The contact owns a 2024 Chevrolet Silverado 1500. The contact stated that while driving 10 MPH and pulling into a parking lot, the vehicle unexpectedly lost motive power. The message “Shift to Neutral and Press the Start Button” was displayed. The contact was concerned that the failure was a safety hazard and could pose a safety risk to the contact and others. The failure mileage was approximately 54,265.
NHTSA complaint 11767383Tried to start the Chevy Silverado 1500 remotely and it was unresponsive using the remote start key fob. The truck was then started with the push start button inside the truck. There was no instrument panel errors or warnings when the truck was first started and began driving it. Upon taking the truck out of park and starting to drive, the brake pedal was extremely hard to push, and the steering was extremely hard to turn. It took a long distance to stop the truck while moving very slowly in a parking lot. The truck was also very hard to steer as if all power steering assistance had failed. The truck was put in park. Immediately after the truck was shifted into park, the instrument panel reported ABS, powertrain and steering column lock errors. After being turned off for 20 minutes, it was restarted and the only error on the instrument panel was a check engine light. The brake pedal pressure returned to normal and the breaking started working. The steering was now easy to turn and working as well. It was drove slowly, a very short distance to the dealership where it has been for the last week and a half. They have diagnosed and replaced the ECM, ABS and master cylinder. They continue to receive braking system error codes.
NHTSA complaint 11766576My vehicle was serviced for the Chevy L87 recall a couple of thousand miles ago. It currently has 13343 miles on it and I was driving down the road and then all of a sudden the engine just stopped and my vehicle lost power leaving me stranded on a state route XXX in [XXX], which is a dangerous route with nowhere to pull off. This issue has been going on for years now and Chevy needs to make this right. INFORMATION REDACTED PURSUANT TO THE FREEDOM OF INFORMATION ACT (FOIA), 5 U.S.C. 552(B)(6)
NHTSA complaint 11766011While operating the vehicle, the front electric drive motor suffered a failure, triggering reduced propulsion warnings and rendering the primary electric powertrain inoperable. The vehicle was towed to an authorized GM dealership service center, where the defect was confirmed. To replace the failed front drive unit, technicians had to drop the front subframe cradle and completely dismantle the front suspension and steering assembly. During inspection of the disassembled components, severe mechanical galling and metal scoring were documented on the cast aluminum front steering knuckle mounting boss. Reinstalling suspension and steering hardware against structurally compromised, gouged aluminum presents a severe safety hazard of metal fatigue, stress fracture, or joint failure under dynamic loads. This vehicle is factory-rated to tow heavy loads. Dynamic cyclic forces transferred through a compromised front knuckle assembly—particularly when towing on a weight-distribution hitch—create an acute risk of structural failure and loss of directional control at highway speeds. The vehicle has remained grounded and out of service at the dealership for over 50 continuous days undergoing this high-voltage and chassis teardown.
NHTSA complaint 117649902024 Chevrolet Silverado 1500 LTZ, 3.0L Duramax. When the DEF system begins displaying the “miles until 65 MPH max speed” warning, the warning takes over the Driver Information Center and cannot be acknowledged or dismissed with the steering-wheel thumbwheel. This prevents me from accessing unrelated DIC information, including Trip 1/Trip 2 and other vehicle information, potentially for hundreds of miles. The truck recently received the latest available software update. I am requesting that GM document this as a software/usability defect and provide a case number. The DEF warning should remain available without preventing access to other DIC functions.
NHTSA complaint 11764753Got my truck back yesterday from in shop for 2 weeks from being repaired. Got to red light just stopped my engine shuts off. Dash shows engine/transmission problems. Exact same thing happened two weeks ago. Had to get towed into dealer again this am
NHTSA complaint 11763787OnStar Telemetry Control module suddenly failed. Systems such as automatic crash detection, directions, mapping and OnStar emergency connection and SOS all not working. Rests did not work and truck is at the dealership for repairs. Internet reports that this is a common issue with 24-25 models but GMC not proactively repairing or compensating owners for repair. They issued a service bulletin for some models but are resisting a recall to address safety issues. GM Service update N262547330.
NHTSA complaint 11763475The contact owns a 2024 Chevrolet Silverado 1500. The contact stated that the vehicle had been experiencing inaccurate DEF gauge readings since the purchase, and the failure mostly occurred while towing a camper or trailer. The contact stated that while driving 70 MPH on the highway and hauling a camper, the message that the DEF tank was empty and needed to be refilled was displayed, and the vehicle went into LIMP Mode and decelerated to 35 MPH. The driver continued driving and pulled over to a safe location. The vehicle was taken to a dealer, where it was determined that the DEF tank needed to be replaced; however, the manufacturer denied authorization because the required preliminary procedures had not been completed. The manufacturer General Motors LLC was notified of the failure by phone. The failure mileage was approximately 4.
NHTSA complaint 11763307The contact owns a 2024 Chevrolet Silverado 1500. The contact stated that while driving 40 MPH, the vehicle stalled, and the vehicle was unable to be restarted. The vehicle was towed to a dealer where it was diagnosed and determined that the fuel pump power control module needed to be replaced. The vehicle was repaired. The manufacturer was not notified of the failure. The failure mileage was 15,728.
NHTSA complaint 117626936.2L/L87 engine passed PICO test in August 2025 (24,190 miles). Switched to 0W-40. Engine lost propulsion in June 2026 (32,371 miles). Towed to dealer. Engine replaced in July 2026.
NHTSA complaint 11762594Original 6.2L engine was replaced subsequent to NHTSA Report 11724274 from Catatrophic engine failure on January 31, 2026 at 25,274 miles. Original engine was manufactured on May 30, 2024, but Silverado HC was manufactured on June 9, 2024, so it was not captured in existing NHTSA Campaign 25V‑274 and subsequent GM 6.2L Recall and is not currently included in expanded factory 10/150,000 powertrain warranty. Due to original catastrophic engine failure due to crank and connecting rod, covered transmission damage was discovered, truck is currently on third Torque Converter and Transmission has been out of truck for repairs to Valve Body and 4-10/reverse piston twice. Replacement 6.2L engine lasted 3,900 miles before exhibiting significant Lifter Tick Bank One/Driver Side, Tear down revealed failed lifter which wiped out a lobe on Cam. GM TAC refused engine replacement, instead replaced one Cam, 16 lifters and trays on Bank One. Drove truck for approximately 300 miles after repair and Engine began exhibiting significant knocking from bottom of engine, second replacement engine is now being installed. All routine maintenance and Warranty work has been performed and documented at GM certified Dealer Service Department.
NHTSA complaint 11762490from a stop during fast acceleration made a left turn and rear section or rear axle sounded like it went over a speed bump or wheels locked up, then transmission felt like it was in high gear, did not want to move , or very slowly , i accelerated rpm was 2k or 3k still moving very slowly, this was in heavy traffic. I notice that check engine light went on with TC, parking brake service , some pad lock ( dont know what the ped lock is). 2nd time this happen the parking light service light went on and the brakes locked up again in traffic. 0
NHTSA complaint 117624752024 Silverado 3.0 Rst turbo replacement, followed by engine replacement at 80K miles. Advised the dealership about the transmission at about 85k miles. At 103,000 miles the transmission failed. GM is denying any responbility. This is already a known issue yet GM keeps denying it. Major saftey issue from the beggining of the purchase. Every complaint has been noted by the dealership.
NHTSA complaint 11762420The engines lifters failed in cylinder 7 . In which the engine had to be replaced. It has had all of the proper services on time.
NHTSA complaint 11761648I applied brake and pedal went straight to floor without any stopping. I had to steer into a ditch to avoid a collision resulting in more damage to steering system, frame, windshield and body. This was complete brake system failure and yes is available for inspection. I was in a very rural area at time and was able to avoid a collision however, if I had been in city or on highway it could have easily resulted in injury or fatalities. The problem is currently under federal investigation and has been widely reported as a serious problem which may soon result in widespread recall. The vehicle has not been inspected yet by dealership or anywhere else as it just happened 18 hours ago. There were no warning lights or chimes before the incident when pedal went to the floor. After incident dashboard lit up with warning lights including, Brake, ABS, Traction control, power steering, Collision system, Engine light, Steering Column and others. Truck speed limited to 43 mph. And pedal still goes to the floor without applying brakes.
NHTSA complaint 11761308This vehicle is a 2024 Chevrolet Silverado 1500 featuring a 6.2L V8 engine and a 10 speed transmission, currently at 58,136 miles. The vehicle was experiencing a severe shudder. An official GM Technical Assistance Case (TAC) engineering case was opened on July 30, 2026 confirming a verified DFM cylinder deactivation or valve train malfunction. However, on August 21, 2026 the dealership falsified the repair log by printing ‘Concern Not Duplicated’ to the manufacturer, while physically installing an unapproved aftermarket Range Technology DFM Eliminator module into the vehicle’s engine harness to artificially override the factory emissions and cylinder deactivation programming to mask the mechanical failure. This vehicle is part of the active NHTSA Engineer Analysis EA26005, and the manufacturer’s dealer network is actively using unapproved third party hardware shortcuts to evade mandatory warranty repairs before the vehicle’s 60,000 mile factory powertrain limit expires. I called GM to report and request a warranty freeze and regional field engineer to go to a different dealership and was told they can’t freeze a warranty because the TAC was closed on August 28, 2026 as resolved even though it was not resolved.
NHTSA complaint 11761073July 2025. 2024 Chevrolet Silverado 1500 Vehicle mileage 18k 6.2L engine. Lack of Propulsion under normal, in-traffic, highway operation at highway speeds. Potential safety issue to myself or others, due to failure and lack of Propulsion. Issue was confirmed by dealer. Metal shavings in oil pan and oil filter. Bearing failure, recall item, however engine failure before recall engine could be replaced. Engine replaced quickly and without issue. Dealer was extremely professional, helpful, and a pleasure to deal with. UNKNOWN if vehicle was inspected by anyone other than dealer. UNKNOWN if any warning lights prior to failure. No messages or symptoms prior to failure.
NHTSA complaint 11760786Check engine light repeatedly comes on. Take it in, multiple Chevy dealerships “fix” the errors such as fuel line pump 5x, gear shift issues, modules that went bad and various other issues. I Routinely take care of vehicle (oil changes, tire rotations and service when needed) This truck will randomly shut off while driving (stop and go traffic ) I was told to turn off the start/stop which I do every time I get in the truck. However it recently wouldn’t turn over after going through a car wash, it would try and try till I manually stopped it. It’s running rough now and I pray everyday the check engine light doesn’t come on or that it doesn't just shut off mid drive. This truck has been hell on wheels and I bought it with 10 miles on it. Bought it from AutoNation in 12/2023.
NHTSA complaint 11760615Not that anything has happened to my truck but im genuinely worried that something bad will happen with my motor. With it being the 6.2L L87 motor. My truck was manufactured july 2024 which is 2 months after Gm's cut off. I love the truck but im worried about going to and from work, what if i was to turn and this truck dies and i go into oncoming traffic? What about everyone else driving their own vehicles? I hope something is done because im really thinking about getting rid of this truck in fear of something bad happening. Thank you.
NHTSA complaint 11760572In reference to 2024 Chevrolet pickup, 6.2L engine, 10 speed transmission. The vehicle is available for inspection upon request. I believe the transmission is going into "partial lock-up" at full/highway speed. When traveling on highway with cruise control engaged, the vehicle suddenly acts as though the brakes are being strongly applied, slowing the vehicle at a very rapid rate, down as low as about 40 MPH. The vehicle slows quickly enough that the driver and passengers are thrown forward to the extent allowed by the seat/safety belts. The issue terminates itself at various times. The vehicle has been inspected by GM mechanics several times, but they cannot find the problem. There were no warning lamps, messages, service engine lights, etc. This has occurred on at least five (5) different occasions. The first occasion was at approximately 7000 odometer miles. The vehicle now has 25,100 miles. All incidents have been reported to GM dealership mechanics.
NHTSA complaint 11760491Technical service bulletins and other notices the manufacturer sent to dealers. A bulletin is not a recall; the 60 most recent are listed.
