To Whom It May Concern, I am reporting a recurring safety defect involving the exterior side mirrors of my vehicle. The vehicle has a driver-profile system that stores the seat and side-mirror positions. When the vehicle is unlocked, the mirrors are supposed to return to the positions saved in the driver's profile. Instead, approximately 6 out of 10 times I unlock the vehicle after it has been allowed to enter sleep mode for about 10 minutes, the side mirrors move to an incorrect and seemingly random position. Sometimes they move too far outward and other times too far inward. On some occasions, the mirror position has also changed while the vehicle was being driven. This creates a significant safety concern because I cannot reliably depend on the mirrors to provide the correct field of view. An incorrectly positioned mirror can cause me to make an incorrect judgment about the location of another vehicle when changing lanes or merging, potentially resulting in a collision. I first reported this issue to the dealership by email on October 22, 2025. At that time, the issue was difficult to reproduce, and the dealership reported that it could not identify the problem. Beginning around June 2026, the problem became substantially more frequent. I reported it again in August 2026, and the dealership has since taken the vehicle in twice in an attempt to diagnose and repair the problem. The dealership has opened multiple technical cases and performed software/electronic diagnostic procedures, including an MHU/T-Box reset and software update, but the problem continues. The side mirror is available for inspection upon request. The problem has been inspected and addressed by the authorized dealership. There were no warning lights or warning messages associated with the problem. I respectfully request that NHTSA investigate whether this is a broader issue affecting other vehicles and determine whether further manufacturer action or a safety recall is warranted.
NHTSA complaint 117680442024 VinFast VF8 – Repeated Sudden Loss of Propulsion at Highway Speeds My 2024 VinFast VF8 has experienced three separate incidents of sudden loss of propulsion while being driven at highway speeds. On August 1, 2026, while traveling at approximately 80 mph, the vehicle suddenly lost propulsion. I was able to maneuver the vehicle to the side of the roadway. The vehicle restarted after approximately 15 minutes. A “12V Battery Fault” warning was displayed. On August 2, 2026, while traveling at approximately 80 mph, the vehicle again suddenly lost propulsion. I was able to maneuver the vehicle out of active traffic. The vehicle restarted after approximately 15 minutes. On September 2, 2026, while traveling at approximately 60 mph, the vehicle experienced a third sudden loss of propulsion. I was able to maneuver the vehicle off the roadway. The vehicle did not restart and remains completely inoperable. The vehicle displayed the warning: “12V Battery Charge fault: The vehicle may not restart after shutting down. Please contact VinFast Service Center for assistance.” These repeated propulsion failures created a serious safety hazard because they occurred unexpectedly at highway speeds and required me to maneuver the vehicle out of active traffic without normal propulsion. No collision or injury occurred. The cause of the repeated propulsion loss is currently unknown. The vehicle has not yet been inspected or diagnosed by VinFast or an authorized service facility because VinFast has been unable to arrange transportation of the inoperable vehicle for service. The vehicle remains completely inoperable and is available for inspection upon request. VinFast has been notified of the issue through Roadside Assistance case #04426960.

NHTSA complaint 11700491The contact leased a 2024 VINFAST VF 8. The contact stated that upon pulling into the driveway with the rear wheels of the vehicle on the side of the roadway, the brake pedal was depressed, but the vehicle unintendedly accelerated. The driver swerved and avoided the residence, and the vehicle crashed into a flowerpot. The vehicle then accelerated 70-80 ft. on the sidewalk, passed several residences, and the vehicle stopped. The air bags did not deploy. There was no injury sustained. No police report was filed. Additionally, the contact stated that while her sister was attempting to park downhill, the vehicle unintendedly accelerated temporarily and responded as needed. The contact also stated that while driving on the Golden Gate Bridge at an undisclosed speed and approaching a toll, the contact decelerated to 25 MPH, but the vehicle suddenly accelerated, and the passenger's side of the vehicle struck the guardrail. There were no warning lights illuminated. The air bags did not deploy. There was no injury sustained. No police report was filed. No further information was available. The contact stated that she was concerned for her safety because the vehicle was unsafe to drive. The local dealer was not contacted because the dealer had closed. The vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. The manufacturer was notified of the failures and referred the contact to the auto finance company for assistance. The failure mileage was approximately 8,000.
NHTSA complaint 11692362The contact's wife owns a 2024 VinFast VF8. The contact stated that while driving in a parking lot, attempting to park, and the brake was depressed, the vehicle kept moving. The vehicle collided with two other vehicles and then came to a stop. The contact stated that there were no injuries sustained, and medical attention was not sought. A police report was filed. The vehicle was towed to an independent mechanic, where there has not been a diagnosis as of yet. The manufacturer was not notified of the failure. The failure mileage was 7,500.
NHTSA complaint 11689686We have two VinFast VF8 vehicles, one with the VIN [XXX] (VF8 Black) and one with the VIN [XXX] (VF8 White). Both vehicles experienced the same problem with the electric power train at different times. The issue manifests itself as follows: The vehicle suddenly displays a "drive train malfunction error" on the center display, it then jerks a couple of times, loses all power, and stops. After that, it is not possible to put the transmission back into drive or reverse, only neutral or park. VF8 Black experienced this problem first on [XXX]. We contacted VinFast and asked for the vehicle to be serviced under warranty. VinFast picked up the car on 3/17/2025 and took it to their service center in Irvine, CA. There is no VinFast service center in San Diego, CA, were we live. VinFast returned the vehicle on 3/25/2025. The repair report stated "Technician road test with the same conditions as the customer was unable to duplicate. Technician also verified the cause with the engineering team which have told me that the issue would be resolved in a future update. Vehicle drives as designed with no issues." Apparently the issue was known to the VinFast engineering team. Then on [XXX] VF8 White experienced the same problem. We contacted VinFast who picked up the vehicle on 6/3/2025. On 7/13/2025 I asked VinFast for an update as we had not heard anything. Finally, the responded saying that they are waiting for a part. On 7/27/2025 I received an that the repair was completed. The repair report states that a software update was done to fix the issue. I have not received the vehicle back. VinFast won't return the car to us. They now ask us to pick it up or have it delivered at our expense. We are concerned that the issue is still not resolved and that the vehicles are unsafe to drive, in particular on freeways where a sudden stop can create hazardous conditions with severe consequences. NHTSA complaint 11678395The forward collision warning keeps faulting. The software sends incorrect errors and shuts off some of the safety features when doing so. The steering wheel is stuck in the 'exit' position, meaning it's retracted and in the highest position, making it difficult to maneuver. Various alarms randomly sound for no reason. The car has had multiple software updates and the problems remain persistent.
NHTSA complaint 11677372While accelerating onto a highway, several systems faulted including the high voltage and 12v systems, which apparently cause the vehicle to shift into neutral and get stuck in the neutral position (while still on the highway) Several safety systems on the vehicle (such as forward collision avoidance) constantly fault and then reset themselves as well.
NHTSA complaint 11677120The left turn signal fails to activate when pressing down on the turn signal lever. Happens intermittently. Vinfast repair center says they can not duplicate the problem. Online forums report this is a widespread problem which Vinfast does not know how to repair. This is a major safety concern because when you press down on the lever you assume your turn signal is on and therefore you change lanes. But many times I'm changing lanes and the signal is not on. Therefore it could cause a collision with another vehicle.
NHTSA complaint 11657053The contact owns a 2024 Vinfast VF8. The contact stated that while driving at an undisclosed speed, there was an excessive squeaking sound coming from the front suspension. No warning lights were illuminated. The vehicle was not taken to the dealer or an independent mechanic. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was notified of the failure, and a case was opened. The failure mileage was 1,000.
NHTSA complaint 11654609While driving and starting to do a turn if you get to close to the line the car will jerk the steering wheel in the direction you are turning and there has been a multiple times it's almost put my car into a concrete wall. It has also jerk the wheel hard enough that its caused me to go out of my lane and almost crash into other cars on turns. I would say it has happen at least 30 times since taking ownership November 11, 2024
NHTSA complaint 11647254Vehicle did not slow down when in assistant driving mode. The vehicle was coming up on an intersection with a stoplight with two cars ahead of it. I had to apply breaks manually with the failure of the system slowing down fast enough. When I manually applied the brakes I pressed them hard after disengaging the driving assistant the car did not send any notifications following disengagement. The automatic emergency braking system also was not activated given that the vehicle had at minimum a cars length distance to stop. I did not receive an alert for the forward collision warning system even before applying brakes. I rear ended another car without any nonfictions to the car making impact as well. I commute on this road often as it is on the way to my job so I am familiar with the lights and intersections but was going further than usual which is why I decided to engage driving assistant.
NHTSA complaint 11635674The contact owns a 2024 Vinfast VF8. The contact stated that while driving at various speeds, the Lane Assist feature constantly jerked the vehicle back to the center of the lane. The contact stated that the safety feature was very sensitive and was active upon the slightest drift. The contact was able to manually turn off the feature upon start of the vehicle; however, the contact stated that the feature had become unable to access. A mobile service technician was sent to the contact's workplace, and the contact was informed that the repair needed to be performed at a service center. The contact stated that a service appointment was not scheduled in a timely manner and the contact had become fearful of driving the vehicle. The vehicle was not repaired. The failure mileage was approximately 1,100.
NHTSA complaint 11631592One month into the lease, car had a coolant failure. The windshield defog is not working. Unable to heat windshield, so can’t safely drive car in the morning and night. Car went into a limp mode. The car is less of responsive to speed changes.
NHTSA complaint 11631402Car was in park and shifted by itself in Neutral which caused it to roll back
NHTSA complaint 11631376The contact called on behalf of a client who owned a 2024 Vinfast VF8 Eco. The contact stated that the client was driving on a neighborhood street at 30 MPH, approaching an intersection, and attempting to stop, the brake pedal was depressed however the vehicle failed to come to a stop. As a result, the vehicle crashed into another vehicle that was stopped in front. There was no property damage. The air bags deployed. The vehicle was towed to the contact's residence. It was unknown if any warning lights illuminated. A police report was not filed. The vehicle was destroyed. The client sustained unknown injuries that required medical attention. It was unknown if anyone else was injured. The local unknown dealer was contacted. The manufacturer was notified of the failure. The failure mileage was unknown.
NHTSA complaint 11626939Lane keep assist is not able to detect curves and bend, and it tries to pull on the opposite lane instead keep it in the center of the lane. It is hard to override the steering input.
NHTSA complaint 11618204The advanced driver assistance systems , specifically lane departure and emergency steering control system engaged with out warning and caused forced automated steering control. The car swerved rapidly right and left in the lane causing violent body roll and loss of control of the vehicle. Attempts to manually control the steering only made the issue worse . The adas system just added more force . Emergency braking was required to disconnect the assisted steering . The steering control is turned on by default on each start up of the car. So it's active each time the car is driven . Conditions were dry road , two lanes , one direction each way .line markings only in center of road , none on outer edge s. Speed 80 kmph lane keep assist engaged by default. Refer to NHSTSA ID NUMBER 11579510 MARCH 26 2024. The report describes exactly what happened to the vehicle . The Adas can't detect the lane on the highway causing sudden and random steering correction and over correction. This is a documented issue with the NHTSA
