While driving my Jeep 4xe, the vehicle suddenly loses motive power without warning. The vehicle emits a chime, the "D" gear indicator flashes on the shifter and instrument cluster, the check engine light illuminates, and a message displays instructing me to shift the vehicle into Park. At that point, the vehicle will no longer accelerate, forcing me to coast and maneuver across traffic lanes to reach a safe location. This failure has occurred multiple times, including at highway speeds, creating an immediate safety hazard and increasing the risk of a crash. During several incidents, I narrowly avoided being struck by surrounding vehicles due to the sudden and unexpected loss of propulsion. The vehicle is currently at the dealership, and the dealership has confirmed the condition. A sudden loss of motive power while driving is a serious safety defect that requires immediate corrective action.
NHTSA complaint 117669002022 Wrangler 4xe plug-in hybrid. The hybrid high-voltage system failed the first time it was used, in April 2026 at about 35,000 miles. I had not charged or used hybrid mode before that because of the manufacturer's high-voltage battery fire-risk recall guidance (recalls 23V-787, 24V-720, 25V-741) not to charge and to park away from structures. The check engine light came on at first use and has not stayed off except when cleared by the dealer. The vehicle was taken to an authorized Jeep dealer for the same hybrid high-voltage system concern on 4/19/2026, 6/17/2026 and 7/5/2026 without a fix. On 8/4/2026 the vehicle would not start at all and had to be towed. It stayed at the dealer 29 days (8/6 to 9/4/2026). The dealer replaced the main battery and found DTC P0E15-00 (electric coolant heater performance) with the high-voltage coolant heater in a 'locked permanent' unrecoverable state, and replaced the HV heater. The three earlier visits never identified this high-voltage thermal-management failure. Safety risk: a sudden no-start / loss of propulsion, and a failed cooling component in the high-voltage system of a vehicle population already under repeated battery thermal-runaway / fire recalls, where the manufacturer has acknowledged fires in vehicles that had received earlier remedies. The failures were confirmed and documented by the dealer on repair orders. The manufacturer (Stellantis) has been notified in writing and has declined to repurchase the vehicle. Repair orders are available on request.
NHTSA complaint 11766177The vehicle experiences a severe, violent, and sudden side-to-side shaking of the front suspension and steering wheel (commonly known as "death wobble"). This dangerous oscillation typically occurs at highway speeds (approx. 55–70 mph) immediately after the vehicle strikes a normal highway bump, expansion joint, or pothole. Note: As a 4xe plug-in hybrid model, the vehicle carries substantially more curb weight than a standard internal combustion engine Wrangler due to the heavy battery pack and electric drivetrain components. This increased mass significantly magnifies the physical forces and wear placed on the front suspension and steering linkage during impact. Despite having less than 30,000 original miles and no history of accidents, the vehicle exhibits rapid component failure. Front-end steering and suspension components—including the inner drag link and tie rod ends—were previously replaced and aligned on March 17, 2026. However, the exact same dangerous steering instability and component wear reoccurred by September 17, 2026, indicating a persistent, underlying design or durability defect that standard parts replacement fails to resolve. When this failure occurs, vehicle control is severely compromised, requiring the driver to abruptly decelerate in active traffic to regain control of the steering mechanism. This poses an extreme safety hazard to the occupant and surrounding motorists, creating a high risk of a collision or loss of vehicle control.
NHTSA complaint 11765832After the 68C software recall the vehicle no longer operates the same as prior update in electric mode! While driving in electric mode and on a flat to fairly flat road and with a 50% or less battery the gas engine suddenly starts!! Revs to 3000+rpms then drops to 1500, back up to 2500, back to 1500 then shuts off! The gas engine isn't needed at that time!! When this happens it sort of confuses the drive train and may experience a loss of power. This may happen one or two more times before the battery runs out and it switches to hybrid mode. Hybrid mode works normally! This abnormality only occurs in the electric mode! This is scary when it happens and it started right after the 68C recall. I talked to the Jeep dealership service department and they checked for fault codes and there were none. I asked if they would open a STAR report and they said they did Although it's next to impossible to duplicate it for them as there's no way to tell when it will happen and it doesn't last more than a minute or two. I don't know what to do about this and neither does the service department Calling Jeep Customer Support does nothing as there is no way to talk to the technical department. I'm at a loss other than to report it here. I have heard from other 4xe owners having the exact same issues after the 68C recall. Please help.
NHTSA complaint 11765675After recall 68C on this vehicle, my power output has noticeably altered. I did have a HV battery replaced due to failure as well. Yes, they have extended warranty for that HV battery, but also down scaled its original abilities so it is not the vehicle that we originally bought. It does not feel safe on the road, and is constantly under do not park in structures warnings from Stellantis.
NHTSA complaint 11765644Ever since the 68c recall I have had a multitude of safety related issues with my vehicle. It appears that in order to protect themselves from a known faulty hybrid battery pack Jeep has reprogramed the vehicle to reduce power. While driving in electric or hybrid mode the vehicle will suddenly lose power creating an unexpected power delivery (ie. one minute you have plenty of power to pass a slower vehicle for example then all of a sudden, you lose that power mid pass). Once power loss occurs the vehicle will start acting extremely erratic with the gas engine kicking on and off and revving high for no reason, constant gear changes etc. A substantial delay occurs between pushing the gas pedal and power delivery, dramatically increasing the vehicles response time to a necessary acceleration, etc. I have inquired to my local dealership about these issues multiple times but am always told by the service advisor that they are not aware of any problems which i know is not true as the online forums are filled with hundreds of stories of near crashes, etc and that Jeep has extended the battery warranty to "unlimited" acknowledging that there is an issue. The problem is that when these batteries fail (and mine has and has been replaced) they replace them with the same defective part.
NHTSA complaint 11765432My 4xe has experienced several recalls since it was purchased in 2022. The most recent recall, 68C was the latest attempt to mitigate the issue of thermal runaway with the High Voltage Battery, which could ultimately lead to a fire. While 68C may have been a partial success with the latter, I believe the software update has created other issues that have introduced potentially dangerous operating scenarios and will likely lead to premature failure of the 2.0L Turbo Gas Engine. The 68C recall software was applied to my 4xe on 12/26/2025 and since that date, the vehicle noticeably performs and behaves differently from the date of purchase on 5/31/2022. When in Electric Mode, the vehicle will inconsistently hesitate and is lacking in power, especially when exiting a full stop. When applying the accelerator to gain more power, the system will override the Electric Mode and will initiate the gas engine to compensate. This instantly loads the engine up to 4k+ RPMs and causes the vehicle to unexpectedly surge forward. The engine will also override the Electric Mode while the vehicle is in motion, again instantly loading the engine and creating a surge of power and additional unexpected forward motion. In addition, I am no longer able to traverse highways without assistance of the gas engine, due to the hinderance of electrical power available. While I do realize that this is a Hybrid/Electric vehicle and has certain safeguards and protocols, this vehicle no longer performs as it was initially delivered to me. Performance aside, I believe that the 68C recall software has created a driving situation that is inconsistent, potentially dangerous, and will be placing future financial burdens on anyone who owns a 4xe.
NHTSA complaint 11765378My 2022 Jeep Wrangler 4xe has an intermittent loss of acceleration when operating in Electric Mode. As the battery charge decreases, electric propulsion power can become significantly reduced. Pressing the accelerator sometimes produces inadequate acceleration until the gasoline engine engages. This creates a safety concern when entering traffic, crossing intersections, merging, or climbing hills because the vehicle may provide substantially less acceleration than expected. There is no warning message or warning light before or during the loss of acceleration. On a separate occasion, the vehicle displayed “Electric Mode Unavailable” with approximately 50% battery charge and switched to Hybrid Mode. Electric Mode became available again several minutes later. The vehicle has been inspected by two authorized Jeep dealers. No diagnostic codes were found, and the most recent dealer stated the vehicle was operating normally. The problem remains intermittent and has not been reproduced by the dealer. The vehicle and its components are available for inspection upon request. The vehicle previously operated normally in Electric Mode. My primary safety concern is the unpredictable loss of expected acceleration without warning, particularly when acceleration is necessary to safely enter or merge with traffic.
NHTSA complaint 1176531268C recall software update has caused some form of loss of power, doesn’t fully power off, it feels as if it is throttling the electric motor causing the engine to suddenly start and rev high (5-7k RPM) bypassing the warm up time that’s built into the software for the engine. Now on 09/14/2026 (Monday) the vehicle through a DTC code “P0BBE-00” High Voltage Battery Voltage Variation. It went into limp mode while attempting to drive up the roll back (flatbed tow truck). Currently awaiting Dealer diagnostic.
NHTSA complaint 11765151Post the 68c recall the acceleration profile of the vehicle is inconsistent and at times significantly delayed. To the point where when making left hand turns or merging into freeway traffic becomes dangerous. One specific instance while making a left I started to go but the accelerstion was extremely slow. Pressing the pedal nearly all the way down with traffic bearing down in me the enging finally kicked in at nearly full throttle. Causing a very chaotic turn. This is particularly noticeable while driving in electric mode, and usually shows up after driving for a little while. However I have had it happen very shortly after starting a drive. It does seem to be related to either battery or motor temperature, but it is very inconsistent. Typically when it does happen you try to accelerate and the normal response of acceleration doesn't occur. You keep pressing the pedal until it is nearly all the way to floor before the engine kicks in and suddenly is floored and you get more acceleration than you were trying to get. Not necessarily a safety issue, but further evidence that battery or electric power has been restricted. Since the 68c recall my fuel economy has reduced a out 8 mi/gal. I make the same road trips on a regular basis and the same trip prior to the 68c recall I got nearly 100mi more per tank of gas. It seems the battery charging and electric assist has been retarded from the original performance. Again this is more dramatic in all electric and causes precarious situations as described above. There are no warning lights or error messages, the dealer either can't reproduce the issue or calls it normal operation. I have over 90k miles on my vehicle and it is only the 10k or so since the 68c recall that I have noticed this issue. It is not performing "normally".
NHTSA complaint 11765145I believe this has to do with a Recall software update 68C that Jeep put out to resolve issues with the high voltage battery. This is a plug in hybrid Jeep Wrangler 4xe and since the software update the vehicle does not perform the way it did before and is a definite safety issue. When running in electric mode the vehicle sometimes does not respond as it should, like a hesitation, then the gas engine will suddenly start and accelerate much faster than was intended. You will be pressing on the pedal more and more then suddenly, zoom ! This is very dangerous when merging or pulling into traffic. The dealership will just tell you there are no fault codes and the vehicle is operating normally. There are no warning lamps or messages The only way to safely operate the vehicle now is gas engine mode (E-Save). There are certain conditions that bring this on but it can be random .
NHTSA complaint 117651342022 Jeep Wrangler 4xe always had good power on electric mode as well as hybrid mode (electric/gas). There were no issues merging with traffic on highway, freeway, climbing hills, staying with the flow of traffic in electric mode. Was able to stay in Electric mode 99% of the time. When and if Jeep called for more power, engine came on smoothly with engine idling low having time to warm up and then kicking up revs to create stable propulsion. However, on 12/30/2025 Jeep Dealership performed the 68C recall with updates to the Jeep. Now the jeep has no power in electric mode and is constantly going into gas mode with an ice-cold engine revving at high revs to create propulsion. I am no longer able to safely merge with traffic on highway, freeway, climbing hills, staying with the flow of traffic in electric mode. I am concerned for my safety as well as the engine being asked to kick on in high rpm's not up to appropriate operating temperatures.
NHTSA complaint 11765132As I was driving the vehicle this afternoon my entire jeep smelled like gas. I felt like I was breathing in fresh gas coming from my ac vents. I did vent my windows as I started to get a headache & I had to go home and get my husband’s vehicle before picking up my children because I could not expose them to such toxic fumes. Even though my vin shows zero unrepaired recalls, my hybrid jeep was part of the national recall of being of a fire risk and had all kinds of service lights on. When I took it to the dealer they told me if the battery didn’t fail, the jeep was fine. They cleared the codes and replaced the heater and I am not sure how that fixes the national recall? Prior to going to the dealer, there was no fix for this recall and the notice told me not to plug it in. But now the recall is cleared? Now I have gas fumes filling my jeep and there is no leak outside the vehicle. I have a witness to that. I FaceTimed my mom when I got home and we looked under the vehicle together. At this point, it says my vehicle is not safe to drive,
NHTSA complaint 11764842I am submitting this complaint regarding a critical electrical issue and potential safety hazard that occurred immediately after the 68C safety recall software update was performed. Since the 68C recall completion, my vehicle has experienced significant overnight High Voltage (HV) battery drain, losing approximately 10% of its state of charge while parked and powered off. I have returned the vehicle to the dealership three times for diagnostic testing. On the most recent visit, the dealership, working with Jeep engineers, claimed that the radio system fails to sleep, causing a continuous power draw from the battery. However, the dealership and Jeep engineer attributed this failure to a dash cam plugged into the factory 12V auxiliary power outlet (cigarette lighter socket). I believe this diagnosis is technically flawed and incorrect: The factory 12V outlet is off when the vehicle is powered down, meaning no current is drawn by the accessory once parked. The dash cam has been in continuous use since I purchased the vehicle without any issues; this battery drain issue began exclusively after the 68C software update. Blaming standard user accessories for the infotainment system's failure to enter sleep is unacceptable and ignores a likely software bug introduced by the 68C update. If the vehicle's electrical control modules fail to power down properly overnight, it poses unpredictable electrical and thermal risks. I escalated this issue to an FCA Case Manager, who upheld the engineer's assessment without addressing the underlying software defect. FCA has failed to perform due diligence in resolving this issue.
NHTSA complaint 11764662At highway speed, vehicle repeatedly started shaking and vibrating violently after hitting any bump or uneven portion of the roadway. Steering became extremely difficult to control and was completely useless for a period of time. A vehicle that loses the ability to steer at highway speeds puts everyone at risk of accident/death. In looking online, this has been experienced by many people and is referred to as the "death wobble". There were no warnings that this was going to occur. Vehicle has been brought to the dealership. It appears unlikely that the dealership and/or manufacturer is going to fix this problem without payment.
NHTSA complaint 11761921During a yearly safety inspection it was noted that 3 of my 4 shock absorbers are leaking and it would not pass PA safety inspection without replacement.
NHTSA complaint 11761595I took my 2022 Jeep Wrangler to my local Jeep dealership for a 21D Fire risk campaign recall inspection and powertrain software update. Car had to be towed to dealership a few days after services were completed, and was diagnosed at dealership, with an offline TCM, throwing a U0101 code. Car was in good working, driving order prior to the recall and software update and is now completely inoperable.
NHTSA complaint 11759015I am reporting repeated premature failures of the factory charge air cooler (turbo intercooler) hoses on my 2022 Jeep Wrangler EcoDiesel (3.0L V6). Within 73,000 miles, both the primary and secondary turbo charge hoses have hardened, cracked, and failed under standard boost pressure. Safety Risk: When these turbo charge hoses split, the engine experiences an immediate and complete loss of boost pressure (limp mode / Code P0299), severely restricting acceleration and vehicle speed. This sudden, unannounced loss of engine power occurs while driving at highway speeds, creating a severe rear-end collision hazard in heavy traffic. Failure History & Repair Documentation: First Hose Failure: Replaced by an authorized Jeep dealership at under 60,000 miles (November 2025). Second Hose Failure: Replaced by an authorized Jeep dealership at 73,000 miles (August 2026). Stellantis/Jeep treats these recurring structural hose splits as non-warranty "wear and tear," forcing out-of-pocket repairs despite the severe highway safety hazard caused by sudden power loss. I am requesting NHTSA open a safety defect investigation into the material failure rate of 3.0L EcoDiesel charge air hoses.
NHTSA complaint 11758720The engine/dash wiring harness connector XY230A suffered severe thermal degradation, resulting in a melted pin and causing a complete loss of communication with the Transmission Control Module (TCM, Code U0101-00) and continuous dashboard warning lights (Service Connection Error). This vehicle has a chronic history of unresolved electrical failures, having been brought to Stellantis Puerto Rico dealerships three times for the exact same issue, most recently in June 2026. This condition is directly related to the thermal and fire hazard characteristics described under Safety Recall Campaign 26V363 (Mopar Recall 21D) for 2022 Wranglers. However, the Stellantis regional warranty manager formally denied recall and powertrain warranty coverage based on routine oil change loyalty metrics and second-owner status. The dealership forced an upfront payment of $2,311.38 under a partial diagnosis to replace the harness. The vehicle was rendered inoperable and held for 30 days and actually held in service. in addition, they don't bring loaner. The manufacturer's regional warranty manager from Stellantis initially confirmed that I would incur zero costs for this repair but later retracted the decision formally denying recall and powertrain warranty coverage due the reason mentioned above. Regional management flatly denies any relationship between this melted harness failure, the active safety recall or the vehicle's electrical repair history I formally demand a full reimbursement of all repairs and rental expenses, and that my powertrain warranty and safety recall rights be fully honored as originally promised
NHTSA complaint 11758275When driving the vehicle down the highway it just randomly hard shifted out of know where almost causing us to be rear-ended. The dash then said service transmission continue in drive do not shift or turn engine off until you reach a desired location. You may not be able to shift again until services. It then limited power to the vehicle. It was show codes U1003, U0101, and U0402 multiple times. The vehicle was taking to a dealer where it was "parked" only it wouldn't go into park. We had to put the e-brake up holding it in place at the dealer so it wouldn't roll. Then when attempting to shut the vehicle off it only stopped the engine from running. It stayed in ACC mode all night until the dealer could mess with it the next day. The dealer is now saying it's just a dead battery. This is unsafe and could have ended very badly just for a dead battery that showed no signs of issues before hand. For a vehicle that on has approximately 57k miles and is 4 years old this is horrible.
NHTSA complaint 11758081Technical service bulletins and other notices the manufacturer sent to dealers. A bulletin is not a recall; the 60 most recent are listed.
