The entire Honda Sensing driver-assist safety suite has failures that shows on the dash all at the same time. All at once non of the safety features work which is extremely dangerous while driving. The component in question is the front sensor camera located behind the rear view mirror mounted on the front windshield. This sensor camera is the core optical component for the entire driver assist safety suite.
NHTSA complaint 11768343I was driving forward in the left lane, no cars in front of me. A garbage truck parked in the middle yellow lane to my left, a moving city bus on my right lane, but they were a bit further back, not driving next to me. There was a cae behind me. Was going at 25mph, then suddenly the automatic brake stopped my car. I didn’t understand why. It happened for a good 3 seconds. Then I was able to continue forward. So scary!!! No one close to my left or right or in front of me. The car behind me almost hit me because of the automatic brake.
NHTSA complaint 11766460The trunk on the van will close on its own. It does give a warning by beeping, but it’s happened at least half a dozen times. When the trunk comes down it happens quickly and has hit multiple people in the head. It’s very heavy too.
NHTSA complaint 11765666My van stalled twice and the 2nd one we need to have it towed to the dealership. The first time it stalled, we thought its only the battery and was able to run again. But the 2nd time it wont turn on even the batteries are good. The dealership diagnose it as the start/stop mechanism of the van due to the "eco" function (it stops the vehicle running when it is stop while driving) and they said that because of this they replaced the starter assembly. They even told my husband verbally that they had been getting repairs with the same issue. After they were repaired the technician verbally instructed my husband not to use the "eco function" because of the risk of stalling or breaking the starter assembly again. I learned that other Honda model such as Ridgeline and Pilot have a safety recall but why they did not include Odyssey? We have to pay out of pocket for the repairs that we did not expect coming from a good vehicle and also I bought this van brand new so I didnt expect that it will have this kind of problem at around 90K miles (my Toyota Highlander is still running at 150K!). I believe that all Honda vehicle that has start/stop "eco function" should have a safety recall, due to the fact that it can stall anytime and anywhere even when driving. Although my starter assembly had been replaced I am still anxious about this because it can lead to an accident. This is supposed to be a "family van" and Honda needs to prioritize SAFETY and RELIABILITY for a family van.
NHTSA complaint 11764590There’s been several incidences but the most recent one was today. While idling, my car fills up with a gas/exhaust smell. It happens intermittently but it has happened 4 times in the last week. If I shut the recirculate mode off, the smell will start to go away till I turn the recirculate back on. After further investigation, there’s several people with this issue as Honda odyssey owners. Problem has been reproduced several times on my own, however I will be taking to a dealership next week.
NHTSA complaint 11764543Exploding SunRoof: I was driving on the east bound 2020 freeway about 65 mph. There were no taller cars or trucks around, no overpass. All of a sudden there as a huge bang. The glass of the sunroof had exploded. It has not been used in 2 years. I cannot think of anything that could have caused it. I have only opened the sunroof once back in 2024 when I got the vehicle just to see what it was like; I haven't used it since then. When I stopped, it looked like a basketball and gone through the glass. I can't image how dangerous it would have been if the inside cover had been opened and the glass had sprayed the car. I did not get a picture of it. I drove directly to State Farm and they looked at it an approved the repair without photos.
NHTSA complaint 11762246The engine fails to restart on its own after the Auto Idle Stop (auto start/stop) system shuts it off at a stop. When this occurs the vehicle is left without power and I must shift to Park and restart the engine manually with the ignition button. This has happened while I was stopped at an intersection in traffic, leaving the vehicle disabled in a live lane until I could restart it. This is a serious safety hazard — the vehicle cannot move when traffic begins to move, and it cannot be moved out of the path of cross traffic. Honda's service campaign remedy for this condition (PGM-FI software update) was performed on my vehicle in March 2025. The failure recurred after that repair and has continued for approximately nine months. On [XXX] I returned to the selling dealer (Bob Rohrman Honda, Lafayette, Indiana, RO #[XXX]) and was charged $170 for diagnosis. The technician road-tested the vehicle, performed a battery test, and reported that the system was operating correctly with "no problem found." No cause was identified and the condition was not corrected. The failure has continued to occur since that visit. My vehicle is within the scope of NHTSA Engineering Analysis EA25004. I am filing this report because my vehicle demonstrates the specific pattern cited in that investigation: the failure persisting after the manufacturer's service campaign repair was completed. My family, including a teenage driver, operates this vehicle. INFORMATION REDACTED PURSUANT TO THE FREEDOM OF INFORMATION ACT (FOIA), 5 U.S.C. 552(B)(6)
NHTSA complaint 11758668I have pictures, but come to find out 2018-2024 odysseys have rear shocks that come apart at the top weld. The shock never got painted originally and they rot under the rubber boot and cause the shock to come apart into two pieces. Which causes the rear of the van to become “loose” I. Turns and bumps . Honda knows about this issue but does nothing about it
NHTSA complaint 11756757The contact owns a 2022 Honda Odyssey. The contact stated that on several occasions while the vehicle was parked, the passenger’s side door was opened, and the passenger’s side mirror fell off the vehicle. The vehicle was taken to a dealer on approximately four occasions, and it was determined that the mirror glass needed to be replaced. The vehicle was repaired each time. The contact believed that the failure was associated with NHTSA Campaign Number: 23V174000 (Visibility). The manufacturer was notified of the failure. The failure mileage was 38,000.
NHTSA complaint 11756665The contact owns a 2022 Honda Odyssey. The contact stated that while driving over bumps, the vehicle made an abnormal, increasingly loud squeaking sound. The vehicle was taken to a dealer, where the failure was identified as a defective driver’s side rear coil spring that required replacement; however, the part was on backorder. The vehicle was not repaired and remained in the dealer's possession. The manufacturer was notified of the failure, and a case was filed. The failure mileage was approximately 44,000.
NHTSA complaint 11749009The contact owns a 2022 Honda Odyssey. The contact stated that during a State Inspection, the contact was informed that the rear coil springs and shocks were fractured. The vehicle was taken to the dealer, who determined that the rear coil springs and shocks needed to be replaced; however, the parts were on back order. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure but declined to provide further assistance because the vehicle had not received the oil change services at the dealer. The failure mileage was approximately 36,800.
NHTSA complaint 11746648While child was seated in the rear right second-row seat of a 2022 Honda Odyssey Touring, the seat belt became stuck and jammed, trapping the child in the car seat. Multiple attempts were made to release the child but the seat belt mechanism would not release. The child became distressed and complained of difficulty breathing. As an emergency measure, the child car seat had to be physically cut and destroyed to free the child. The vehicle was subsequently taken to the dealer. The dealer confirmed that the rear right second-row seat belt was found cut in half and that the seat frame had to be replaced. Dealer stated the belt mechanism tested normal during post-incident inspection but was unable to reproduce the entrapment condition. The seat belt tensioner is suspected of having gotten stuck, causing the entrapment. This is a serious child safety incident involving potential entrapment and breathing distress in the second-row seating area.
NHTSA complaint 11741904The contact owns a 2022 Honda Odyssey. The contact stated while driving at an undisclosed speed, the driver side air bag deployed however, the vehicle was not in a crash. No warning lights were illuminated. The vehicle was taken back to the residence. The vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. The manufacturer was notified of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 63,000.
NHTSA complaint 11736652I went to open back tailgate with key fob, no sound or anything - tailgate did not open. I tried inside vehicle buttons for back tailgate and would not respond - no sounds or anything. Nothing was obstructing the back gate on the outside or interior of vehicle to prevent it from opening. I found a video of a 2021 Odyssey having water leaks into the car from the sliding door and rusts the power module causing it to short. So, my husband opened the back fuse box and got into the back panel and removed and sure enough there is water damage to the module. It is about $400 to replace and it is only a Honda dealership part. This is a safety issue because there is no way to manually open back tailgate in case of an emergency. If water is slowly leaking and causing corrosion, this needs to be fixed by Honda.
NHTSA complaint 11735295The contact owns a 2022 Honda Odyssey. The contact stated that while driving on the highway at approximately 40 MPH, the collision mitigation braking system engaged erroneously. The dealer was contacted; however, the vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. The manufacturer was not notified of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 51,250.
NHTSA complaint 11735075When vehicle was stopped, a loud metallic snap occurred and the back end of the minivan rocked. Van was taken in to get checked and the rear driver spring was broken. Both rear springs and shocks were replaced. Vehicle only has 51,054 miles and mechanics said springs should last much longer. Also, same day that this van was take in for service, the mechanics told me that another 2022 Honda Odyssey had just come in with the exact same problem.
NHTSA complaint 11733794I am reporting a recurring and dangerous failure of the infotainment system and electrical control in my vehicle. The following issues occur intermittently but frequently: Safety Camera Failure: The center display screen often goes black, causing the backup camera and side-view cameras to fail completely. This occurs while the vehicle is in reverse, creating a significant blind-spot hazard and risk of collision. I specifically visited the dealership in early June 2025 to inquire about this issue—and I have video evidence to prove it—yet the electronic fault "magically disappeared" (an intermittent issue) when the vehicle was inspected on-site. Despite this, the dealership still charged me a $300 diagnostic fee. Total System Freeze: The GPS navigation, audio system, and all center console controls frequently stop responding or shut down entirely while driving, causing significant driver distraction. Power Management Defect: Most critically, the infotainment system and audio often fail to shut off even after the engine is turned off and the vehicle is locked. This parasitic draw continues until the 12V battery is completely drained, leaving the vehicle stranded and potentially creating an electrical fire hazard. On 03/20/2026, the infotainment system failed to shut down after the engine was turned off, which completely drained the battery. I had to call AAA for roadside assistance to tow/jump-start the vehicle to the dealership. I have a video recording of the system staying powered on while the vehicle was off. Furthermore, I just replaced the 12V battery with a brand new one in February 2026, confirming that this is a parasitic draw caused by a vehicle defect and not a faulty battery. I am unable to upload videos here, but I reserve the right to present them.
NHTSA complaint 11733176Hello I am reporting a safety concern involving a 2022 Honda Odyssey EX-L that was involved in an accident and declared a total loss. During the incident, I was driving in snowy conditions at approximately 50 mph while entering a split lane. The vehicle began to skid, and shortly afterward I observed warning indicators activating. It appeared that vehicle safety systems, including stability or braking systems, engaged automatically. Over the next several seconds, I attempted to regain control by applying the brakes multiple times and making steering corrections. However, the vehicle did not respond as expected. Despite these inputs, the vehicle continued toward the shoulder and ultimately impacted a barrier. I was unable to regain effective steering control during this period. This raises concern about the behavior and response of vehicle safety systems, including ABS (Anti-lock Braking System), Vehicle Stability Assist (VSA), and related driver-assist features during loss-of-traction conditions. Additionally, I became aware of a recall affecting similar model years related to unintended or improper curtain airbag deployment due to system sensitivity. Given that my vehicle falls within this model range, I believe it is important to evaluate whether system behavior may have contributed to the incident. I am requesting that this incident be reviewed as a potential safety issue and considered alongside similar reports to determine whether further investigation is warranted.
NHTSA complaint 11732604he driver-side power seat adjustment system is malfunctioning. When attempting to adjust the seat position, the seat adjustment motor can be heard running; however, the seat frequently becomes stuck and does not move as intended. At times, only one side of the seat moves during adjustment, causing the seat to shift unevenly or become misaligned. This condition affects the ability to properly adjust the driving position and may impact driver comfort and control of the vehicle, which could pose a safety risk while operating the vehicle. The problem occurs intermittently during normal seat adjustment. UNKNOWN if the issue has been reproduced or formally confirmed by a dealer or independent service center. The component should be available for inspection upon request. No warning lights or messages were observed prior to or during the occurrence of this issue.
NHTSA complaint 11732083When driving the ac will turn down by itself and when coming to a complete stop the car will put itself in park and the engine will shut off completely. The brake light and engine and battery light will come and the car will restart itself and stay in park or I will sometimes have to restart the car myself. The brake light started to flash on 4/16/2026. I purchased the car on 12/18/2025 to finance . The vehicle will slow down and jerk back and forth when driving at a normal speed .
NHTSA complaint 11731859Technical service bulletins and other notices the manufacturer sent to dealers. A bulletin is not a recall; the 60 most recent are listed.
