My brand new 2027 Safari Condo Alto F1743X travel trailer exploded shortly after the propane was turned on for the first time. The gas alarm sounded and as I was going outside to turn the propane off, the trailer exploded. All of the windows were blown out, the stove was blown out of the countertop, the kitchen cabinet containing the stove was blown up and the right rear storage compartment was blown open. I could have easily been killed. My insurer, USAA, investigated and determined that the coupling for the pipe supplying propane to the stove was not tightened. It wasn't even finger tight. The water heater ignited the gas, causing the explosion. There was a sequence of failures that led to the explosion: 1. The fitting wasn't properly tightened when the stove was installed. 2. The pressure leak down test required by NFPA 1192 5.3.20.6 was not performed at the manufacturer. This is in violation of the RVIA standard the trailer was supposedly certified to. 3. The dealer did not repeat the pressure leak down test as required. USAA has determined that the trailer is a total loss.
