect escalated. While driving through downtown Cincinnati, the engine stalled at three separate traffic lights. When the engine shut off, the battery, oil, check engine, and seatbelt warning lights illuminated. I had to shift into Park, turn the vehicle completely off, and restart it before it would drive again. This created a significant safety hazard in active traffic. The dealership’s current diagnosis is contaminated fuel, but I am reporting this because the same intermittent stalling condition has been documented with the dealership since October 2025 and has never been resolved. An engine that unexpectedly shuts off in traffic presents a serious safety risk to the driver, passengers, and surrounding motorists.
NHTSA complaint 11749731Engine rapidly burning oil. Had oil changed as Manufacturer's recommendation, but after exceeding the 100,000 mile warranty and having been 7,000 miles since the last oil change the engine threw a rod and the car stopped while i was driving it. Was told by the Kia Dealer (Fitzgerald Kia in Annapolis) that I needed a $10,000 engine replaced. I am currently working with a lawyer to address this concern.
NHTSA complaint 11748854My right headlight stopped working, even after replacing bulb several times. The exterior paint is chipping from different areas. The middle seat seatbelts middle and behind driver keep getting stuck, they will not retract. My vehicle is only 4 years old it started with the headlight issue within 2 years. Now the seatbelts and paint, this vehicle has been a pain.
NHTSA complaint 11748092I am reporting a spontaneous sunroof glass failure involving my 2022 Kia Telluride. While driving at normal highway speed, I suddenly heard an extremely loud bang that sounded like an explosion or gunshot. I did not see or hear any object strike my vehicle before the incident. After safely pulling over, I discovered that the panoramic sunroof glass had shattered. The glass appeared to have blown upward and outward from the vehicle, and by the time I stopped, most of the glass was already gone. There was no prior damage, cracking, or warning that the sunroof was compromised. The failure occurred unexpectedly and created a significant safety hazard due to the loud noise, the potential for shattered glass to enter the passenger compartment. I had my 14 year old daughter with me. I man diagnosed with anxiety and ADHD and this had severely affected me because I was the driver and it occurred while operating the vehicle. Luckily, I had the shade closed, because that could’ve been really bad. At the time of the incident, the vehicle had approximately 91,000 miles. I am requesting that this incident be documented and evaluated as a potential safety defect, as I understand other Kia Telluride owners have reported similar spontaneous sunroof failures.
NHTSA complaint 11747772The vehicle has suffered a total failure of the audio output system/amplifier. While the central infotainment screen visually illuminates and functions correctly, there is zero audio output across all speakers and inputs. The failed component is currently in the vehicle and is available for inspection upon request. Because there is no audio output, all voice-activated, hands-free Bluetooth calling and audible turn-by-turn GPS navigation cues are non-functional. Operating the vehicle safely over long distances or in traffic is compromised because utilizing navigation now forces the driver to physically look away from the road to read visual maps on the screen, creating an immediate, severe driver distraction that puts my family and other motorists at risk. The total audio failure was officially diagnosed and confirmed by an authorized Kia dealership service center. The dealership verified that the system outputs zero sound and stated that the entire multimedia/audio control assembly requires a complete replacement. The component has been inspected and diagnosed directly by authorized Kia dealership service technicians, and an official corporate case has been opened with Kia America for a goodwill escalation. There were no warning lamps, error messages, or preliminary symptoms prior to the incident. The audio output system failed suddenly and completely without warning, while the visual dashboard screen remained active.
NHTSA complaint 11746665Technical service bulletins and other notices the manufacturer sent to dealers. A bulletin is not a recall; the 60 most recent are listed.
