CVT Transmission judder.
NHTSA complaint 11767896Beginning 4/2025 undercarriage parts of the splash guard began breaking loose and flying off my vehicle while driving. 6/2025 the passenger wheel surround flew off while driving 60 MPH over a bridge, thank God there was no oncoming traffic. It caused damage to my tires however that I replaced. Over the last year more parts, including the drivers side wheel surround have come off while driving. I was able to go back to the roadside and pick up a piece that is roughly 26x26x7”. When I called EasternShore Nissan when this first happened I was told it is just a splash guard and no need for concerns. It doesn’t affect the drive ability of the vehicle. Now even the front bumper of my vehicle is loose and I fear it will fly off and the projectile will kill somebody. I’m very concerned for the many serious safety issues involved. I just spoke to Nissan whose first response is that my vehicle isn’t under warranty, which is an economic concern. My point is I did not purchase a Lego vehicle. Parts should not be flying off. I have nightmares from the last piece of wheel surround flying off 8/22/26 and praying that I wouldn’t wreck with my 11 year old in the car, that the cars behind me wouldn’t get hit, wouldn’t wreck trying to avoid it, and I wouldn’t have to buy another $500 worth of tires. I went back and was able to get one of the parts and a couple of days later got a photo of a long part on someone’s property. This needs investigation. It can’t be normal for a vehicle to fly apart. I live very rurally and honestly never considered contacting Nissan again after being told it wasn’t a concern. I went to a mechanic about repairs and he suggested I file a report first while he gets info on parts.
NHTSA complaint 11762159The transfer case on my Nissan Murano developed an oil leak. a leaking transfer case that is low or complete loss can cause overheating, internal damage or sudden failure of the transfer case while driving, resulting in a loss of power to the wheels, unexpected vehicle deceleration, loss of all-wheel drive capability increasing the risk of crash creating a safety hazard. no warnings from the car are giving that this is happening, so a sudden loss of control can happen at any time. service fee from Nissan accumulates to 4,000 for replacement or 2,000 for re-seal. there is a TSB regarding the sealing of the transfer case.
NHTSA complaint 11754887While driving down the highway 5/10/26, the vehicle completely shut down at 75 MPH. The dash went black, everything shut down, and the steering wheel locked. No warning lights came on. I immediately hit the brakes and tried to veer to the right. Luckily, I was in the right lane and was able to get to the edge of the shoulder. My son and I sat there in shock. A few seconds later, I hit the ignition button, and the vehicle started right back up. My son and I were terrified by this. We could have been killed by someone hitting us.
NHTSA complaint 11736981This statement is to the best of my knowledge. I was driving my 2015 Nissan Murano and when I was almost back to mine [XXX] house the transmission stopped working. I took it and had it towed over Gilman Nissan in Rosenberg. I have a warranty on it through endurance warranty company. They came and inspect the transmission. They indicated that the transmission fell, but also I know that Nissan recall these transmission on the CVT which is going out. The warranty company indicated that the CVT inside the transmission fell. Also, the alternator failed on the vehicle. They indicating that the all drip from somewhere on to the alternator was made. The alternator fail but I look on the website and I also noticed that if the alternator go out in these 2015 Nissan Murano it's messed up the transmission. So this need to be looking into and taking care cuz I believe they card not telling the real truth on what's going on with this transmission and the reason I couldn't get my car repaired because the mileage has already passed and I got mine recall letter real late INFORMATION REDACTED PURSUANT TO THE FREEDOM OF INFORMATION ACT (FOIA), 5 U.S.C. 552(B)(6)
NHTSA complaint 11725576Summary of Incident: On August 16, 2025, while my daughter was operating the vehicle at approximately 35 MPH, the front driver-side wheel detached entirely from the vehicle, resulting in a catastrophic loss of control and the vehicle being declared a Total Loss. Technical Details & Safety Hazard: The vehicle had undergone a comprehensive wheel and brake service at a licensed dealership, Ron Tonkin Hyundai, in Gresham, Oregon, 39 days (approx. 600 miles) prior. Post-accident inspection by an independent tow operator and mechanical review revealed: *A sheared wheel stud on the failed hub, which dealership service management later admitted was "likely over-torqued" during service, leading to latent metal fatigue. * A systemic failure of wheel mounting: Lug nuts on the other three remaining wheels were found to be loose or missing. Safety Risk: This incident represents a critical safety failure. The detachment of a wheel at speed poses a life-threatening risk to the occupants and other motorists. The systemic nature of the loose hardware suggests either a failure in service procedures, a defect in the lug/stud hardware compatibility, or improper torque specifications being applied to this model. I am reporting this to ensure a record of this structural failure is maintained should it be part of a larger pattern of hardware fatigue or service negligence.
NHTSA complaint 11714597On Saturday, December 6, 2025 my [XXX] mother and I were driving back to my mom’s Saint Peters, Missouri home around 5:15 pm. I had just exited Missouri Highway 364 at Woodstone/Jungermann Road. I turned right onto Woodstone and heard a thud/clunk. Never heard that sound before. One hundred yards later, the 2015 Murano stopped accelerating right in the middle of the road. I put it in Park, Neutral and then Drive. Nothing. The vehicle wouldn’t go forward. It did engage in Reverse so I was able to back it to the side of road and out of the line of traffic. I again put the vehicle in Park, Neutral and then Drive. The vehicle wouldn’t go forward. I went back to the cargo area to retrieve my purse so I could access my AAA card and have the vehicle towed (first time in 50 years of driving I had to have a vehicle towed). I tried again to put the vehicle in Drive and it did engage this time and I was able to drive it the three to four miles to my mom’s house. Had the sudden loss of power happened ONE MINUTE before on the highway, the outcome would have been much different. It upsets me even now to think what could have occurred if the Murano suddenly stopped in the middle of the highway. I was in the second lane of the highway and could not get to the side of the highway. I would not be able to abandon the vehicle in the middle of the dark highway since my mom would not be able to exit it without her wheelchair and there was a high probability we would have gotten struck by other vehicles and/or caused a major pile up behind us. I took it to the local Nissan dealer and they confirmed the CVT transmission went out in the 2015 Murano with 131,000 miles. What makes me even more upset is that it is a KNOWN defect on the CVT and has been for so long. My mom and I could have been killed on the highway since the vehicle stopped in the middle of it. NHTSA complaint 11712482Odometer Fraud. The contact purchased a 2015 Nissan Murano. The contact discovered a mileage discrepancy after the purchase. The vehicle was a private sale. At the time of purchase, the vehicle mileage was 80,300. It was later discovered that the mileage on Carvana was 179,690 on November 9, 2025.
NHTSA complaint 11704102The vehicle has only 55k miles , but the Front subframe bushings and front lower control arm bushings are worn out causing safety issues.
NHTSA complaint 11676180My vehicle stop on the highway. Jut cut off out of nowhere. And has been cutting off and losing power. I replaced the battery which I thought was the problem. Then I thought it was the alternator so I took it to nissan to have a diagnostic and they said it was not and that no codes came up that a positive battery cable had to be replaced. I was charged 342 for a diagnostic and to change a cable. They told me to pick up my vehicle and got home it was still cutting off. I took it to O'Reilly they said it was the alternator. Nissan just took my money. Also they printed out a list of other problems that were not addressed or need be repair on this vehicle that i purchased at 118,000 miles. I dont even drive this vehicle to have all these part to have yo be replaced. The powers steering is leaking and the air bag and seat belt light appears to stay on.
NHTSA complaint 11671154The contact owns a 2015 Nissan Murano. The contact stated that while driving at 5 MPH, the vehicle shuddered, and the check engine warning light illuminated. The vehicle intermittently returned to normal functionality. The contact checked the transmission fluid and noticed the fluid was burnt and emitted a foul odor. The contact found metal shavings inside the transmission fluid pan. The contact who is a mechanic used a Thinkcar Scanner and retrieved DTC: P17F1. The vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. The failure had progressively worsened, and the vehicle was no longer driven and remained parked at the residence. The manufacturer was not notified of the failure. The failure mileage was 69,000.
NHTSA complaint 11668612Error P17F1 Judder Code. This is a known issue and my VIN is not covered under a recall when this is a known issue due to the ongoing CVT transmission lawsuit.
NHTSA complaint 11663565My transmission is on recall the CVT transmission is malfunctioning The transmission flutters and shudders loses power in slow motion when starting to pull off from lights or going up heels, there’s a slipping, feel to the transmission very unsafe to drive during wet, rainy days and snowy days some days absolute power loss this has been a problem since I purchased a vehicle in 2021 until current and it’s getting worse every day I was told about a Nissan Dealership this is just how the transmission shift. I know this information is incorrect because it’s very unsafe to drive.
NHTSA complaint 11660191The car starts up the electrical on the dashboard ABS warning light comes on if the car starts it might start right off and drive just fine but then it shuts down into limp mode .
NHTSA complaint 11660174The contact owns a 2015 Nissan Murano. The contact stated that while his wife was driving 40 MPH, the vehicle lost motive power and stalled. There was no warning light illuminated. The driver was able to pull over to the side of the road. The vehicle was towed to the dealer; however, no cause for the failure was found, and the vehicle was not repaired. On a separate occasion, the vehicle failed to start. The contact stated that his wife waited for a while before the vehicle restarted. The contact stated that when his wife arrived home, the vehicle stalled. The vehicle was towed to the dealer; however, no cause for the failure was found. No repairs were performed. NHTSA complaint 11649085Loss power i ,studding had a overheating in transmissonsounds whinning , bumps, locking up hesatation sudden lurching at home in driveway.
NHTSA complaint 11634460When trying to merge onto the interstate, the car didn't accelerate, causing other vehicles on the road to swerve around me. Afterwards, I noticed that the car was shaking or juddering at low revs (about 1,000 RPM). I internet searched for possible causes and found that this shaking was caused by a known problem with the CVT on my car (Nissan Murano). I bought the car (a 2015 Nissan Murano AWD SL) in 2018 as a certified pre-owned vehicle only used by that Nissan dealership, it now has 63,841 miles on it. I needed the vehicle so I had the transmission replaced (I was told that 'fixing' the problem was not an option), at a cost of $7,157.19. There was no warning, no lights on the dash, etc. I had also just had the car serviced at the dealership (on 8/3/24, which cost me $2,618.55) where they replaced the CVT fluid as part of the service. I'm just lucky that the transmission didn't fail while I was actually going at a higher speed. Nissan needs to recall and/or replace these transmissions.
NHTSA complaint 11624512Car shut off while driving 60 miles per hour on the hwy. Battery light was on but I just had it checked and it was good. Seat belt light was also on but I had mine on and there were no other passengers. The collision light has repeatedly come on and off since I bought the vehicle new.
NHTSA complaint 11618020The contact owns a 2015 Nissan Murano. The contact stated that while driving at an undisclosed speed, the vehicle jerked and hesitated, after which the vehicle lost motive power. The driver was able to pull over to the shoulder of the roadway, where the vehicle was able to restart but was unable to shift into drive or reverse. The check engine warning light was illuminated. The vehicle was taken to the dealer, who determined that the CVT transmission fluid needed to be flushed. The vehicle was repaired, but the failure reoccurred. The manufacturer was not notified of the failure. The failure mileage was 204,000.
NHTSA complaint 11616023Technical service bulletins and other notices the manufacturer sent to dealers. A bulletin is not a recall; the 60 most recent are listed.
