For second time fordt time was in 2024 bow again in September of 2026 while accelerating i loose power while shifting gears. No matter how hard i push accelerator it does not provide power feels almost like seiches to from drive . Worried that loss of power will cause accident since i csn accelerate. Toyoa want me to replicate this condition and is impossible to do. Offed to pay myself to check for metal shavings. I will pay to stay safe if they will deny the issue again. No check engine light
NHTSA complaint 11768069car passed and the vehicles breaks were pressed with the foot pedal to allow the other car to pass quickly but they did not work and the vehicle went off the road
NHTSA complaint 11767628Have 2 incidents. 1. Transmission would do a hard jerk when shifting from 1st to 2nd going about 20MPH. Also happened when slowing down. Also happened when going from park to reverse/drive and/or reverse to drive. Happened randomly. Had to tech from dealer for ride along and tech saw it happen first hand. Ended up getting new transmission. Truck has 30K miles. 2. Drivers side door handle broke. Had to roll down window to open door from outside.
NHTSA complaint 11765472I am reporting an intermittent and potentially safety-related drivability/powertrain issue with my 2024 Toyota Tacoma Trailhunter i-FORCE MAX. The vehicle has experienced previous intermittent abnormal drivetrain/transmission behavior while towing, particularly while towing in rain. During previous occurrences, the drivetrain/transmission felt as though it was slipping or behaving abnormally. These concerns were previously reported to Toyota dealers, but the condition could not be duplicated and no definitive cause was identified. The most recent and most serious occurrence happened while towing a travel trailer up a steep grade in heavy rain. The vehicle was operating in 2WD with Tow/Haul mode and S/manual shifting engaged. The vehicle was under significant engine/drivetrain load, operating at approximately 3,500-4,000 RPM and approximately 3rd/4th gear. Before the warning messages appeared, I noticed abnormal drivetrain behavior and RPM fluttering/hunting, similar to the previous intermittent transmission/drivetrain problems. The vehicle then experienced a complete loss of accelerator response. The engine remained running, but accelerator input became essentially unresponsive. Pressing the accelerator did not cause the engine RPM to increase. After removing my foot from the accelerator, the engine continued running at approximately idle. The following warning messages appeared: * “Call Your Dealer” * “System Malfunction” * “Drive Start Control Malfunction”
NHTSA complaint 11765041Driver side doors won’t open. Truck locks you in. It has 25k miles on it and Toyota dealer says they can’t get the parts to make my truck safe.
NHTSA complaint 11764785While the vehicle was parked in my driveway, I noticed oil leaking on the ground and discovered that the rear shock absorber had suffered a catastrophic structural failure. The vehicle is a 2024 Toyota Tacoma TRD Off-Road covered under the manufacturer's original factory warranty. This specific vehicle configuration is included under active federal safety recall campaign 26TB14 / 26TA14 (NHTSA Campaign Number 26V514) for rear suspension failure. Upon taking the vehicle to an authorized dealership, it was determined that the vehicle is completely unsafe to operate and entirely undriveable due to the severity of this rear suspension component failure. The manufacturer has officially opened a corporate case file but has logged a nationwide parts backlog, stating that the required replacement safety components are completely unavailable due to supply chain restrictions. As a result, the manufacturer is unable to remedy this critical safety defect for up to six months, leaving an active, under-warranty recall vehicle grounded and severely incapacitated on a dealership lot indefinitely due to a known factory manufacturing defect
NHTSA complaint 11763941I am looking to purchase a used Toyota Tacoma and was interested in this vehicle. As I studied the CARFAX report I noticed it had been sold twice with active recalls and never repaired. Right Toyota sold the vehicle as "Certified" and never fixed the first recall and eventually Chapman sold the vehicle with a second recall that was never fixed although they aren't selling the vehicle as certified.
NHTSA complaint 11760520On my 24 Tacoma TRD Sport early in July my wife went to run the A/C and it was just blowing air. I took it to the local Toyota dealer on July 27, and they told me that a small pin hole leaked all of the freon out. Something like a rock or road debris. As they gave me the estimate to repair, excess of $3,000 I argued back that I had no idea what happened until my wife went to run the A/C. The dealer responded to file an "accident report" with insurance as the best course of action. I had full warranty coverage for 10 years, 100,000 miles and my truck had 25,000 miles on it. So, I called my insurance company to make up a date and time of when "something" hit the truck to develop this pin hole leak. Bottom line, this A/C condenser lies vulnerable to getting hit along with other critical components on the large openings on this model truck. The other fact is how quickly this A/C condenser failed from road debris is concerning regarding quality of parts being installed on new vehicles. I will include pictures downloaded. This truck came with a felt, fabric type front "skid" plate that I replaced with steel skid plate. And after this "incident" I installed chicken wire cut-outs over the 4 lower openings where the "debris" came in at speed and planning a mesh style grill protector to fill in the other lower openings. The question is, why do I have to go out of my way and expense to protect critical components from road debris that are a hazard today? And why should I have to pay so much for literally defective parts that failed so easily? I have not repaired the condenser because I have to save up to pay for it all. So, when the weather is warmer, my truck sits when it should be driven to baseball games and other activities including work. This has hampered my experience with this newer truck and my relationship with the dealer and corporate Toyota (which I called) to fully understand why they would both not lift a finger to assist.
NHTSA complaint 11759027The contact owns a 2024 Toyota Tacoma. The contact stated that while driving 40 MPH, the vehicle jumped a curb, went down a riverbank, and crashed into a telephone pole. The air bags did not deploy. The brake pedal was depressed but the vehicle failed to respond as needed. The parking brake was engaged, and the vehicle stopped. The message “Parking Brake Malfunction - See Dealer” was displayed. There was no injury sustained. A Police report was not filed. The vehicle was taken to the local dealer, and the contact was informed that there was abnormal brake wear. The dealer determined that the pistons had detached. The vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic, where an unknown repair was performed. The manufacturer was notified of the failure, but no assistance was provided. The failure mileage was approximately 40,000.
NHTSA complaint 11757619Back up camera lines not working shortly after purchase. Fault code shows faulty or corroded wiring.
NHTSA complaint 11756400I was driving down the freeway and the motor suddenly stopped working, had to wait for hours in the 100 degree heat for a tow truck. I was informed by Toyota that a fuel injector failed and that it was leaking fuel into the cylinder.
NHTSA complaint 11753222Car drove fine day before incident, went to drive to water a neighbors plants and noticed a puddle of oil in my garage. Did the shock test by making the rear of the vehicle shake on each side. Rear drivers side shock failed as the vehicle kept bouncing and had no tension when pushing down. Seal between oil reservoir and shock blew and all oil had leaked out. Shock no longer functions, dealer is holding vehicle until a replacement arrives. Dealer confirmed the shocked failed and has ordered the part. It is on a national back order. Can provide a repair invoice once part arrives at dealer, repair is made, and I receive the receipt. I have been waiting for about a month now. Seems like this issue is happening to a lot of owners. In the pictures I am uploading you can see that the shock appears greasy that is from the oil.
NHTSA complaint 11752758On 7/6/2024 after already having driven my truck to the store I noticed that the rear cab power sliding window exploded outward. Most of the glass was on the tonneau cover but some was inside. While cleaning it I noticed some has fallen into the seat belt assembly for the rear passenger seat. The temperature was 81f and there was absolutely no possible way that this was vandalism or a projectile hitting the glass. Toyota won't cover it or take responsibility. Fine, my concern is the glass that fell into the seatbelt assembly and how that might affect the safety of the belt.
NHTSA complaint 11750067The contact owns a 2024 Toyota Tacoma. The contact stated that while driving at an undisclosed speed, there was a whining sound coming from the steering wheel. Additionally, while starting or while driving the vehicle, the vehicle was making a ticking sound. The contact stated that while driving at an undisclosed speed, the vehicle lost motive power, the screen froze, with several unknown warning lights illuminated. The vehicle experienced a failure with the steering, the vehicle lost motive and electrical power. The vehicle was taken to a dealer where it was diagnosed with an unspecified steering failure and the vehicle was repaired under warranty, however, the failure reoccurred. The vehicle was taken back to a dealer but was not initially diagnosed; however, a mechanic duplicated the failure during a test drive. The pulley system and other undetermined parts were replaced, but the failure reoccurred. The vehicle was taken back to a dealer where the technician stated that the vehicle was operating normally, but the pulley system was replaced a second time, but the failure persisted. The vehicle was taken back to a dealer, and the entire pulley system was replaced, and the display screen was re-flashed, but months later the failure recurred and became worse. The vehicle was repaired another time, but the dealer was unable to determine the cause of the failure. The vehicle remained with the dealer and was diagnosed with an air conditioning compressor failure which caused the ticking sound. The vehicle was repaired, but the dealer declined to accept fault if the air conditioning compressor failed again. The manufacturer was notified of the failure. The failure mileage was 23,000.
NHTSA complaint 11747781While stopped at a highway stop light the light turned green and the truck would not shift into first gear. I tried cycling the clutch, shifting into second, and shifting into reverse but the truck would still not shift into first gear as if it were blocked halfway between neutral and first gear. There was a semi-truck fast approaching behind me and they had to lay on the horn and swerve dangerously into the next lane over to avoid hitting me while I was stopped at a green light. Finally, after about 30 seconds and multiple attempts I was able to engage first gear after pumping the clutch a few times and going from second to first gear. I will reach out to the dealer to see if this is something they cover under their warranty, but the issue is intermittent. It has happened a few times before but not to this extent or risk level.
NHTSA complaint 11746852I’ve had this truck for less than 2 years and the driver’s indoor handle has snapped and broken twice. The handle stays intact but the inner component breaks. The only way to open the door is from the outside of the vehicle. This is extremely dangerous in case of an emergency. I either have to roll the window down to open the window from the outside or climb out of the drivers seat and use an alternate door in the car. The dealership fixed the issue the first time and advised that this has been happening to other customers as well. I will be taking my vehicle back to fix again next week. My car is under warranty, however, if my car was not under warranty, the dealership would’ve expected me to pay for the fix, despite this being a safety related issue.
NHTSA complaint 11745418The 2024 Tacoma has a recall out for the screen because it blacks out. We took it to the dealer to remedy this recall, even though we were not experiencing symptoms associated with the recall. After they did the update, our screen blacks out and the Bluetooth does not work. Our screen is blacking out and our Bluetooth does not work after the Toyota dealership allegedly fixed the recall.
NHTSA complaint 11743748The factory Heads Up Display (HUD) on my 2024 Toyota Tacoma Limited (VIN: [XXX] ) intermittently resets its motorized vertical position to the fully raised/home position, most often triggered when unlocking the vehicle and opening the driver door. The HUD panel actuates upward without input, partially removing projected speed, navigation, and driver-assist data from the driver's sightline. The component is available for inspection. Safety risk: The displacement is unpredictable and intermittent. A driver relying on the HUD for speed or warning information may not notice the shift until already in motion, creating a distraction hazard. Dealer confirmation: Three visits to Envision Toyota of [XXX] . RO #XXX (11/30/2024, 2,259 mi) — FTS contacted, could not duplicate, no TSB found, no repair. RO #XXX (03/03/2026, 15,039 mi) — noted as 3rd visit for same concern. Toyota Technical Assistance Center contacted; TAC Case #XXX opened. Toyota's documented response: condition acknowledged, no repair procedure available, concern under investigation. Manufacturer inspection: Yes — Toyota TAC has formally acknowledged the defect via the above case number. Warning lamps/messages: None. No warning indicators accompany the reset. First observed shortly after delivery (September 2024). INFORMATION REDACTED PURSUANT TO THE FREEDOM OF INFORMATION ACT (FOIA), 5 U.S.C. 552(B)(6)
NHTSA complaint 11734910Vehicle Information Vehicle: 2024 Toyota Tacoma VIN: [XXX] ate: January 26, 2025 Repair Completed: October 1, 2025 Safety Complaint Description Beginning on or about February 5, 2025, my 2024 Toyota Tacoma developed a serious braking-related safety issue that substantially affected the safe operation of the vehicle. When I brought the vehicle to the dealership, I reported braking concerns and was advised by dealership personnel that the vehicle may not be safe to drive due to concerns that the rear brakes might not function properly under certain conditions. I was specifically told by dealership staff that they would not recommend driving the vehicle due to safety risks. Despite this warning, I was forced to continue operating the vehicle because no repair remedy was available at that time and no equivalent loaner vehicle or safe alternative transportation was provided. Over the course of several months, I repeatedly contacted the dealership regarding the issue. Each time, I was told that no repair remedy was available and that nothing could be done until Toyota released a repair solution. I was also advised that my only option was to leave the vehicle at the dealership indefinitely, which was not practical because the vehicle was my only means of transportation. As a result, I was forced to continue driving a vehicle that had been identified as unsafe. The defect remained unresolved for approximately eight months. During this time, I experienced significant safety concerns and loss of reliable vehicle use. Because of the prolonged delay in repair and lack of alternative transportation, I was ultimately forced to purchase another vehicle in order to maintain necessary transportation. The braking-related condition was not permanently corrected until approximately October 1, 2025. This situation created significant safety concerns because I was forced to operate a vehicle that dealership personnel advised may not be safe to drive, yet INFORMATION REDACTED PURSUANT TO THE FREEDOM OF INFORMATION ACT (FOIA
NHTSA complaint 11732160After having Toyota Tacoma rear brake hose recall performed at Steven Toyota Harrisonburg Va I have very poor braking! This is a huge safety concern for my family and myself. Toyota is not taking this matter seriously. I was told “bring it in and let the tech have another wack at it”. No get a master tech on this problem immediately! I had reservations about having this recall performed by Toyota because in Toyotas pursuit to fix a problem they always make it worse. This has been our family’s experience over the course of many years. I have reported this issues to Toyota corporate and they are oblivious to our families safety concerns. They are more concerned about their protocol.
