I am reporting a recurring transmission/drivetrain problem that I believe may warrant investigation for a potential safety defect. Beginning in approximately May 2026, my vehicle developed a pronounced hard bump/jerk and shudder during transmission operation. The problem initially occurred primarily in 3rd, 4th and 5th gears and became more noticeable after the vehicle warmed up. The condition was significant enough that I took the vehicle to Genesis of Columbia/Silver’s Hyundai for diagnosis. On June 1, 2026, at approximately 90,223 miles, the dealer documented that they had “verified concern” and that the “transmission needs to be replaced due to internal failure.” The transmission replacement was initially declined by my vehicle service contract administrator, and only the torque converter was authorized. The dealer replaced the torque converter but documented that the condition was only more intermittent and that the vehicle “will still need transmission as originally diagnosed.” In August/September 2026, the transmission and torque converter were replaced but bump remained. The dealer then identified a bent front propeller shaft and replaced that as well. The vehicle continued to have drivetrain-related bump as before causing problems with acceleration. The dealer later raised a concern about different tire tread depths/patterns for first time after 8 weeks. The tires were the tires that came on the vehicle when I purchased it. The dealer told me that the tire condition “could cause a problem later.” I subsequently had the tires measured elsewhere, with tread depths of approximately 5/32” and 8/32” on two tires. I purchased 4 new tires and the problem got worse Of particular concern, a dealer employee also told me by text that they had “other G80 here with same problem that need transmissions.” I am not claiming that this statement establishes how many vehicles are affected only information that may warrant further investigation.
NHTSA complaint 11767774PARKING VEHICLE AT 5MPH BRAKES DID NOT WORK, AND CAR SHOT FORWARD-HIT STEEL POST.
NHTSA complaint 11723502UNKNOWN AIR CONDITIONER WORKS WELL FOR ABOUT 1 HOUR, THEN SUDDENLY THERE'S A FUNNY NOISE AND THE HEAT COMES OUT INSTEAD OF COLD AIR. WE HAVE INFORMED GENESIS DEALER ABOUT THE PROBLEM, BUT THEY SAID IT WOULD NOT BE COVERED UNDER WARRANTY. WE HAVE SEEN MULTIPLE REPORTS OF THIS ISSUE BUT GENESIS HAS NOT ISSUED A RECALL FOR THIS POTENTIALLY DANGEROUS AND HAZARDOUS PROBLEM.
NHTSA complaint 11718649There is a recall on my 2020 Genesis g80 3.3t regarding a faulty turbo oil feed pipe causing the car to leak oil and a safety risk that could cause a fire. Vehicle had no issues prior to me having towed to Genesis north of Cincinnati other than the supply pipe leaking oil. The next day after them performing repairs on my vehicle I receive a text as well as an email stating that my service is complete. In the text message it states that my car is complete and is ready to be picked up but the car is now leaking coolant and the oil leak is not repaired. Genesis did not properly repair the issue and is still leaking oil. Repair includes work done to the coolant system being bled annd refilled with coolant . Now my car is also leaking coolant after them attempting repairs
NHTSA complaint 11706952AC stops working while driving on hot days, airflow stops and the situation is very dangerous. Tried to get the dealer to fix it, to no avail. I've been dealing with this dangerous (temperatures reached more than 110 F, without airflow) problem for two years. We are more than 20 owners of these luxury cars experiencing the same problem. I can provide their names and VINs upon request.
NHTSA complaint 11661056AC stops running during very hot days, air flow stops and heat inside the car gets dangerously high. There are multiple complaints about this in a Genesis blog, and dealers are unable to reproduce the problem to find the problem. I contacted Genesis America and they cannot do anything because service technicians are unable to diagnose the problem. Genesis MUST do something about this. I can provide snapshots of the blog with the multiple complaints. This started sometime in the 2023 summer.
NHTSA complaint 11619676It is dead everyday and I have to jump it I noticed when I attach a power source it makes very odd noises. I feel the current recall you have on the g80 2020 may be the issue. It runs extremely hot wit no warning lights showing. I have had a lot of brake dust and the car is hot fast. Also issues with usb and when connected to phone it sound like crackling and volume sounds odd unless I unplug and replug. Replaced battery twice in a year
NHTSA complaint 11587698The contact owns a 2020 Genesis G80. The contact stated that upon starting the vehicle, the check engine warning light was illuminated. The vehicle was taken to the dealer where it was diagnosed that rodents had chewed through the soy-based wire coating. The vehicle was repaired; however, the failure reoccurred. The vehicle was taken back to the dealer who provided the same diagnostic and repaired the vehicle; however, the failure persisted. The vehicle was taken back to dealer where it was diagnosed that rodents had also chewed through the starter wiring. The vehicle was repaired. The manufacturer was not notified of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 12,000.
NHTSA complaint 11459848We took the vehicle in for the ABS recall on the 2020 Genesis G80 [XXX] The Dealer changed the Fuses and told me the fuses where changed from a 10 amp to a 20 amp fuse. This seems to be the wrong way to go for a defective ABS module. Then they told me it is ok to park the car in the garage. INFORMATION Redacted PURSUANT TO THE FREEDOM OF INFORMATION ACT (FOIA), 5 U.S.C. 552(B)(6).

NHTSA complaint 11436054The vehicle has 11,000 miles on it. I just drove from Boston, MA to Scranton, PA on Thursday 6/24/21. There were no issues and I did not hit any pot holes. On Friday morning we started driving and 3-4 miles away going about 40 mph, we noticed a problem on the right front. I pulled over and we noticed the tire was flat. I called triple A and took the car to a tire repair shop. The sidewall was worn all around the perimeter of the tire and it had a hole in the sidewall. I also noticed a bubble on the left front tire, thus both tires were replaced. I notified Continental and opened a claim with them.
NHTSA complaint 11422513Technical service bulletins and other notices the manufacturer sent to dealers. A bulletin is not a recall.
