My granddaughter was driving on the freeway. Car just slowed down to 30 miles an hour. Secondary collision Brake system Malfunction warning came on. Also, other lights came on. Luckly no one hit her from behind. She pulled over to the shoulder. Highway patrol came by escorted her off the freeway. By the time she reached a safe place to park, car would not go into gear. Car was towed to a Toyota dealer. After having the car checked I was told it was the transmission. Quote was 9100 dollars for repair. Car had 71329 miles. I have bought 3 Camry vehicles. I was disappointed with all the phone calls I had to make for some help for repair cost from Toyota. I finally had the car repaired after having it towed to Envision Toyota of Milpitas. Received vehicle back 09/15/2026. Out of pocket expense was 5893.03. It was mentioned to me at the Toyota dealer in Vacaville. The transmission was assembled differently in the years 2018-2024 models. Toyota knew about the issue customers were having and did nothing. Now Toyota is being sued.
NHTSA complaint 11765340The contact owns a 2019 Toyota Camry. The contact stated that while driving out of the driveway, the vehicle made an abnormal sound. The contact stated that the bearings in the strut were on the top, causing the front wheels to lower to the ground. The contact heard a very loud clank, and the struts separated from the vehicle at the same time while reversing out of the driveway.
NHTSA complaint 11762892My 2019 Toyota Camry is experiencing repeated door lock actuator failures that I believe create a serious safety hazard. The affected component is the door lock actuator, which controls the electronic locking and unlocking of the door, and the failed components are available for inspection upon request. The problem began with intermittent failures where a door would not lock or unlock from the inside, outside, or remote key fob. The most serious incident involved my driver-side door. After the vehicle went into motion, the doors automatically locked, and I was unable to unlock or open the driver-side door from inside. When I reached my destination, I still could not open the driver’s door and had to crawl across the vehicle and exit through the passenger door. This creates a significant risk in a crash, fire, vehicle submersion, medical emergency, or other situation requiring immediate evacuation because an occupant could be trapped or unable to use the driver’s door as an emergency exit. The problem has now occurred on multiple doors, increasing the potential for fewer usable exits during an emergency. The issue has not been formally confirmed by a dealer because repair facilities wanted to charge hundreds of dollars per door to replace the actuator. I personally replaced the actuator on one affected door, and the door immediately returned to normal operation, confirming the actuator was the cause. Two additional doors have since developed the same symptoms. There were no warning lights or messages; the warning signs were intermittent failure to lock or unlock. The vehicle has not been inspected by Toyota, police, or insurance representatives. I am aware that similar door actuator failures have been reported by other Toyota owners and that a proposed federal class action has alleged premature door lock actuator failures involving Toyota Camry models, including 2012–2024.
NHTSA complaint 11761489The engine overheated due to a failed coolant pump at approximately 47,000 miles. Following diagnostic testing, the Toyota dealership retrieved diagnostic code P26CB71 and confirmed a cooling system fault. The repair consisted of replacing the coolant pump and thermostat.
NHTSA complaint 11758768The power panoramic sunroof is malfunctioning. The sunroof intermittently fails to open or close properly and may become stuck in the tilted/open position. The motor makes clicking/grinding noises, and the automatic open/close function does not consistently work. Multiple attempts with the switch are sometimes required, and the sunroof has become difficult or impossible to close. This creates a safety concern because the sunroof may remain open and cannot reliably be closed.
NHTSA complaint 11758400The contact owns a 2019 Toyota Camry. The contact stated that while driving 35 MPH, the vehicle suddenly stalled. The contact stated that the pre-collision, secondary brake, lane departure, and engine warning lights were illuminated and flashed on and off. The vehicle was restarted after depressing the accelerator pedal, but the vehicle stalled shortly afterwards. The local dealer was not contacted. The vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. The manufacturer was not notified of the failure. The approximate failure mileage was 100,000.
NHTSA complaint 11756907I believe the windshield is defective. I have had multiple chips from small debris but it leaves a surprisingly large crack. These were from interstate driving. I had four different glass crack claims in the last two years. These cracks are deep and concerning that they could penetrate through the windshield.
NHTSA complaint 11756617The transmission is failing after about 65,000 miles (7 years from first use). It can be inspected upon request. My safety is at risk in that the transmission is steadily getting worse and could fail at any time or any speed. The transmission failure was diagnosed and confirmed by a local Toyota dealer. There are no warning lights. A high-pitched whine is heard while driving which gets higher with faster vehicle speed.
NHTSA complaint 11753170Transmission is failing in car. Has started whining, consistent with other complaints I have seen regarding the transmissions in these vehicles.
NHTSA complaint 11752091My check engine and ICS sensor lights came on. My diagnostic shows a failing fuel pump exactly as recall 20TA02. My car is not on the recall list but is presenting the same issue. I was driving on the road when this occurred and my car started stalling and jerking on the road. I had to quickly and safely exit the road and go back home.
NHTSA complaint 117514472019 Toyota Camry with UA80 8-speed automatic transmission experienced complete transmission failure. Vehicle was diagnosed by a mechanic confirming transmission failure. Toyota was contacted for goodwill assistance under case number 260701001190. Toyota has missed multiple promised supervisor callbacks and has not resolved the matter. This transmission is currently the subject of three federal class action lawsuits alleging Toyota knowingly sold vehicles with defective UA80 transmissions prone to premature failure due to heat buildup and defective software programming.
NHTSA complaint 11748629My vehicle completely lost power and stalled on the freeway, requiring a tow. A Toyota dealership has diagnosed it with a total internal failure of the UA80 transmission and quoted me $9,000. This vehicle has been properly maintained, including a documented transmission fluid service at a Toyota facility in March of this year. A modern powertrain should not suffer a life-threatening failure at 130,000 miles. Because of this severe safety defect and my documented maintenance history, I am requesting a Corporate Goodwill Accommodation to cover or significantly cost-share this replacement.
NHTSA complaint 11747844While Driving on the 110 north freeway, glass panaramic roof glass shattered randomly.
NHTSA complaint 11747633Vehicle has 75,000 original miles. At around 73,000 miles, I began to hear a whining noise from the engine bay while accelerating at highway speeds. I took the car into the dealership where they confirmed the transmission has failed and needs to be replaced. All routine maintenance has been done on schedule and is on record with the dealership since original vehicle deployment. This vehicle has the UA80 transmission that is the center of multiple class-action lawsuits in the US due to early failure, allegedly due to design flaws.
NHTSA complaint 11747380Hesitation when shifting gears. Rough or jerky gear changes.
NHTSA complaint 11747327Transmission has gone bad 109k miles, took it to dealer they said Transmission is bad ,started with slippage in gears and clutch, gave me code for solenoids, and now is undriveable.
NHTSA complaint 11746820At approximately 93,000 miles, my vehicle experienced a sudden transmission malfunction. About one week before the failure, intermittent warning messages appeared for Emergency Braking Malfunction and Forward Collision Warning Malfunction. These warnings appeared and disappeared several times over multiple days. About three days before the major transmission issues began, the vehicle was taken to an authorized Toyota dealership in North Brunswick, New Jersey, for a routine oil change. At that time, the vehicle was operating normally, and no transmission-related issues were reported. 3 days later, the warning messages returned, and the check engine light came on. Around the same time, the vehicle began experiencing serious transmission problems, including delayed shifting, harsh gear changes, and RPM flare-ups without corresponding acceleration. These issues created a serious safety risk because the vehicle could hesitate or fail to accelerate properly when merging into traffic, turning at intersections, or attempting to avoid hazards. The unpredictable shifting and loss of power increased the risk of a collision. After the check engine light appeared, the vehicle was returned to the same Toyota dealership. The dealership performed diagnostic testing and identified internal transmission and transmission control system faults, including solenoid-related failures and torque converter clutch issues. The dealership determined that the transmission requires full replacement and provided a repair estimate of approximately $12,000. The vehicle has no known prior accident damage related to this issue. there are numerous consumer complaints involving similar transmission problems in 2018–2019 Toyota Camry vehicles equipped with the 8-speed automatic transmission. I am filing this complaint because this failure occurred at relatively low mileage for a Toyota vehicle and presents a significant safety concern due to unpredictable power delivery and loss of acceleration.
NHTSA complaint 11745221While driving the vehicle on a street it shut off on it's own in the middle of the road. It was terrifying. Had it pulled to my house. Once I was able to get it towed it went to Stockton CA Toyota Dealership and had it inspected with results of it needs a new transmission. They had no clue was was wrong with it just that it needed a new transmission. I have not driven the vehicle since this happened because it will not drive. It's going on 4 months now. The car at first was pulling and shaking and would not go into 3rd gear. It was stuck in acceleration. It was making a loud noise and it just got worse. I haven't had the vehicle for a year. I have researched this and there are many many having the same issue with this type of vehicle.

NHTSA complaint 11744274June 9,2026 I was in gig harbor washington visiting my son. I pulled into the right side of the drive way as I have done a 1000 times over the years. I was slowly pulling up to the right side of the garage and the car surged forward at full speed 5 ft away. It smashed the front of the house. Filed a claim with USAA car insurance. Last year in August of 2025 I was in the Tag n Go car wash. I pulled up they stopped me and I put the car in neutral. This let the car wash pull my car throught the car wash on a one track driver side system. My windshield was covered with soap and the car surged forward and hit the SUV in front of me. When the soap rinsed off I wash under the car in front of me. I put the car in reverse from neutral. It caused no damage to the car in front but caused about $1700.00 damage to my car. The car wash had video that showed my car surge forward and hit the car in front of me. This is two incidents in 11 months of my camry surging forward.
