While operating the sunroof normally, I heard a very loud popping sound, similar to a gunshot. There was no impact, no object hitting the vehicle, and nothing obstructing the sunroof. Immediately after the sound, the sunroof became visibly deformed and damaged. The center section appeared to pop upward and the glass/panel no longer sat in its normal position. I had to close the sunroof right away. This failure happened during normal operation and without any outside cause. I am concerned that the sunroof assembly, glass, frame, or mechanism may have a manufacturing or structural defect. A sudden sunroof failure like this could create a safety risk if the glass breaks further or separates while driving. I am requesting that this issue be documented and investigated as a possible vehicle defect.
