On Wednesday, September 23, at around 7:00 AM, as I was driving on the northbound 163 Freeway in San Diego, my car suddenly lost power and began gradually limping to a staggering 10 mph speed among all the rest of the cars whizzing by me at 70 mph. The dashboard displayed a message that said “charging incomplete, try another charger” in spite of the fact that my battery was shown to be 80% full. At 10 mph, I could barely control the vehicle to get it more safely toward the shoulder of the road. I immediately activated the in-vehicle SOS system, but a tow truck did not arrive for about 80 minutes, during which I sat exposed on the shoulder of an active freeway.
