I am reporting a severe powertrain safety hazard involving my 2022 Chevrolet Blazer at approximately 69,000 miles. The vehicle's 9-speed transmission is experiencing a critical internal hydraulic failure that causes unpredictable and violent lurching. Specifically, there is a severe delayed engagement when shifting into Reverse. The engine revs without moving until the hydraulic pressure suddenly spikes, causing the vehicle to violently slam backwards and catch the gear. Furthermore, the transmission exhibits harsh and slipping shifts while driving forward, specifically violently jerking during the 2nd-to-3rd gear upshift. These exact symptoms align with widely documented hydraulic control and valve body defects in the GM 9T50/9T65 transmissions, which are known to cause harsh shifts, delayed engagement, and flaring between gears. Concurrent with these transmission failures, the ABS warning light illuminated. An independent shop misdiagnosed the severe drivability issue as a standard ABS fault, while a local Chevrolet dealership denied Goodwill assistance despite this being a premature internal transmission failure. This creates a severe safety hazard. The unpredictable lurching in Reverse endangers pedestrians and other vehicles in parking lots. Additionally, the violent shifting at speed creates a high risk of sudden internal component failure and a complete loss of propulsion while driving in active traffic.
NHTSA complaint 11768179The contact owns a 2022 Chevrolet Blazer. The contact stated that after the dealer had performed a software update under TSB Number: N212355740, the computer blew up. The contact was informed of the failure, provided a loaner vehicle, and advised that the manufacturer was notified of the failure by phone. The dealer was awaiting a callback from the manufacturer before performing further repairs. The contact expressed concerns and dissatisfaction that the dealer had recently confirmed the vehicle was covered under the TSB, but the manufacturer had failed to send a notification of the TSB. The failure mileage was approximately 12,000.
NHTSA complaint 11765370"Steering Assist is Reduced, Drive With Care" showed up on the dashboard. The temperature gauge dropped to dead cold. Once the car was parked and cut off, the fan still kept running for 5 minutes. From my research it seems these are the signs of a thermostat being stuck open. It also seems this is a very common problem with this car, according to the internet. This vehicle has around 70K miles. There were no other issues prior to this failure.
NHTSA complaint 11761253While driving on the road at/or about 45 mph to my workplace, the transmission gave out and lost forward momentum. I had the transmission serviced for its second serivce at 84705 miles just ten days before this happened. The first service occurred around 47k miles when I learned about this issue with Chevrolet transmissions.
NHTSA complaint 11760296As I accelerated after the traffic light turned green the vehicle stalled. I was able to move the vehicle to the curb on XXX [XXX] is a two-way road. The vehicle stalled while on an active road which could have led to my vehicle being rear ended causing potential injuries to myself and other drivers. The engine turned over and there was fuel in the gas tank, however, the vehicle wouldn't start. A warning light showed: "low battery", but since the engine was trying to start, it seems unlikely that the battery was low. A second warning light showed: "battery saving" mode. These lights appeared once the vehicle was parked on the curb of the road. The vehicle was towed to David Chevrolet, a GM dealership on [XXX] about 2 miles away. NHTSA complaint 11758976My 2022 Chevrolet Blazer abruptly Shut down all power for about five seconds while I was stopped at a red light. The vehicle restarted after I pressed the push-button ignition, but the dashboard displayed a brake system error warning with no explanation of the cause or instructions for next steps. No other warning lights preceded the shutdown. The vehicle appeared to resume normal operation after restart, but the brake system warning remained. This appears consistent with complaints filed by other 2022 Blazer owners describing simultaneous electrical and brake system failures.
NHTSA complaint 11757049Intermittent electrical defects are beginning to occur that impact the power steering or power brakes. After starting the vehicle, there are times either the power steering or the power brakes do not function. When the braking defect occurs, the engine warning lamp is displayed and indicates brake system control module. Sudden switch to manual steering or manual braking are a safety hazard. A couple ignition recycles eventually corrects the electrical defect and restores the vehicle to normal operations. Vehicle has been dropped off at dealership for warranty repair.
NHTSA complaint 11755877My infotainment system has completely blacked out. I have no navigation, no rear view camera or warning signals. I have no phone and no SOS 🆘 emergency calls. I have no music no lane merging alerts. My charging station does not work in the front of the vehicle.
NHTSA complaint 11755679I have been smelling engine coolant for some time and found a leak on the drivers side top seam where the aluminum meets the plastic tank on the radiator. This is a known problem with 2019=2026 Chevy Blazers by GM and it still hasn't been resolved. After researching, I have found numerous Blazer owners that have this same issue and some are on 3rd and 4th radiator replacement. I am afraid to drive the vehicle due to the leak that could leave me and my family stranded on the side of the road. I am also concerned about a major leak or seam separation that could allow a large amount of coolant out that could get on the tires and cause loss of vehicle control as a result. Also, the leaking coolant is a hazard to any animals that are around as the coolant puddles under my vehicle after driving. At this point, the Blazer is running hotter and I had to add coolant. I just called to price a new radiator...$450 and install...$1,025...that isn't a cost I should have to take on with GM knowing about this issue for years.
NHTSA complaint 11750535The contact owns a 2022 Chevrolet Blazer. The contact stated that the coolant was leaking from the radiator. There were no warning lights illuminated. The vehicle was taken to the local dealer, where it was diagnosed and determined that the radiator needed to be replaced. The contact was informed that the dealer was replacing a lot of radiators for similar failures. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was contacted, and a case was opened. The failure mileage was approximately 49,500.
NHTSA complaint 11747341Car stalled and told me to put in neutral. Could smell gas. Car wouldn't come back on. Code u18a2 (lost communication with fuel pump communication module), part is available for inspection, we were all at risk due to the car stalling on the highway with no prior warnings, check engine light came on after car stalled, ordered new part from GMC, fix the issue right away. This part has been recalled on other models just not on 2022.
NHTSA complaint 11744381BROUGHT MY CAR TO CHEVROLET CENTER IN WINTER HAVEN FLORIDA BECAUSE I HAD 2 DIAGNOSTIC CODES SHOW UP WITH A CHECK ENGINE LIGHT, THE CODES WERE (U1345: Indicates a communication fault on the LIN (Local Interconnect Network) Bus, usually tied to modules like the active grille shutters, cooling fans, or charge air cooler (CAC) pump.U0632: Indicates lost communication specifically with Cooling Fan 1.) THE DEALERSHIP TOLD ME THEY DIDN'T FIND ANY CODES IN THE SYSTEM AND THEY TRIED TO CHARGE ME $165 FOR A DIAGNOSTIC FEE. RIGHT AFTER I LEFT THE DEALERSHIP I WAS HAVING THE SAME CODES POP UP, WITH THE CHECK ENGINE LIGHT AND MY CAR WAS OVERHEATING. CHEVROLETS ECM/PCM WARRANTY IS 8 YEARS OR 80,000 MILES.
NHTSA complaint 11744030Thermostat fails resulting in steering power reduced, temperature goes to C and fan runs overtime. This thermostat or temp sensor fails intermittently and fixes itself. Car could be overheating and you wouldn't know. This part is recalled on 2021 Blazers already.
NHTSA complaint 11739718I have a 2022 Blazer with a 3.6 engine. The thermostat has failed and dealer says only certain blazer vehicles are covered under aspecial warrnty exstesion. I know several people having the same problem.I have a check engine light, with a scan shows code P0128(thermostat0. I also have a display of power steering assist reduced and tempature gauge stays much lower than normal.. When you turn vehicle off the high speed cooling fans remain running ub=ntil battery is dead.
NHTSA complaint 11738512I have received this warning a few different times “Steering Assist is Reduced". Which causes my vehicle to not blow cold air when AC is on. Fans are louder than normal. And when I turn off my vehicle fans continue to run for roughly around 8 minutes.
NHTSA complaint 11737137My engine coolant temperature sensor failed. Replaced it and still not fixing the issue. This takes my steering assist away as they are all interlinked? I have seen on forms this is a common issue. This has the potential to blow up my engine, I’m not sure how this is not a recall with so many 2020-2026 blazer owners having the same issue.
NHTSA complaint 11732623My Drive Assist stopped working. Then my Air conditioning stopped blowing cold. Then the temperature gauge stopped working. Upon turning the car off the fan continued to run for several minutes. Took to repair shop where it required a new thermostat housing, coolant temp sensor and coolant flush. The total cost for repair was $1,131.52. The car has 37,000 miles on it. Barely out of warranty. This is a well-known issue among Chevy owners.
NHTSA complaint 11727288When shutting off the car, the fan continued to run. I started the car up again to see if this would allow the fan to turn off. No luck. The steering assist was dis-enabled on the dash. I took my car to the dealer to find out that it has a bad thermostat and that my radiator was leaking. The thermostat was covered but I had to use my extended warranty to pay the additional repair. My deductible for my extended warranty is $300.00. My daughter has a 2021 Chevy Blazer and the same situation happened. There was a recall and all her parts were covered.
NHTSA complaint 11719873Transmission completely failed while driving at highway speeds.
NHTSA complaint 11717464Driving the vehicle when all of a sudden the engine shut off. All electrical systems continued to function. Luckily this occurred at low speed in a parking lot but had it happened at high speed on the freeway it could have been a huge safety risk. The vehicle was towed to a nearby automotive shop that diagnosed it as a bad fuel pump controller. There is an open GM recall that includes the 2021 Chevy Blazer (and a suite of other GM vehicles), but not the 2022 Chevy Blazer. I am concerned that the GM recall does not fully cover all of the vehicles that could be impacted by this issue.
