The vehicle was being driven from work to home on the interstate, when a loud ticking/knocking noise was heard while exiting the interstate. The motor lost power when trying to accelerate while pulling into our driveway. It was noticed that the "Service Transmission" light came on as well. It was towed to the Chevrolet dealership in Bardstown, KY where they did diagnostic testing and stated that the motor had "locked up" and will have to be replaced. The service person at the Chevrolet dealership stated that the transmission could have been affected also because the service transmission light was on as well. We are lucky the loss of power and the engine locking up did not occur on the interstate where multiple people could have been injured. The ticking/knocking and the complete engine locking up occurred within a 5 minute time span. The check engine light and service transmission lights did not come on until the vehicle coasted into our driveway. The vehicle had participated in the recall of putting a higher viscosity oil in by the Chevrolet dealership.
NHTSA complaint 11768257The engine has been replaced twice now due to recall. GM is not fixing this issue! The took my vehicle from me for two months. The owe us answers and a refund!
NHTSA complaint 11767588I own a 2022 yukon the motor was recalled and was replaced at approximately 30,000 miles. Gm had my vehicle for over a month in 2025. Now I have 36,000 miles on my yukon and my 2nd brand new engine has exploded and is currently being replace.
NHTSA complaint 11767360The contact owns a 2022 GMC Yukon XL. The contact stated while driving 70 MPH, the accelerator pedal was depressed, and the vehicle lost motive power. The contact's [XXX] was inside the vehicle during the failure. The dealer was contacted by phone. The contact was informed that the failure was not associated with any recall. The vehicle was towed to an independent mechanic where it was diagnosed with fuel pump power control module failure. The contact was informed that the fuel pump power control module needed to be replaced. The vehicle was repaired. The contact referenced NHTSA Campaign Number: 21V739000 (Fuel System, Gasoline); however, the VIN was not associated with the recall. The manufacturer was contacted, and a case was filed. The contact was advised to contact the NHTSA Hotline to report the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 59,800. NHTSA complaint 11765959The transmission went out on my 2022 GMC Yukon XL. The GMC dealership identified the part needing to be replaced is the Transmission Valve Body. This is the exact part that GM Internal Recall Number N252536750NHTSA Campaign Number: 26V-085 says has been recalled for year 2022 GMC Yukon XLs, and yet, my vehicle's VIN number is not on the recall list. How is it possible that my particular 2022 GMC Yukon XLs (VIN) doesn't qualify as one covered under the recall, when the exact problem that this recall was released for, and the exact part that this recall calls for a manufacturer's repair/replacement, occurred to my vehicle? My vehicle (VIN #: [XXX] needs to be added to the recall list, because this exact part failed on my vehicle. INFORMATION REDACTED PURSUANT TO THE FREEDOM OF INFORMATION ACT (FOIA), 5 U.S.C. 552(B)(6)
NHTSA complaint 11765075The contact owns a 2022 GMC Yukon XL. The contact stated that while the vehicle was at the local service center, the mechanic discovered that the oil level was extremely low and determined that the vehicle had experienced excessive oil consumption. The cause of the failure was not yet determined. The contact stated that the vehicle was previously repaired under NHTSA Campaign Number: 25V274000 (ENGINE AND ENGINE COOLING); the engine was inspected and a higher viscosity oil was added to the engine. The failure mileage was 60,100.
NHTSA complaint 11765043This email is a continuation of complaint # 11760621 that I filled on August 29th 2026. The vehicle was authorized by General Motors to have the engine replaced and the Service Department at the GMC Dealer informed that the replacement engine was installed and failed immediately upon it's initial test drive. I have absolutely no faith in GMC's solution to the engine issues or the safety of the vehicle in the future with myself or family in it.
NHTSA complaint 11763857I think it is a transmission type of failure. I'm not sure of the exact mechanical specifics. While putting the vehicle in reverse, driving and or accelerating it feels like the transmission is locking up and then releasing, and then locking up again. It felt very dangerous for that to happen while driving down the road. I took the vehicle to a local mechanic that was near by for assistance and he said I should take it to a dealership because there was a recall due to that issue on my type of vehicle that he knew about. So I call a dealership to make an appointment, tell them I think the issue is due to a safety recall due to the transmission locking up. They check my Vin# and say there are no recalls for my vehicle, even though it falls in the same year, make, and model of affected GM vehicles , therefore they could not make a recall appointment for me. Even though i was experiencing the same type of issues on the same type of vehicle thats included in the recall. I did not have any warning lights before, or while driving. The day it happened, I drove the vehicle to work, parked, was at my office all day. Came out to go home and put the SUV in reverse and it like lunged forward, almost hitting the car parked in front of me. I thought I must have had it in the wrong gear or something. So I put it in park and then tried again. Then it felt like it locked up, rocked forward, and then allowed me to back up. I put it in drive and again it was like it was locking up and releasing very forcefully but then smoothed out and drove normal for a few miles and then locked up again. There were never any warning lights or messages during this time. I called GM to inquire why my vehicle isnt in the safety recall and all they could tell me was that they did not know. I was very afraid I was going to be involved in an accident due to this issue.
NHTSA complaint 11763076Engine failed for 3rd time
NHTSA complaint 11762816Driving down [XXX] in [XXX] the engine seized and blew every major electrical fuse. The suv was in the center lane of [XXX] at rush hour unable to be put in neutral and rolled to safety. SUV was towed home then to dealership for confirmation. Engine and all wiring were replaced. INFORMATION REDACTED PURSUANT TO THE FREEDOM OF INFORMATION ACT (FOIA), 5 U.S.C. 552(B)(6)
NHTSA complaint 11761580Warning lights; ESC, traction control; collision warning etc, all come on. Taken to GMC dealership and tell me its "left rear wheel sensor". Cost $900. After supposed repairs, warning lights still do not go off. Now the dealership is saying its the ABS and the whole thing needs to be replaced. $2100
NHTSA complaint 11760703On XXX around noon in medium traffic I was traveling on the [XXX] southbound at about 65 miles per hour when the engine suddenly stopped with no warning. To make matters worse the dash instructed me to apply the brake to start?? Not at 65 mph! I was able to coast onto the offramp safely and call for a tow to the GMC dealer in [XXX]. They diagnosed the failure to the engine seizing. I was fortunate to pull off the freeway as being an experienced driver for more than 50 years although it would be anyone's opinion that a less experienced driver could have been injured or worse. My fear is that the replacement engine that GM will install again have the same problem at any time in the future with no warning and I or my family will not be as fortunate the next time. NHTSA complaint 11760621The engine failed at 69,000 at highway speeds. GM inspected it at 30,000 and said it wouldn’t happen.
NHTSA complaint 11760018I know an engineering analysis has been opened on the 6.2L motor for GM models. I just want on the record that my wife has a 2022 GMC Denali XL that had the engine replaced in December 2025. After that motor replacement it repeated the same issue July 4th 2026 and the dealership replaced the engine a second time for the same reason, and I will be attaching each invoice for both replacements. Just want to have the #'s updated to show the remedy doesn't seem to work or in my case it didn't and I have seen numerous news articles talking about this.
NHTSA complaint 11759912While driving in passing lane on interstate highway at approximately 65 mph engine lost power. Dashboard warning "vehicle in neutral" message appeared. "Press start" message appeared. Tried to start the engine but did not start. Slight downhill while on highway and had to make it to right shoulder since no shoulder on left side of highway. Glided across 2 lanes to right lane and luckily an exit came up while still gliding slightly downhill. Exited ramp and got off highway to an empty parking lot. Put vehicle in Park. Since engine failed, power steering was normal as was all electrical components. Once stopped, vehicle was not able to be shifted into Neutral. Message " unable to shift to Neutral under conditions " appeared. Vehicle had to be towed with rear wheels on dollies since it was stuck in Park. Was very lucky to get vehicle across lanes of traffic and off highway to a safe location. Had vehicle towed to nearest GMC dealership where it was diagnosed as internal engine failure covered under recall for this particular engine. (6.2 liter).
NHTSA complaint 11759865No warning the car made a loud clunk that shook the car. The engine began a severe knock with almost compete loss of power. The dealer confirmed the entire engine had to be replaced. I was told my car passed the PICO test recall and only required an oil viscosity change. There is something very wrong here. These engines are not right. I have handicapped twins and have zero confidence it won't leave my family stranded.
NHTSA complaint 11758654L87 Engine failed 6 months after replacement. Had to get 2nd full engine replacement. The car is currently on its 3rd engine. 1st replacement 10/16/25. Engine failed on 4/30/26. 2nd replacement 6/1/26.
NHTSA complaint 11758647I’m gettin solenoid 6 stuck codes
NHTSA complaint 11756872We took in our Yukon for the recall letters we’ve received in the mail and to check a suspension light the popped up. Our Yukon was given back to us with the ac not working properly anymore and it started to turn off on us out of nowhere. now we need an engine replacement. What’s more aggravating is that the Yukon was checked out the week of july27 -31 according to service advisor the engine was good and the only thing needing to be replaced was the module for the suspension light that popped up. Now it turns out that it doesn’t even need a module replacement and the suspension issue is something else. Super frustrating It’s our only family vehicle and it so upsetting that we were given the Yukon back in the condition it was in. Thank goodness the Yukon shut off at a drive thru and not a freeway or my husband would’ve got into an accident.
NHTSA complaint 11755582The engine in my 2022 GMC Yukon XL equipped with the 6.2L L87 V8 experienced a sudden loss of power while traveling at interstate speed. The vehicle had previously received the GM L87 engine recall remedy. Despite the recall being completed, the engine failed, leaving me and my family in a dangerous situation. The vehicle is currently at a GMC dealership and is available for inspection upon request. The sudden loss of engine power on a busy interstate created an immediate safety hazard. Traffic was traveling at highway speeds, and the vehicle rapidly lost the ability to maintain speed, increasing the risk of being struck from behind or being involved in a serious collision. My family was in the vehicle at the time, making the incident especially concerning. The GMC dealership has confirmed that the engine failure is related to the L87 engine issue and advised that the repairs will be covered under the applicable warranty/recall-related coverage. Additionally, after the original recall service was performed, an expanded recall was added to my VIN, further indicating that the original remedy may not have fully addressed the underlying defect. The vehicle is currently being inspected by the authorized GMC dealership. Prior to the engine failure, there were no warning signs indicating an imminent catastrophic failure. The recall service had already been completed, leading me to believe the vehicle was safe to operate. The engine nevertheless failed after the recall remedy, raising concerns that the corrective action may not be sufficient to prevent future failures
