Approximately 10 mins into my drive there was a burning smell in my cab, then within a few seconds there was a loud popping/exploding sound. I pulled into a parking lot within 100 feet and exited vehicle. I went to front of vehicle to see if there was smoke and after finding none I leaned back inside my truck’s cab and realized not only was the burning smell stronger but there was visible smoke lingering. At that point I saw that one of the back stationary windows was shattered. Looking closer I saw that below the window the glass was charred and the plastic trim had melted slightly. I stayed out of the vehicle and started researching the possible cause. I read several reports of issues with 5th generation Ram trucks, like mine, experienced issues like mine caused from faulty rear defrosters. After consulting with someone over the phone, I pulled the fuse for the rear defrosters to be certain there would no longer be any type of electric current flowing to the defrosters.
NHTSA complaint 11768389On October 1, 2026, my 2022 Ram 1500 Rebel with the 5.7L HEMI eTorque mild-hybrid system failed to restart after an automatic engine stop-start event at a red light. The engine shut off as designed when I stopped. After about 90 seconds the light turned green and I released the brake, but the engine did not restart, and the truck sat motionless in the traffic lane. When I pressed the accelerator, the engine revved and the truck lurched forward unexpectedly. At that point a battery warning light and an auto stop-start warning (stop-start symbol with an exclamation mark) appeared on the dash. No warning lights appeared before the failure. I pulled over and was able to restart the truck, but the dash voltmeter read about 12.8V while running instead of the normal 14.4V, meaning the 12V battery was not being charged. I drove to my destination. After I shut the truck off and restarted it, voltage returned to about 14.4V. Note that this is not the first time this has occurred and I often keep the automatic start/stop off because it seems to have so many issues.
NHTSA complaint 11768251It won’t let me do cruise control and continues to throw some sort of TPMS isn’t working verbage
NHTSA complaint 11767888Sunshade attachment point at the headliner breaks. The sunshade them falls down in front of the driver blocking visibility.
NHTSA complaint 117676869.15.26 Vehicle came to an abrupt stop at a low speed and put auto brake on and vehicle shut off. I had to restart the vehicle manually. I had already shut of the auto shut off prior this. 9.17.26 Vehicle began to stall but started back up with gas pressure. 9.23.26 Vehicle stopped and went into auto brake, shut off at low speed again. Restarted with the start button. Got to my destination, while idle the hazards lights turned on all by itself. Also, the radio screen will flicker every now and again. 9.23.26 The vehicle was picked up by the dealership to have it looked at.
NHTSA complaint 11767380I was in an emergent situation and beyond for my own safety but also to follow the law i had android auto already connected and used [XXX] to hands free call [XXX] without taking my eyes off the road since the emergent situation was someone almost ran me off the road. When i told [XXX] to call [XXX] [XXX] wasted precious time asking me if im sure that i want to call [XXX] while im trying to report the person who almost ran me off the highway at 75 miles an hour while they went almost 85 90. That is ridiculously insane and when i probed [XXX] as to why it did this it said because it used too call [XXX] without need. I promise no one who is actually in need of it would ever give a XXXXXX if [XXX] occasionally called [XXX] by accident espcially when it involves precious milliseconds not minutes. I "sent feedback" but that never does a XXX thing and when i tried to follow the instructions i needed to use to grab the logs to add to this report the andoid auto section didnt even exist and ever so conviently the logs for that specific interaction couldn't be found either which i find extremely suspicious after the 100's of shady/illegal/harmful things that google/alphabet has done to hide their own fault whenever their products fail. I did after this finally get in contact with the police at XXX dispatch but since i was driving they just asked for my name and info if they needed to get ahold of me so i dont have any information on a police report yet or may not ever recieve info on that regard. I am making this report because it's the only way ive found to report this information outside of google so that hopefully something may get done because that is absolutely unacceptable and google needs to fix it. Idc if they pay a settlement or whatever i just care that it gets XXX fixed because nobody should have to feel what i felt when i was trying to call emergency services and making sure i wasnt misdialing was more important than the emergency INFORMATION REDACTED PURSUANT TO THE FREEDOM OF INFORMATION ACT (FOIA), 5 U.S.C
NHTSA complaint 11767111Power steering has an intermittent failure and have lost power steering multiple times on the highway. Warning lights come on a indicate steering issue. Have noticed this has been reported as an eps issue with the ram 1500's. This has been reproduced by an independent service center and they thought it might be a loose connection with water getting in. They tried to fix this but still getting the issue even when there is no rain. This just started once I passed the 36,000 mile mark and no longer under warranty This is a serious issue as power steering goes out unexpectedly
NHTSA complaint 11766612Truck for about the 6th time in 2 weeks, shut its self off while driving and slams into park. This has happened before and had to be towed to dodge because it wouldn’t restart. I told them what happened and they informed me it was low on fuel, that’s why it did it. But I was doing 60mph on a interstate and lost all power
NHTSA complaint 11766527The contact owns a 2022 Ram 1500. The contact stated that while driving approximately 45-50 MPH in the rain, children in the rear of the vehicle informed the contact that the rear window was allowing water to leak into the vehicle. The water reached several electrical systems, including the rear braking assembly and the third brake light seal above the cab of the vehicle. The vehicle was taken to the dealer who informed the contact that the window and window seals needed to be replaced. The contact decided not to repair the vehicle out of pocket because of TSB Number: 23/098/23 Warranty Ext XL1, which addressed the failure. The dealer informed the contact that the parts for the repair were the same parts that needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not covered under TSB Number: 23/098/23 Warranty Ext XL1 because the TSB expired in 2021. The failure mileage was 53,467.
NHTSA complaint 11766333Warning light appeared and there were issues with with the start/stop feature. It was determined by the dealer that is was caused by an MGU failure.
NHTSA complaint 11766246Dodge Ram Engine light and battery light turn on. I take it to a mechanic close to my house. Service manager connects the truck to the computer and vehicle shows error in alternator which. Dodge specific parts and he advises me to take the truck straight to dodge and not drive it anymore that the battery voltage is dropping and not charging. He sends me email breakdown of all error codes and tells me to give it to dodge. I drop off at dodge and provide all information to advisor including error codes. I tell them everything that happened and what the manager said about the battery voltage. They claim all information I provided wont all fit on the ticket so erases it and put basic information regarding voltage error. I offered to show him the pics and the report that was provided to me by other mechanic but he stated that they will have to do their own diagnostics anyway. Says that my truck has a bunch of software recalls that may clear the problem. I get a call they did a software update that cleared and fixed the problem and it wasn't the MGU. Vehicle was fixed and i could pick up. I pick up truck and the warning lights were cleared. Took it home no more driving. My 17 year old drives truck next day for school event, on his way to school event both lights turn back on. I tell him to come straight home we switch cars and i take directly to dodge. As i'm driving I'm paying attention to the voltage on battery, within a 10 mile drive to drop truck off at dodge the voltage goes from 12.? down to 10.9V. at 10.5 V the vehicles computers will lose power which can cause the power steering to go stiff, transmission to lock up or engine to stall abruptly mid drive. If this would have happened while my son was driving on hwy loop 410 in San Antonio (a major and very busy road) it could have been a disaster causing a wreck, potential loss of control or worse potentially ending in death or serious injury in a truck that was released the day prior as being fixed.
NHTSA complaint 11765502On XXX at approximately 1:00 PM, while driving my 2022 Ram 1500 3.0L EcoDiesel on [XXX] east of [XXX]/north of [XXX], a rigid metal diesel fuel supply tube fractured at approximately 49,209 miles. The failure caused a substantial uncontrolled release of diesel fuel into the engine compartment and underneath the vehicle. Diesel fuel traveled underneath the truck and contaminated portions of the rear of the vehicle. The vehicle's check engine light came on, became disabled and required repair away from home. The failed component has been retained. Photographs show a visible crack/fracture in the metal tube itself rather than at a threaded connection. A replacement Mopar tube was obtained from a Ram dealer. The vehicle previously underwent the Ram/Stellantis high-pressure fuel pump (HPFP) safety recall, Recall 01A/NHTSA 23V-263, on XXX. I do not currently know whether the failed tube was replaced or disturbed during that repair and have requested the prior repair records. I am reporting this because a sudden pressurized diesel fuel leak into the engine compartment presents a potential fire hazard. I have retained the failed component and can make it available for inspection. INFORMATION REDACTED PURSUANT TO THE FREEDOM OF INFORMATION ACT (FOIA), 5 U.S.C. 552(B)(6)
NHTSA complaint 11763016The contact owns a 2022 Ram 1500. The contact stated that while driving on several occasions at various speeds, the ABS, brake, and other unknown warning lights illuminated, and the messages "Traction Control Disengaged", "Shift Knob Required Servicing", "Cruise Control Disconnected", "Video Display Need Servicing," and other unknown messages were displayed. The steering wheel was firm and difficult to turn. The vehicle was turned off and failed to restart immediately. The contact stated that after several minutes, the vehicle restarted. Additionally, while driving with the cruise control feature activated, the feature deactivated inadvertently and the message "Traction Control Disconnected" was displayed. The fuel gauge on the instrument panel was moving erratically and then became inoperable. The vehicle was pulled over to the side of the road, turned off, and then restarted. The vehicle was then taken to the residence. The vehicle was taken to the same dealer four times and was diagnosed with an unknown communication error. During the first visit, the ABS module was replaced. During the second, third, and fourth visits, the dealer was unable to duplicate the failure, but stated that there was a communication error. The manufacturer was not notified of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 60,000.
NHTSA complaint 11762091The contact owns a 2022 Ram 1500. The contact stated that while driving 70 MPH on the interstate, the vehicle lost traction and fishtailed on the wet roadway. While at a stop and turning, the vehicle started spinning like the vehicle was driving on ice, even though the outside temperature was hot. The local dealer was contacted and scheduled an upcoming appointment. The manufacturer was contacted but was unsure if a complaint was taken due to a language barrier. The failure mileage was approximately 30,000.
NHTSA complaint 11761872My 2022 Ram 1500 with the 5.7L HEMI eTorque system illuminated the check-engine light at approximately 88,000 miles with diagnostic codes P0AEE and P0BD4 relating to the motor-generator/inverter temperature sensing system. An authorized Ram dealership diagnosed a failed Motor Generator Unit (MGU) and stated that the MGU requires replacement. I was advised that continued operation could eventually result in the vehicle becoming undrivable, so I am storing the vehicle rather than routinely driving it. The dealer has ordered a replacement MGU but reports a severe national backorder and cannot provide an estimated repair date. Stellantis Customer Care has opened a case and is attempting to expedite the part, but has not provided an ETA. I am reporting this because the MGU is integral to the eTorque starting/charging system and the vehicle cannot presently be repaired within a known timeframe. I understand NHTSA has an existing investigation, PE24-018, concerning loss of motive power in 2022 Ram 1500 eTorque vehicles.
NHTSA complaint 11761537I was driving down the highway, in light rain around 9pm, very little road traffic, when all of a sudden the forward glass of my sunroof exploded, it sounded like a gun shot. But then I heard wind noise and realized the glass on my sunroof just imploded towards the sky. Very alarming, no other sun roof issues previously on this vehicle. Safe lite replaced the sun roof, but it took several weeks for mopar/ram dealership to get the part in. It seems online I’m not the only person with a ram sunroof that’s exploded spontaneously.
NHTSA complaint 11761487The contact owns a 2022 Ram 1500. The contact stated that while driving approximately 40 MPH, the vehicle lost power and coasted to a stop along the curb, stalled, and the transmission independently shifted to park(P). The vehicle failed to restart, and the Police arrived on the scene to assist with traffic control. The vehicle was towed to the local dealer, who replaced the high-pressure fuel pump as part of the repair under NHTSA Campaign Number: 23V263000 (FUEL SYSTEM, DIESEL). However, the repair failed to fix the vehicle. The vehicle was towed to a second dealer, and it was determined that during the failure with the high-pressure fuel pump, the valves in the engine were damaged. The contact was informed that the engine needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not yet repaired. The manufacturer was notified of the failure. The failure mileage was 139,000.
NHTSA complaint 11761358I am submitting this formal complaint regarding my Ram 1500, which I purchased from Tuttle-Click’s Tustin Chrysler Jeep Dodge Ram less than one year ago. Despite the vehicle being relatively new to me, I have experienced multiple serious electrical and safety-related failures, including non-functioning power windows, air conditioning, horn, infotainment/display screen, backup camera, and vehicle sensors. These are not minor inconveniences; several of these failures directly affect the safe operation of the vehicle and my ability to properly operate and maneuver it. I do not believe a vehicle with these systems malfunctioning should be considered safe to drive. I am extremely concerned that I have encountered these problems after purchasing the vehicle from an authorized dealership and after spending my hard-earned money expecting a safe and reliable vehicle. I am requesting that these defects be thoroughly investigated and corrected immediately. I also urge the manufacturer and dealership to review whether similar electrical and safety complaints involving Ram 1500 vehicles indicate a broader recurring problem. I expect a prompt response and a meaningful resolution because I should not be placed in a position where I have to risk my safety or the safety of others simply by operating a vehicle I recently purchased.
NHTSA complaint 11760858When it rains, the ESC, ABS and check engine lights come on. 4WD capability and is disabled and rear backup stopping is disabled. Steering becomes rough like it is locked in 4WD High but once dried out that goes away, and all lights except check engine light goes out. Mechanic reset codes and the next time it rains the scenario repeats itself.
NHTSA complaint 11760657The vehicle has already had the generator replaced due to failure and shutting off while driving down the road and the speed limit. The truck was in the shop for almost 6 moths, then the front drive shaft broke while driving in 2-wheel drive. Now while my wife was driving going 40 mph on HWY 96 the car shut off and put itself in park in the middle of the highway. We were lucky no one hit us and after a few minutes it restarted and we were able to get it off the road and have it towed to the dealer where it is right now.
NHTSA complaint 11759539Technical service bulletins and other notices the manufacturer sent to dealers. A bulletin is not a recall; the 60 most recent are listed.
