I own a 2015 Chevrolet Silverado 3500HD Duramax diesel. At approximately 130,000 miles, the high-pressure CP4 fuel pump failed internally, sending metal shavings throughout the fuel system and contaminating major components. The truck suddenly lost power on the freeway and became inoperable without warning. I was barely able to get out of traffic before it had to be towed to a Chevrolet dealership. This created a serious safety hazard, especially considering the risk if it had happened while towing my fifth wheel with my family. A failure like this should not happen at this mileage on a heavy-duty diesel truck. I also cannot afford the extremely high cost of repairing the entire fuel system. From my research, many other owners have experienced the same CP4 fuel pump failure, which often destroys the entire fuel system and leads to very expensive repairs. I believe this is a widespread defect, not normal wear and tear. I ask NHTSA to review these failures and take action to protect vehicle owners from similar dangerous and costly failures. This truck currently sits at the dealership as I cannot afford the repairs and GM will not fix what they know is faulty parts.
NHTSA complaint 11751378Truck was operating on the highway at highway speed. Suddenly the truck went into a drastic engine power reduction mode and severe automatic downshifting occurred; the truck came to a complete stop on the highway. Diagnostics proved to be a CP4 injector pump failure sending metal into the fuel system, needing a complete contamination kit and new CP3 pump conversion. This apparently is a known defect in GM vehicles and should have been recalled.
NHTSA complaint 11751129The 2nd stage of this truck was not completed and the title was done in fraud in 2015 by Jon Hall Chevy in Daytona. I need this inspected as it shouldn't be on the road. Only 1 MCO without water Marks on it. this is a 2 stage truck should have 2. but nope only one we are getting the run around.
NHTSA complaint 11718995Catastrophic failure of the CP4 fuel pump
NHTSA complaint 11698006Exhaust filter plugged due to turbo not working properly. Been at dealership going on 7 weeks This is the 3rd new vehicle we have had this has happened to.
NHTSA complaint 11697982The contact owns a 2015 Chevrolet Silverado 3500. The contact stated that while driving 65 MPH, the message "Fuel Filter Needed to be Replaced" followed by the "Engine Power Reduced" were displayed on the instrument panel. The contact then stated that fuel started leaking from the vehicle and the vehicle stalled. The contact was left stranded in the middle of the road; a tow truck was called, and the vehicle was towed to an independent diesel mechanic. The mechanic performed a diagnostic test, and the contact was informed that the fuel pump had disintegrated which caused debris from the fuel pump to leak into the fuel system. The contact was provided an estimate to replace the fuel pump, fuel pump filter, fuel pump housing, and the fuel injectors. The manufacturer was notified of the failure and referred the contact to the NTHSA Hotline to file a complaint. The vehicle had yet to be repaired. The failure mileage was approximately 270,000.
NHTSA complaint 11666246A rear defrost system malfunctioned and was smoking in the interior of the vehicle followed by the rear glass shattering. The electrical malfunction could have easily started a fire and glass flying around the cab a highway speeds could definitely be hazard. I called the dealership and they were unconcerned and gave me a quote to replace it. the dealer or the aftermarket glass replacement company have not heard of it happening. I did find a recall in Canada. Strangely enough mine was done in Canada and it happened again.
NHTSA complaint 11652076The contact owns a 2015 Chevrolet Silverado 3500. The contact stated that while the vehicle was parked, the contact noticed that the instrument panel was inoperable. The contact stated that the instrument panel failed to function properly while attempting to activate the windshield wiper. The vehicle was taken to the dealer, where it was diagnosed that the fuse block had failed and needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. The approximate failure mileage was 5,100.
NHTSA complaint 11647041The brake pedal pivot bolt nut loosened itself and came off of the bolt, allowing the bolt to back out of the pedal mount and the brake pedal fell out of position and became lodged behind the accelerator pedal. Thankfully no accident occurred. After performing research with local dealer and independent repair shop it was found to be an obvious repeat failure of the General Motors safety recall #20760E already performed on the vehicle. I reached out to GM customer support who were rude and I received no help in the matter. Can provide more information upon request.
NHTSA complaint 11643118Cooper Discoverer STT Pro (LT295/55R20/10). Driving south bout on Meadowbrook State Parkway about 1/2 mile north of the Southern State Parkway in New York State (Long Island) when a catstrophic failure of the front right tire occurred without warning or provocation. Tires were about 18 months old and had about 25000 miles on them. All traffic was at extreme risk with the sudden blow out at highway speed. The tire failed in its entirety becoming completely separated! I struggled to maintain control of the vehicle while avoiding contact with other vehicles barely managing to get off the road. This tire was most likely defective and should not have failed. The vehicle was towed with the help of AAA to Mavis Discount tire who replaced the tires with a different brand. The seller and manufacturer customer service was god awful and didn't care. All four tires had to be replaced. NO warning indicators were present at any time. The cause of the catastrophic failure is unknown but like I said the tire appears to have been defective. There was no contact or damage prior to the failure. I have pictures of the failed tire.
NHTSA complaint 11629460Bosch CP4 fuel pump failed 400 miles from home leaving us stranded. We were towed in and spent thousands of dollars and 5 weeks to have the truck repaired. Only warning was that the truck was losing power and barely got off the road.
NHTSA complaint 11590505CP4 fuel pump failed while driving 250 miles from home. It was towed in and diagnosed, resulting in over $12,000.00 Dollars to replace fuel system due to metal pumped into fuel system. The mechanic sent the pump back as a core charge. We were stranded and freezing with our dog and towed in after several hours. The only warning was the vehicle was reducing power and I was able to get off the highway.
NHTSA complaint 115882402015 CHEVY 3500 HD HAS 65,XXX MILES ON IT CURRENTLY. TRUCK PERIODICALLY AND USUALLY RANDOMLY DISPLAYS A "SERVICE TRAILER BRAKE" MESSAGE WHICH CONSTANTLY GOES OFF WHEN NOTHING IS BEING TOWED. NOW ABOUT 1 IN 15 TIMES DRIVEN WILL IT NOT DISPLAY THIS MESSAGE. IVE HAD THE TOWING BRAKE MODULE REPLACED AND THAT DID NOT FIX THIS PROBLEM. I'M AT MY WITS END WITH THIS TRUCK. CHEVROLET / GMC NEED TO STEP UP AND MAKE THIS WIDELY KNOWN PROBLEM A RECALL. THANKS
NHTSA complaint 11572688As I am driving I am routinely warned about the trailer brake system with or without a trailer hooked up. It is distracting and could cause potential danger while driving. It has been going on for some time and progressively getting worse.
NHTSA complaint 11562967The contact owns a 2015 Chevrolet Silverado 3500. The contact stated while driving approximately 35 MPH, the check engine warning light illuminated. The contact had taken the vehicle to an independent mechanic where it was diagnosed and determined that the High-Pressure Fuel Pump (HPFP) needed to be replaced. The vehicle had not been repaired. The contact was advised that the HPFP were on national back order. The manufacturer had been informed of the failure. The contact researched online and related the failure to NHTSA Campaign Number: 21E101000 (Fuel System, Diesel). The failure mileage was approximately 150,000.
NHTSA complaint 11518893There are several problems I’ve noticed some I fix myself! First of all, I was driving my truck at night on the country road and all of a sudden it starts losing power shut down on me on a little road with no pull over spots in Kentucky and just dies completely. My service charging system light came on. I worked on this forever. I noticed it. All of my grounds were completely nasty and pretty much not making contact. I fix the ones that I can find only two I know there’s more, I’ve changed the generator three times and the battery once, the problem happened again and again and again the only way I can stop my truck from dying is when that light come on if I got out and I took the negative wire off of my battery and then put it back on it would run again for about another three days and then if I didn’t see it, I’m stranded very dangerous. Finally I took it to my mechanic up the road and he basically did the same things. I did something about a door switch also though not another battery another generator and he added new battery cables so far it hasn’t done it again. Now my truck when starting to slow down, it will vibrate and shake you to death. You hit a little vibration in the road say a rumble strip. This thing will shake you through the roof in about make you run into another Vehicle , also, it’s hard to fill up the gas if you have to turn the gas nozzle almost straight up and down if you’re low on gas to make it except it or you’ll be sitting there for 30 minutes putting gas in your truck. I noticed also all of my wheels are having rough spots on them everywhere and they are rusting into . Another thing that happens this truck eats breaks for breakfast. I have put in the past two years at least have the change the brakes, calipers rotors and all twice a year sometimes three times a year. Also, the trailer brake system light comes on nonstop along with a service stability track on when happen. No Wasey no cruise control. I am a masterelect. Maintain truck it ju
NHTSA complaint 11500067The contact owns a 2015 Chevrolet Silverado 3500. The contact stated that while towing a camper, the brakes locked up. The service trailer brake system message was displayed. There was an abnormal beeping noise detected and the instrument cluster was flashing. While driving approximately 60 MPH, the vehicle was vibrating. The vehicle was taken to the local dealer but the mechanic was unable to duplicate the failure. The vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. The vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic but the mechanic was unable to assist. The manufacturer was not contacted. The failure mileage was approximately 1,000.
