My mom was driving my 2024 Ram 1500 Limited equipped with eTorque and was coming to a stop. While decelerating, the vehicle suddenly and unexpectedly accelerated forward without her intentionally pressing the accelerator pedal. She immediately applied the brakes in an attempt to stop the vehicle, but I was unable to stop it before the vehicle struck a brick building. The collision caused damage to the front of my vehicle and substantial damage to the building’s brick exterior wall. The acceleration was unexpected and occurred while she was attempting to slow/stop the vehicle. I am concerned that an electronic throttle, powertrain, eTorque/48-volt system, braking, software, or other vehicle malfunction may have contributed to the incident. The exact cause has not yet been determined. I am requesting that this incident be documented and investigated as a potential vehicle safety defect.
NHTSA complaint 11766622I am reporting a catastrophic, cascading electrical and mechanical safety defect involving the central electronic network, hydraulic braking system, and the supplemental restraint system (SRS) on a 2024 Ram TRX.In the week leading up to the collision, the vehicle exhibited persistent electrical anomalies, specifically where the primary display screen/infotainment system would suddenly crash and go completely black while operating. On the day of the incident, while traveling at approximately 55 mph, I attempted to apply the brakes to avoid an obstacle. The brake pedal immediately went completely soft and "spongy," providing no adequate hydraulic pressure or braking force to slow the truck.Due to this sudden braking failure, the vehicle sustained a severe, high-velocity front-end collision. The driver was properly wearing their seat belt at the exact time of impact. Despite massive front-end structural deformation directly inside the vehicle's primary sensor zones, the steering wheel, knee, and side curtain airbags completely failed to deploy. Due to this non-deployment during a high-speed impact, the driver sustained head trauma and was knocked unconscious. The vehicle subsequently rolled over, coming to a final rest overturned on its right side. The vehicle’s event data recorder (EDR) data buffer was later overwritten during subsequent post-crash handling/ignition cycles before data could be locked. The prior display blackouts combined with a simultaneous loss of braking pressure and restraint system failure strongly point to a systemic CAN bus or module power failure. I request a formal federal investigation into the electrical architecture, braking modules, and airbag control module (ACM) thresholds for this vehicle class.
NHTSA complaint 11766200I am filing this complaint regarding my 2024 Ram 1500 and unresolved defects that I reported while the vehicle was still covered by the bumper-to-bumper warranty. My primary concern is the steering and handling. I reported multiple times that the steering wheel is crooked, the truck pulls to the left, and the vehicle does not drive or track correctly. These complaints began before the bumper-to-bumper warranty expired. I was told that the vehicle needed an alignment and four new tires. I followed those recommendations and paid for both, but the problem never went away. The issue has now become a serious safety concern. At highway speeds, the front end wobbles and shakes significantly. I am concerned about the safety and stability of the vehicle and believe the steering, suspension, or other front-end components need to be properly inspected and diagnosed. Stellantis and the dealership now appear to be relying on the fact that the bumper-to-bumper warranty has expired, even though I began reporting and attempting to repair this same problem while the warranty was still active. The truck has also had issues with the sunroof/headliner, Uconnect system, and driver-side window button, but my main concern is the unresolved steering and front-end problem. I am requesting that Stellantis fully diagnose and repair this previously reported defect at no cost to me and provide an appropriate remedy if the vehicle cannot be safely and permanently repaired.
NHTSA complaint 11764960There’s a piece of the molding on the dashboard that is made of shiny material. It becomes blinding when the sun hits it daily. It’s because the material it’s made of that makes it unsafe to drive.
NHTSA complaint 11764538The contact owns a 2024 Ram 1500. The contact stated that while driving approximately 45 MPH, the vehicle intermittently stalled and failed to return to normal operation. The braking, electronic stability control, and battery warning lights were illuminated. The failure had occurred on several occasions. NHTSA complaint 11755519The driveshaft boot fell apart or came loose and contacted the emission system exhaust piping and eventually caught on fire. The whole underside was in flames and it was extinguished by the passengers. The unit could have completely caught on fire as the gas tank is close by. Killing the passengers and igniting the mountainside on fire. The vehicle will be towed to a dealership for inspection by the insurance company and the dealership.
NHTSA complaint 11741964Vehicle failed state inspection w less than 24,000 miles due to excessive rear brake wear. Brake pad wear was significantly greater and failed inspection on the piston side of the brake pads potentially indicating failure or improperly functioning of electronic emergency brake.
NHTSA complaint 11741482The turn signal switch activates the wipers sometimes. And sometimes the wipers ghost and run by themselves for no reason at all. This is very distracting and it has started to scratch the windshield. VERY DANGEROUS when travelling down the interstate at 70MPH and the wipers screech across the windshield all by themselves............PLEASE HELP.
NHTSA complaint 11741347While driving down the highway, the vehicle completely lost power and the driver was forced to wrestle the truck to the side of the road in traffic.
NHTSA complaint 11738779NHTSA VEHICLE SAFETY COMPLAINT Vehicle Information: - Year/Make/Model: 2024 RAM 1500 (V6 eTorque) - VIN: [XXX] - Current Mileage: ~70,000 miles - Warranty Expired: 60,000 miles - Purchased/Serviced at: Smithhaven Chrysler Jeep Dodge Ram, [XXX] Complaint Summary: I am reporting multiple recurring safety-related electrical, lighting, and drivability issues involving my 2024 RAM 1500. The vehicle has experienced repeated system failures affecting safe operation despite regular dealership maintenance, recall compliance, and scheduled service. Service and Failure History: At approximately 6,017 miles (January 12, 2024), the vehicle experienced a major electrical failure involving the wireless control module and battery system causing a no-start condition until serviced. On October 4, 2024, the vehicle received an ABS recall service and system update. On November 17, 2025, the vehicle received the 60,000-mile service including tire rotation, brake flush, coolant system service, and 27-point inspection. In 2025, a turn signal sticking issue was serviced but continues intermittently, creating a safety concern. At approximately 70,000 miles, the vehicle developed severe drivability issues including bucking, jerking, hesitation, and loss of power. Check engine light and service transmission warnings appear. Vehicle requires pulling over and restarting temporarily restores function. Safety Concerns: - Sudden loss of power - Unsafe low-speed operation - Roadside stops due to drivability failure - Turn signal malfunction risk - Prior electrical failure leaving vehicle inoperable Repair History and Response: Vehicle maintained at dealership. Stellantis case opened and partial (~80%) coverage offered but issue remains unresolved. Request: Investigation into potential safety-related defects involving electrical, drivetrain, and signaling systems. [XXX] DePinto Stellantis Case #: 96506923 INFORMATION REDACTED PURSUANT TO THE FREEDOM OF INFORMATION ACT (FOIA), 5 U.S.C. 552(B)(6)
NHTSA complaint 11737844My 2024 Ram 1500 TRX has recurring safety-related failures of the infotainment system affecting both Uconnect 5 (12” screen) and earlier Uconnect 4 units. These issues are widespread in 2021–2024 Ram TRX and Ram 1500 models and began or worsened after forced over-the-air updates. The primary defect is black-screen failures while driving. When the screen goes black or freezes, the truck loses all functions controlled through the display, including HVAC/defrost, backup camera, vehicle settings, seat controls, and performance gauges. This creates an immediate safety hazard: I cannot adjust climate/defrost, cannot see the required rear-view camera when shifting to reverse, and cannot access key vehicle information. Owners across multiple years consistently report: • Black screens, freezes, and reboots • Loss of HVAC control and dual-zone functions • Backup camera not displaying • Vehicle/Apps tabs failing to open • Uconnect error messages • Smaller, harder-to-read gauges after updates • Wireless CarPlay/Android Auto failures • No option to decline or roll back OTA updates These failures distract the driver, remove access to federally required equipment (rear camera), and eliminate visibility and climate controls that directly affect safe operation. The system becomes unpredictable and unstable despite the vehicle being in motion. My vehicle experiences the same issues, including: Cameras not working, screen freezing or blacks out, navigation failing, carplay unstable won’t stay connected or randomly drops and more. Because this affects essential safety-related controls and visibility, I believe this is a safety defect in Ram/Stellantis Uconnect 4 and Uconnect 5 systems. I request NHTSA open a defect investigation and require Ram to correct these failures.
NHTSA complaint 11735050Heater Core Windshield fogging because of antifreeze fumes interfering with the HVAC Yes the issue has been confirmed by the dealer (Sansone Ram, NJ) I wasn't sure but kept smelling antifreeze in the cabin and the front windshield was interfering with my view in front of me. This Vehicle is a 2024 Ram 1500 with approx 46000 miles, just a little out of the basic warranty but this issue is not a wear and tear issue, way to early for this vehicle to have this kind of Problem.
NHTSA complaint 11728769I'm reaching out regarding my 2024 Ram 1500 that has approximately 45,850 miles. I was smelling anti freeze while heat was in the on position, along with the driver side front windshield fogging up immensely creating a visibility issue. (definitely a SAFETY ISSUE) I've been told by Sansone Ram in NJ that the heater core/HVAC has failed. I'm very familiar with automotives and know for sure that a heater core should not fail this early on a 2024 vehicle. This is clearly a PREMATURE FAILURE it's not normal wear and tear. This truck is still relatively new, has been maintained and serviced when needed with Sansone Ram in New Jersey. This should be a RECALL, this is NOT a wear and tear item especially the car is less then 3 years old with only 46000 miles. They are charging thousands of dollars because of a manufacturer Defect.....
NHTSA complaint 11728661What component or system failed or malfunctioned, and is it available for inspection upon request? The passenger side wiper stopped wiping, the arm is not moving up and down, yes How was your safety or the safety of others put at risk? This is causing the passenger side windshield to not be cleaned impairing visibility/blind spot that would cause an accident. Has the problem been reproduced or confirmed by a dealer or independent service center? Dealer saw the issue Has the vehicle or component been inspected by the manufacturer, police, insurance representatives or others? Dealer said it would take 3 days, has not been inspected yet as this is my only work truck Were there any warning lamps, messages or other symptoms of the problem prior to the failure, and when did they first appear? N/A, wiper arm just stopped moving one day
NHTSA complaint 11718105The driver sun visor pivot arm broke while driving in very heavy traffic, and merging lanes. This cause my view forward to be complete blocked for several seconds until I could get it back into a position to successfully fold it back to its storage position. During this time I could not see any traffic, and had to turn my attention to the sun visor so to return my view of the highway. In my opinion, this put me and other drivers at risk because of 1) the period of time to remove the visor from blocking my sight, and 2) the inability to use this safety feature when it is needed. I have a video of the sun visor and how it blocked my view, but cannot upload it. Please observe closely the plastic where the sun visor retention happens, and broke. Without a design change, this will happen again. I have owned this vehicle 21 months at the time of the incident described above.
NHTSA complaint 11717875Leaving work remote start did not work as it normally did. Started with the key noticed the the red flashing lightning bolt. Shortly after the truck jerked like I was hit from behind the RPMs were all over the place. I shut the truck off started again still flashing lightning bolt traction control light was on and other messages were popping up. Service air bag service throttle control ect. Rpms were up and down on its own. Let it run foe 10 minutes shut it off started again same thing it took 1 hour before I got the light to turn off. I drove it home it ran funny like it didn't want to shift and at a stoplight with foot on the break the RPM s were still all over the place. And again the truck lurched like I was hit from behind. I made it home parked the truck called the dealership asked for a diagnostics to be done as I had an appointment for oil change and tire rotation scheduled. Service department sid there were active codes and ice buildup on the throttle body. They said there was not a fix for this and to make sure the truck gets up to temp to burn off the moisture. My drive to work is 30 minutes and I let the truck warmup t9 temp before I drive it Everytime. It has happened consistently causing me to be late for work this is a big PROBLEM and unexceptionable as it is unsafe to have a truck lurch forward on its own. Having a newer truck with 15000 miles and the best warranty availability I would think RAM would stand behind their product and make it safe and dependable. But I was told by the service department this is a known problem that RAM does not have a fix for. Trucks 2023 and older have a fix not the 2024 and newer. Being late for work because if this is not acceptable either when it takes an hour for the light to go off to be out of limp mode as well. December 16 January 12 and 13 January 30-31 Service department recommended putting heat in my garage or installing a block heater but wernt sure if either would fix the issue.
NHTSA complaint 11717575The contact owns a 2024 Ram 1500. The contact stated that while driving on the expressway at 60 MPH, the battery warning light illuminated. The vehicle then lost motive power while stopped at a stoplight. The vehicle was towed to the side of the roadway by the Police. The vehicle was then towed to the local dealer, who determined there was a failure with the 48-Volt E-Torque battery. The vehicle was restarted and was driven for a month. There were no diagnostic codes retrieved. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was contacted, but no assistance was provided. The failure mileage was approximately 51,000.
NHTSA complaint 11715452My vehicle is equipped with an automatic engine stop/start feature that shuts off the engine when the vehicle is stopped, as well as an eTorque system intended to assist with initial acceleration. While stopped at an intersection with a slight downhill grade (foot fully depressing the brake pedal), the auto stop/start feature engaged and the engine shut off. When I released the brake to make a right turn, neither the engine nor the eTorque system reengaged. As a result, the vehicle rolled forward under its own momentum into oncoming traffic. I immediately reapplied the brake to stop the vehicle. At that point, the vehicle unexpectedly shifted itself into Park, even though the engine never restarted. I then pressed the ignition button to turn the vehicle off and back on in order to restart the engine. After restarting, I was able to shift into Drive and move into the traffic lane just in time to avoid a collision. A crash was avoided only because oncoming vehicles were able to change lanes to avoid striking my vehicle. At the time of the incident, the vehicle had more than one-third of a tank of fuel, fewer than 33,000 miles, and has been serviced exclusively at the dealership. This incident occurred at the intersection of Riverbend Road and Park Road in Charlotte, North Carolina.
NHTSA complaint 11713851As I was about to pull into my driveway my accelerator did not respond to braking I was going very slow about to make a left turn , less than 10mph Just As I started the left turn the wheel became unresponsive and the accelerator did not deccelerate At the same time my control panel seemed to glitch/flash I put both feet on the brake and stood on it as the truck continued forward until it struck the mailbox The truck stopped at that point but I could still hear the rear wheels turning on the road until I put it into park
