This has happened multiple times, confirmed by the dealer that it is a know issue with no fix. While driving down the road, the digital dashboard goes completely blank. No speedometer, no fuel guage, nothing. Very dangerous when driving to not know the speed that you are travelling. Also, all audio cuts out - no blinker signal sounds, no radio, etc. Less concerning is the infotainment system going completely black and silent as well - radio, maps, climate control. There have been multiple recalls performed but the dealer but none of them has fixed the issue. This must be a MJAOR safety concern when the dash does completely blank while traveling 65mph down the highway.
NHTSA complaint 11767375On [XXX], at 82,371 miles, my daughter's 2022 Volvo XC60 T8 Recharge was diagnosed with DTC BECM-P0BBD92 (Hybrid/High Voltage Battery Pack Voltage Variation) and a confirmed Cell Module F failure (Repair Order #[XXX], Bob Penkhus Motor Co Volvo Cars, Colorado Springs, CO). The dealer instructed her not to charge the vehicle pending repair. The replacement part (Cell Module F, Part #36003341) has been on indefinite backorder since diagnosis — initially quoted at 6 weeks, still unavailable as of this report. This vehicle falls within NHTSA Recall 25V-179 (LG high-voltage battery modules, fire risk when fully charged and parked). NHTSA's VIN lookup shows this VIN as having no unrepaired recalls, which I believe reflects only a prior software-monitoring update rather than a physical hardware fix — this diagnosed cell failure occurred after that update, is consistent with the exact failure mode described in the recall, and cannot currently be repaired because the remedy part is unavailable. Volvo Cars USA opened and then closed a corporate case (#[XXX], closed June 19, 2026) declining further assistance, stating its only obligation is to repair the vehicle — which it cannot presently do. It has been 138 days with no resolution on this matter. My name is [XXX] (father) and I can provide notarized authorization to act on my daughter's behalf on this matter. Thank you very much for your kind assistance. INFORMATION REDACTED PURSUANT TO THE FREEDOM OF INFORMATION ACT (FOIA), 5 U.S.C. 552(B)(6)
NHTSA complaint 11762590Component Failure & Inspection Availability: Infotainment Head Unit (IHU) / Audio Module (AUD) running Android Automotive OS. The vehicle and its components are available for inspection upon request. Safety Risk: The audio system completely crashes approximately every 3 drive cycles. This failure disables all safety-critical audio features, including turn signal clicks, backup camera and parking sensor chimes, blind-spot/cross-traffic warning alerts, and emergency system tones. Operating the vehicle without audible turn signals or proximity chimes creates significant driver distraction and an immediate hazard to traffic safety. Dealer / Service Confirmation: The issue occurs intermittently during daily operation and is being reported to Volvo dealer service Prior Inspection: The vehicle has been inspected by Volvo service department Symptoms & Onset: The problem began following a recent Android Automotive OS software update. No warning lamps, error messages, or indicators appear prior to the failure. The entire audio bus shuts off either at vehicle start or mid-drive. The only temporary workaround is forcing an infotainment reboot by holding the center display home button for 20–30 seconds, but the complete audio failure recurs every few drive cycles.
NHTSA complaint 11762138All audio including all warnings intermittently shuts off. No warning when it fails.
NHTSA complaint 11761105The vehicle goes silent, no audio system, no driving alerts— turn signals, alerts etc. Only is fixed by a hard reset to the sound system happens multiple times a week sometimes multiple times a day. According to technicians, this is a known issue with no fix.
NHTSA complaint 11757274Turn signal audio not present (lights working. No audio from radio, phone , collision warnings rear cross traffic warnings, door ajar audio warnings. Resetting the display fixes the problem. However, the issue returns the next day.
NHTSA complaint 11756075The contact owned a 2020 Volvo XC60 II. The contact stated while reversing, the rear view camera displayed a black screen. The contact stated that the accelerator pedal was depressed, however the vehicle failed to accelerate as intended. The vehicle's speed independently accelerated. The contact's vehicle crashed into a parked vehicle. The contact stated that there were two additional occupants in the vehicle. The contact sustained pain in the right knee, no medical treatment was provided. The passenger, who was seated in the rear seat, sustained neck and upper back injuries. The passenger received medical treatment at the local medical center. The vehicle was driven to the residence. The failure was intermittent. The contact stated that the vehicle was previously taken to the dealer, however the failure was not duplicated. The contact later received a recall notification, NHTSA Campaign Number: 25V908000 (Back Over Prevention). The manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. The failure mileage was 40,000
NHTSA complaint 11750906After a software update to the infotainment system (Android Automotive OS version 5.1.17, installed on 06/03/2026), my 2022 Volvo XC60 B5 intermittently loses all audio output. When the failure occurs, the vehicle produces no sound of any kind: no audible rear parking/proximity sensor warning while in reverse, no turn-signal indicator tones, and no media audio. The rear-view camera image still displays normally, so the loss of the audible backup warning is not obvious to the driver — the parking-assist system appears functional while its audible warnings are in fact disabled. On multiple occasions the failure was already present as I backed out of my garage and began driving, leaving me with no audible obstacle warning while reversing and no turn-signal tones while maneuvering. The display, navigation, and camera continue to function while audio is dead, which indicates the audio service stops responding rather than a hardware fault. The only way to restore audio is to fully restart (reboot) the infotainment head unit; the failure then recurs intermittently. The fault began immediately after the 5.1.17 update and was sporadic at first. After noticing a pattern, I documented occurrences on 06/15/2026, 06/17/2026, and 06/20/2026 with timestamped photographs, which are available on request. No crash or injury has occurred, but the loss of audible backup-warning tones while reversing is a safety hazard, particularly for pedestrians or obstacles behind the vehicle. I am not aware of a current recall covering this issue and am requesting investigation.
NHTSA complaint 11746024Re: Demand for repurchase or replacement under warranty — VIN [XXX] Vehicle: 2022 Volvo XC60 (pre‑certified) Purchase date: 08/19/2024 Dealer: [Dealer name, [XXX] ] Dear Volvo Cars USA Customer Care: I am the owner of the above-referenced vehicle. Since the date of purchase (08/19/2024) the vehicle’s infotainment system has repeatedly failed: it shuts down and reboots frequently (as often as 10 times within one hour of normal driving). Each shutdown disables navigation, HVAC controls and Bluetooth, and on reboot I must reset settings. This defect creates a significant safety hazard while driving, especially in unfamiliar areas. Since purchase I have returned the vehicle to the dealer for diagnosis and repair on multiple occasions. The vehicle has received software updates approximately 3–4 times, most recently on05//05/2026. The problem persists. I have retained copies of all repair orders and service records documenting these visits. (Copies attached.) This recurring failure remains unresolved despite multiple repair attempts and continues to present a SERIOUS safety risk. NHTSA complaint 117374012022 Volvo XC60 T8 Recharge VIN: [XXX] Mileage at time of complaint: ~38,400 Purchased: November 2023 (Certified Preowned) DESCRIPTION OF PROBLEM: The vehicle's infotainment system and backup camera have experienced repeated failures since the time of purchase. The backup camera intermittently fails to display an image when the vehicle is placed in reverse, leaving the driver without rear visibility. The infotainment system freezes, goes black, or becomes unresponsive without warning. These failures affect the federally mandated rearview camera display required under FMVSS 111. The vehicle has been brought to authorized Volvo retailers (Jim Fisher Volvo, Portland, OR and Germain Volvo North Hills, Wexford, PA) more than eight times for in-person service for this concern. The same issues have also been troubleshot remotely by phone or text on approximately ten additional occasions. Software updates, system resets, and other attempted repairs have not permanently resolved the problem. On one occasion, the backup camera failed to display while reversing, which contributed to minor rear bumper damage. The driver was relying on the camera display as designed and federally required, and the system did not perform. I am aware that NHTSA Recall 25V282 (Volvo R10320) was issued in April 2025 for this defect across 413,000+ vehicles including the 2022 XC60. Despite the recall, the underlying infotainment and camera reliability issues in my vehicle have not been resolved. A second recall (25V392) was issued after the initial software fix caused braking concerns in some vehicles. No injuries have occurred. No crashes have occurred beyond the minor bumper contact described above. Volvo Customer Care Case #XXX was opened and a goodwill assistance request was denied. NHTSA complaint 11733331Reporting a manufacturing defect in a 2022 Volvo XC60. The vehicle developed a metallic ticking noise in the timing area, audible at idle. Symptoms strictly match Volvo Technical Journal 36551.9.1 (NHTSA ID: MC-11015995-0001) regarding faulty camshaft seals. The noise disappeared when the oil filler cap was loosened, exactly as described in the TJ. An authorized Volvo dealer confirmed the defect and replaced the camshaft seals per Volvo’s protocol (Work Act No. ЗН-0131107). This repair completely resolved the issue, proving it was a manufacturing fault. The manufacturer refused warranty coverage citing 'salvage title' status, without proving any causal link between the title and this specific engine defect. Failure of timing components poses a significant safety risk, including sudden engine stall or oil leaks during operation. The owner was forced to pay out-of-pocket for the repair of a recognized factory defect. Supporting documents and video evidence are available upon request.
NHTSA complaint 11729583Sunroof cracking, shattering
NHTSA complaint 11726341At the end of a downhill cloverleaf coming coming on and off a highway, the car slowed to a crawl but would not stop. It was going slowly as if "creeping" like when in B mode but was not in B mode. The brakes would not stop it. I was able to shift gears from Drive to N to P but no response, car continued to creep forward until it gently bumped into the back of an 18 wheeler. There was no collision alarm at the time. I turned the car on and off, and powering down seemed to re set the issue, but the collision alarm went off like 10 minutes later when there was nothing to set it off (seemed like it was just delayed). No error code came up, nothing. I submitted my claim to Volvo, esp since there are similar recalls so I thought it was a known thing, but apparently not reported on my exact make and model (there were not very many made). I did not know there was damage to my vehicle, and the truck driver and myself did not even get out, he didn't feel me, and I assumed the bumper just bumped him so no police report. This was an intermittant failure and after I re booted the vehicle I slowly drove home after brakes seemed to be working after power on/off. I did not know that it was my HOOD that bumped the truck. I did not know there was damage until I got home. If this car's make and model were NOT included in the recall, they should be. TERRIFYING. And volvo did not acknowledge or reassure. requested documentation on what they inspected, and did not receive.
NHTSA complaint 11726185I received the the recall for the rear backup camera system not working now the whole cars safety system doesn't work. The infotainment screen keeps crashing and showing a dead android on it thus killing the Turn signal noise, climate controls, safety systems blind spot monitoring, adaptive cruise control randomly turns off, rear backup cameras still don't work. Overall this could lead to an accident as the whole cars safety system is not working and it makes me wonder if this could trigger the car to fail while driving if the operating system is malfunction or bad. I have tried to fix the issue with a factory reset but nothing seems to be working.
NHTSA complaint 11723700The contact owns a 2022 Volvo XC60. The contact stated that while driving approximately 45 MPH during nighttime, the Forward Collision Avoidance system engaged while there were no vehicles or objects in front of the vehicle. The contact stated that the failure caused pain in her rib cage when the brake was suddenly applied. Medical attention was not sought. No warning lights were illuminated; however, the message "Front Collision Aversion Engaged" was displayed on the instrument panel. The vehicle was taken back to the residence, and the dealer was contacted; however, the vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. The manufacturer was not notified of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 53,000.
NHTSA complaint 11714457The contact owns a 2022 Volvo XC60. The contact stated that while operating the vehicle, the instrument cluster display screen independently reset and then displayed a blank screen. During the failure, the driver was unable to view the speedometer and the fuel gauge. There was no audible sound while activating the turn signal, and the doors failed to immediately lock and unlock while attempting to use the door switch. The vehicle was taken to the local dealer, but no cause for the failure was found. The contact stated that the failures recurred intermittently. The manufacturer was notified of the failure, but no assistance was provided. The failure mileage was 30,000.
NHTSA complaint 11714255Even after the Volvo R10320 - WAM Upgrade recall, the backup camera is STILL unavailable at times when reversing. The recall and software update did not fix the issue. I would start the car and begin to reverse and met with "Camera is temporarily unavailable". I do not know what else do to as Volvo is slow to respond or provide anytime of upgrade or timely fix. This has happened multiple times and almost five times a week.
NHTSA complaint 11708704My backup camera operates intermittently, even after a recall was performed updating some software.
NHTSA complaint 11699894My car has been updated with software for a recall concerning the back up camera not operating when placed in reverse. This was an intermittent issue. The software has not fixed the problem as it continues to occur.
NHTSA complaint 11699891I purchased my 2022 Volvo XC60 in April 2025. I had no problems with the backup camera, until I installed a new version of software, 3.7, over the air, in September. The update was described as addressing a recall, for a safety issue where the backup camera would sometimes not work. Since the recall update, I've had issues with the backup camera not working, at the same time all of the cameras, proximity warnings, and rear emergency braking do not work. Far from this software update fixing a safety concern, it appears to have created one. The only answer I could get from the Volvo USA help line was to "take it to a dealer". I thought they would be more concerned given that they have just carried out a recall action that has created a safety issue!
NHTSA complaint 11695573Technical service bulletins and other notices the manufacturer sent to dealers. A bulletin is not a recall; the 60 most recent are listed.
