Hitch-mounted bike rack triggers false PKSB (Parking Support Brake) auto-braking when reversing. All four tires skid, bikes experience tremendous torque on the rack, and cargo inside the vehicle shifts heavily. No actual obstacle present. Tow/haul mode does not reliably prevent it. This is a safety defect. Uncommanded braking can cause rear-end collisions. Owner is located in the United States. Multiple Land Cruiser forum owners report the same issue with hitch-mounted bike racks and false auto-braking.
NHTSA complaint 11767320Fog Lights (Rigid Industries Version) significantly shake during normal street driving conditions. Any minor bumps on the road cause a shudder like movement from the fog lights that is distracting while driving and potentially blinding to oncoming drivers as the lights flash up and down. Vehicle was taken to Beaver Toyota and inspected for this concern, the technician inspected the fog lights and stated that there was nothing wrong. The vibration / shake from the fog lights is well documented as a concern in online forums, however, everyone seems to get the same response from Toyota. It seems other Land Cruiser owners with the same fog light package have no issues with shake while others have the same issue described above, making me believe that there is a defect with some models fog lights, the housings, brackets, or bumper assembly. This needs to be solved from Toyota, not only is it distracting while driving, it makes me want to not use the fog lights at all. For a $70k+ vehicle, the movement from the fog lights should not be "normal".
NHTSA complaint 11759632I purchased a Maxi-Cosi Peri 180 infant car seat and discovered what I believe may be a defect in the carrier-to-base locking mechanism. When the infant carrier is installed in the base and appears to be fully latched, the rear of the carrier can lift out of its locking slot with gentle upward pressure without using the release handle. The front of the carrier remains attached, but the rear partially disengages from the base. The child’s safety may be put at risk because the carrier does not appear to remain fully secured to the base during normal handling. I am concerned that if the rear of the carrier can partially disengage this easily, it could affect the seat’s performance during sudden braking or a crash. The car seat is available for inspection upon request. At the time of this report, the car seat has not been inspected by the manufacturer, law enforcement, insurance representatives, or any other third party. I have contacted the manufacturer regarding my concerns and am awaiting their response. The seat was installed according to the manufacturer’s instructions, and the issue was repeatable after verifying proper installation. we have videos explaining/showing this as well.
NHTSA complaint 11754959The contact owns a 2024 Toyota Land Cruiser Hybrid. The contact stated that while driving 80 MPH, the vehicle started leaning to the left and the right. The vehicle then overcorrected and abruptly swerved to the left and right again. The contact was concerned about the failure occurring while driving at higher speeds. There was no warning light illuminated. The dealer was not notified of the failure. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was notified of the failure. The failure mileage was 30,000.
NHTSA complaint 11753254Electric oil pump for transmission failed at 16,000 miles -no immediate safety risk to my knowledge -the problem was reported by me and acknowledged by Toyota dealership (San Rafael) and replaced under factory warranty -I do not know if failed part was inspected by Toyota, police or insurance - was not to my knowledge -No warning prior to failure
NHTSA complaint 11751829The fuel line clip of the Land Cruiser got disconnected and started leaking gasoline while the engine was running. I had the car towed to Hammer Toyota and they had us pay for the hose to be reconnected. I’ve searched online and seen people have similar incidents, where the clip of the fuel line gets easily disconnected when driving over puddles. This happened as a defect, as no one had spent any time working under the car aside from the toyota dealership. I believe a similar issue has happened with the 6th gen 4Runner and a remedy was issued.
NHTSA complaint 11750164My 2024 Toyota Land Cruiser has exhibited persistent brake squealing since the day it was purchased. The noise occurs during normal braking conditions and has been present from the very first use of the vehicle. This is not a break-in issue, as it has never resolved on its own. Despite initially denying the issue, Toyota and the dealership have since acknowledged the problem and confirmed the existence of a Technical Service Bulletin (TSB) addressing brake noise on this vehicle. However, despite multiple contacts with both the dealership and Toyota Motor North America directly, no corrective action has been taken, and the defect remains unresolved. This constitutes a known manufacturing defect acknowledged by Toyota themselves. The failure to remedy a documented TSB issue in a timely manner is unacceptable and may constitute a violation of warranty obligations.
NHTSA complaint 11733863The contact owns a 2024 Toyota Land Cruiser Hybrid. The contact stated that while driving at various speeds, the driver's assist feature became inoperable, causing the vehicle to unintendedly steer into the left lane. The contact stated that while driving approximately 70 MPH, the vehicle detected an upcoming off-ramp and suddenly determined that the driver did not wish to take the off-ramp and self-corrected at the last moment, automatically steering the vehicle to the left across two lanes in highway traffic. The contact stated that the failure had occurred on several occasions. The vehicle was taken to the local dealer, who was unable to duplicate or diagnose a failure. The vehicle was not repaired. The contact stated that the front windshield had developed several cracks and had to be replaced. The manufacturer was not yet contacted. The failure mileage was 9,000.
NHTSA complaint 11716148While driving on a windy day, the trim piece behind each rear view mirror blew off.
NHTSA complaint 11714942Driving on the highway, I slowed down from 65mph to 45-50mph due to standing water ahead of me, immediately after hitting water, the engine stumbled. Soon after the engine stopped running. In hybrid mode only, was not able to maintain speed. I noticed the smell of fuel in the cabin, I noticed my vehicle range dropping rapidly. The odor of unburnt gasoline was very strong and I had begun to get a headache and get dizzy, I had to open the windows while it was pouring heavy rain. Given the area had a lot of standing water, I wasn't able to stop safely. I was able to limp the vehicle in hybrid mode to a nearby uphill exit. Once stopped, I immediately left the interior of the vehicle for fresh air. If there was no shoulder and I wasn't literally next to a highway exit, I would be in deep sh**. After stopping, I checked the airbox to see if water made it into the intake. It was bone dry. Walking the right side of the vehicle I saw fuel on the ground. I called for a tow truck and they dropped me off at home. When I looked underneath the car and found the fuel line hanging free. The clip holding the tank and chassis fuel lines together was missing. I went to the local Toyota dealership and the technicians said it was not a warranty issue because it's impact damage and that I should talk to my insurance about fixing the car because it was going to be $3500 dollars to drop the prop shaft, transfer case, transmission, and other parts to replace the line because "toyota does not sell the clip alone". The line was $168 dollars. I probed further and they brought the price down to $118. Online, the fuel line is $56 dollars. I checked the Land Cruiser forums and multiple people have experienced this issue under identical conditions, others have found the clip loose during regular maintenance. This appears to be a dangerous design flaw. My 2012 Tacoma and 2016 Land Cruiser do not have these issues since they use common steel spring clips to hold fuel lines in place.
NHTSA complaint 11712916My LC LC has 31k miles. This morning, I do what I always do when finishing an outing. Put the vehicle in park, turn it off, and get out. Today, the inside door handle would not let me out. It was like it was disconnected altogether. The door was unlocked. That being said, I unlocked and locked sever times. Still wouldn't let me out. I eventually put down the window, pulled once and twice on the outside door handle, wouldn't release, third time, released. NHTSA complaint 11708331My Toyota Landcruiser First Edition was locked and parked directly in front of my residence, right in front of my bedroom window. Thief broke the rear window, climbed in, and took 25 minutes to start the car before driving off without the factory alarm ever sounding. I reasonably believed a premium vehicle with a factory alarm would detect glass breakage or intrusion, but it does not. This appears to be a design vulnerability affecting theft risk.
NHTSA complaint 11700479Was told the electric pump housed within the transmission failed and is not sold separately so I need a whole new transmission. No ETA on when that may actually happen. When I shifted from Park into Reverse, Neutral and Drive and then back into Park I get a horrible screeching sound and was told that the truck is not safe to drive.
NHTSA complaint 11696389Distance between the road and the underside of the wheel arches in the rear differs by 1.25 inches. Rear sagging to the left. Left rear spring weaker than right rear. Accentuated body lean when taking a right hand turn. Same load over each wheel causes more compression on the left spring versus the right spring. Toyota states the right to left is equal...this is not case.
NHTSA complaint 11690872Temperature control module, AC amplifier and/or blend door actuator not functioning properly. air flow manual controls non responsive at certain temperature settings. Blend door actuator improperly overriding manual controls and cutting airflow significantly.
NHTSA complaint 11687418Brakes are extremely loud especially when backing up
NHTSA complaint 11683203At startup in garage in subfreezing condition. I put vehicle in reverse and brakes did not engage at normal pedal pressure. I had to push the brakes with extreme force to slow down the backwards movement. I did not think I would be able to stop the car. I had driven the vehicle the night before in wintery conditions and parked in my detached unheated garage. I feel like there may have been ice build up on the brake pads/rotors. Has not happened again but I have not had the exact same conditions. Will note the engine was revving at a little higher rpm because it was very cold out and was at start-up (normal behavior) but created a bit more force in reverse. There would have been a collision if something were behind me, it took that long to stop.
NHTSA complaint 11677206While driving on highway in New Jersey we heard something that sounded like a gunshot. We pulled back the sun shade for the sunroof and discovered sun roof had exploded.
NHTSA complaint 11668378The transmission slams hard into gear when accelerating.
NHTSA complaint 11668184Horrible squeaking when car is backing up in reverse
NHTSA complaint 11665379Technical service bulletins and other notices the manufacturer sent to dealers. A bulletin is not a recall.
